Bennington Trail Retreat
This bright and sunny 3 bedroom brook-side country cottage on 13 acres in the Monadnock region sleeps 6-8 comfortably. The house is simply but comfortably furnished with everything you need while away from home. In winter, hike, x-country ski, or snowmobile from the front door. In summer, listen to the babbling brook from the large screened-in wrap-around porch, private deck, or spacious yard, or swim in beautiful Lake Whittemore a short walk away. The house is located at the beginning of the Bennington Trail, giving access to many beautiful hiking trails, several that take you to the summit of Crotched Mountain.
The house is ideally located within 5 miles of skiing or golfing at Crotched Mountain and kayaking or fishing on the Contoocook River, Powdermill Pond, or Otter Lake in Greenfield State Park. Peterborough and its many recreational and cultural attractions is only 20 minutes away, while Mount Monadnock and the city of Keene are both a short 45 minute drive.
The house is equipped with two kayaks, lawn games like croquet, beach toys and chairs, sleds, cross country skis, and games for your use.

This House was very quaint. Nestled in a lovely area ( next to a brook) in the town of Bennington, NH. The rooms are much smaller than anticipated and we had a total of 6 of us, the stairs going to the second floor were very steep. Kitchen had limited cooking ppots/pans ( we are a cooking kind of family so we struggled). As it was winter, we went to skii to Crochet, Pats Peek, Rugged Mountain all within 60 minutes of driving. Only true drawback was that the place to park is in a huge incline and our 4 wheel drive almost went into the brook (its only a year old, so we asked for help).Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, adventure seekers.

We had a great time, 2 couples in our mid-50's (or later), beautiful place to stay, out in the woods and away from it all. Close to the road and close to a really lovely little town, with neighboring houses (but it still felt very private there) and lots and lots of trees, a babbling brook and falling leaves. The road system in NH is quite a bit different from ours out in the Southwest US, seems like we never took the same road twice when we headed out on a drive! The cottage had all the comforts of home, nice kitchen with everything we needed, dining room table, living room with plenty of seating for the 4 of us. We spent a lot of time on the screened porch, just breathing the wonderful clean air and enjoying the bird calls and falling leaves. Hiked a ways up Bennington Trail and enjoyed that. Stairs up to the 2nd floor are steep, beds were a little hard for us but we managed ok. The heater worked fine, and the hot and cold water are indeed HOT and COLD, respectively, LOL! Lots of spices and herbs in the cupboard, so it was nice that we didn't have to buy things like chili powder or cumin for a meal (or coffee filters, thank you!), as it was already supplied along with salt and pepper and a variety of others. Ericka supplied a lot of information about the area, including stores and gas stations and shops and eateries, and it was all very much appreciated. The setting and house worked perfectly for our trip, and we really appreciated coming "home" at night to a restful and peaceful setting. Thank you, Ericka!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Property is located in a quiet setting next to a brook. There is a large screened in porch which was very nice and helpful since the house is in a wooded area. There is a nice road to walk which goes over to a ski area however the time that we were there the deer flies were too plentiful to make the trek. There is a small lake about .5 mile away which has lifeguards and a gradual slope going into the water. It is a great spot for young & older kids for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. The property is well maintained, clean, and has the amenities of home. The property owners are pleasant and open to any concerns you may have. One drawback is one bathroom and 3 bedrooms. All in all very pleased with it and would stay again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My wife and I had a very relaxing two weeks in this cottage, surrounded by forest and next to a babbling brook. Great, helpful owners and the few neighbours in the area were very pleasant and quiet. Cheeky chipmunks and birds were everywhere. We even managed to see a big, but shy black bear! Great location for either winter or summer holidays. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities.

We spend a wonderful and relaxing weekend at this property. The kids discovered endless ways to enjoy the nature. All the amenities one may need were available on site. There is a brook behind the house which makes it extra special.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.

A beautiful, secluded yet accessible location. We hiked, we swam, we visited Peterborough as well as a fantastic ice cream shop, and returned happily to this lovely, simple farmhouse with modern amenities. The house is clean and newly renovated, close to a clean lake with a sandy bottom, ropes and a lifeguard. The hiking trails are right outside the door! Located on a dead-end dirt road with no traffic, there is plenty of safe space for the kids to run around. It is a serene spot, perfect for recharging your emotional batteries. We're already looking into when we can return this spring and summer!Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
