Spectacular Weekend Retreat

Guest: Jake T.
Date of Stay: 05/18/12 Review Submitted: 05/24/12

Brazos Bluffs Ranch is a wonderful vacation home in a beautiful setting. The home exceeded our expectations in every way, and we highly recommend it. The horseback ride was tons of fun and very peaceful, the setting very private, and the proximity to the Cafe Homestead was super convenient. If you don't have a meal there you're missing out. Best breakfast I've had in years.

Excellent Weekend Giveaway

Guest: Justin C.
Date of Stay: 04/06/12 Review Submitted: 04/09/12

We chose this place for a weekend getaway and we were not disappointed. The home is extremely well constructed and peaceful. The setting is amazing and the family that runs the house is rather pleasant. A few things to consider before going if you are from the “city”. The Homestead colony literally pride themselves on a more wholesome, Agrarian and technology less society. If you grew up around the Amish it’s nearly like that with the people driving cars and using cell phones. The cabin does not have TV….so bring a laptop, ipad or cell phone and ensure you can tether the device to the cell phone if you miss TV and the internet that much. The pond across the way is fully stocked with small to medium size bass and come real monster blue gill hybrids. That said, you cannot fish in the pond so if you want to fish there is always the river. The horseback rides are enjoyable and the horses quite agreeable. They have a lot of nifty things they make at the adjoining ranch/shops. Albeit somewhat overpriced the products are very worth seeing and the workshops are something worth looking into. The setting in general is simply peaceful and beautiful. Definitely take the time to go up to the bluffs and watch a sunset. If one part of this ranch is truly unique it would be the setting for watching a sunset on the bluffs. Bring bug spray if you plan on a journey through the brush. Also, keep in mind its very far off the road in a country setting. Hence, snakes definitely lurk in the weeds although these are principally not rattle snakes. All in all a magnificent trip which I will consider for future weekend getaways.

Owner response:In the last year over 400 guests have enjoyed the pastoral setting of our vacation house less than 100 feet from our pond. We hope all of our future guests will be able to enjoy seeing the fish that we feed in the pond, so we include in our contract, that guests must sign before coming, that there is no fishing in the pond. We provide for all of our guests (at no additional cost) canoes and kayaks that can be used for fishing in the Brazos River. Guests can also fish from the bank of the river, which is a scenic, short walk (350 yards) from our vacation house, with access via a private road. Most guests who fish in the river catch large-mouth bass, blue-gill, catfish and others.

Beautiful Cabin

We stayed here with our kids (5 and 3) and another couple for a weekend...and had a great time! The cabin is beautiful and immaculately clean - the loft was great for the boys. Having the river and the horses nearby was nice and the Homestead village made for an interesting afternoon/great lunch. The owner is friendly and available and responsive...all in all, a great hassle-free get-away.

One night stay with five small children

Guest: Grieg R.
Date of Stay: 01/15/12 Review Submitted: 01/19/12

We stayed at the cabin on a Sunday night in preperation for my wife to attend a knitting class at Homestead Heritage on Monday. The cabin worked out great for us and our five children. The cabin was exactly as described and was in immaculate condition. I sincerely appreciated all of the details related to the rail heights and spacing so that I knew what to expect regarding any safety issues with the kids. Everyone that we met on our stay including those at Cafe were very nice, outgoing, and welcoming.

A wonderful, spotless home in a fantastic location

Guest: Warren Q.
Date of Stay: 12/23/11 Review Submitted: 01/13/12

The online description of this home didn't quite do it justice; it was even better than we had hoped for. Our family gathered to spend Christmas and we couldn't have scripted a better venue to do that. Even though the weather was cool and drizzly through that weekend, we still spent time near the river and the bluffs. When we got back inside, the fire kept us warm. The lack of Internet and TV let us spend time enjoying games and telling stories. We also enjoyed the shops in the Homestead Heritage village and brought home several purchases that will remind us of our time there. We ate one breakfast at the Cafe Homestead and it was excellent. We plan to return!

Amazing!!

Guest: Amber R.
Date of Stay: 12/03/11 Review Submitted: 12/13/11

My husband and I stayed at the ranch for two days while filming for a hunting TV show. This place is gorgeous! A lot of the wood that makes up the guest house was taken from the property. It's as handcrated as cabins go, and the work that was put into this place is amazing. It's your own slice of paradise nestled into the woods! There is a lake out front for fishing, trails, horseback riding and you can even hunt some monster bucks on this private property! We plan on returning in the spring with our three children and take advantage of the family fun atmosphere!
