This quaint Haiku cottage was perfect for our short 3-night stay and fit nicely into our budget. The unit would be perfect for a couple or couple with a small child or two; our party of 3 adults was cozy but it would have gotten a little crowded if we stayed longer. You should note that the unit is at the back of Hunter's property, adjacent to his garage and back yard -- which you cannot tell by the pictures. Although this was unexpected, Hunter was very nice and helpful, and the family was quiet; there was a beautiful view off of the deck in the back. The unit was clean and well-stocked for our stay; we appreciated the cooler and chair available for our trips to the beach. The cottage definitely gave you the impression you were on an exotic island in the rainforest, which added to the charm. There is a small kitchen to make meals with a grocery store nearby. It is conveniently located 5 minutes from the road to Hana which we would certainly recommend doing if you're in the area. Colleen's restaurant was a 2min walk and which we enjoyed; they served fresh, healthy dishes and homemade baked goods. The breakfast and coffee were awesome. Paia is also nearby which has a lot of fun shops, restaurants and Mana, a reasonably-priced health food store where we did our food shopping. We highly recommend Flatbread pizza or Paia Fish Market if you're hungry in Paia.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This little guest cottage was perfect for my boyfriend's and my week-long stay in Maui. The bed was comfortable, the linens were clean, and there was plenty of room in the cozy cottage for us to spread out a bit. The kitchen was so convenient for preparing the food we bought at the nearby grocery store. The cottage is so close to "downtown" Haiku, we walked to dinner every night, visiting all the different restaurants in town. I highly recommend North Shore Cafe for breakfast, and their sushi bar in the evening is great too! Hunter and Martha were so friendly and down to earth; they really made us feel welcome! Mahalo for the wonderful accommodations!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The cottage is in an ideal location at the beginning of the road to Hana and minutes from the airport. Great beaches are minutes away, but we really enjoyed the cooler air and lush scenery of the upcountry and rainforest. There were many tourists taking advantage of activities around Haiku, but you'll be far away from the resort crowds and traffic. Restaurants, groceries and other amenities are literally a block's walk away. The cottage has a comfortable bed, private lanai w/grill and everything else you'll need. The owners were awesome, answered questions and brought us bananas growing in their yard! For the price and location, you won't be disappointed. We would definitely return......Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at the Haiku Cabin. The house is cozy, clean and well appointed. Having a full kitchen was so nice! We had breakfast on the private deck every morning. We loved being in the upcountry, far from the condo-y, tourist-y zones, but still close to plenty of great beaches and the road to Hana. We would definitely stay at the Haiku Cabin again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

I was there for just 1 day, so maybe the place wasnt cleaned thouroughly for me, But for the day I was there, there were Ants everywhere (Kitchen, couch, bathroom, floor). They even got into my clothes. The cottage and the utensils were not clean. Other than that the property was very nice and was just a few minutes from Paia and Hapioka. I would recommend this property, but would ask you to ensure that you mention the owner that you expect a clean place. Also, the bed was really awesome and I slept very well (There were no Ants on the bed or in bedroom).Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am really sorry that this couple found a few things wrong with my cottage. Our cottage is very well cleaned every time someone leaves. I completely understanding having my cottage 100% cleaned for our next visitors. People spend a lot of money to come to this beautiful island and we respect them greatly for that and what we do in return is try to give them the best and CLEANEST stay possible. I believe this was the first time this couple has every been to the tropics. We do have insects here in Hawaii and we do our best to keep them outside. Like 95% of home owners in Hawaii we use eco-friendly insect bait around our homes to keep insects away, but sometimes they get through. I am deeply sorry that a few got through during these peoples stay here. The ant(s) that you might have seen are called honey ants. They are no bigger then a pin head. We do not have anything in Hawaii that is venomous. We do wash all utensils as well in our cottage so I am not sure what they found or saw. I live right next door and if I was informed by these circumstances by this couple I would of been right over there to resolve this issue. Once again, I am sorry to this couple for the ant(s) and dirty utensil that they encountered. Besides this, I hope they had a pleasant time here on Maui. ALOHA

My girlfriend and I spent several nights here and loved it. The cottage is tucked away off the road just a bit and has plenty of room for a couple. Little kitchen if you want to do some cooking, fridge, TV, BBQ on the back porch, etc... Hunter and his family are really nice and helpful. Everything was ready when we arrived, a key was waiting and that was that. The privacy was a nice change as was the little town Haiku. There are a few places to eat and shop within walking distance. I think we ate at Colleens every night, after long days of exploring, it was great. We had spent several days in Kihei and were burned on the resort vibe, so coming here was so nice. Also if you are planning to do the road to Hana (you would be a fool not too) this is a great place to start. We circled around the whole east side of the island and it was easily my favorite day of our vacation. Anyway, I definitely recommend staying here, great value, great vibe, easy and ultimately fun and relaxing. Thanks Hunter! I'm sorry I did not get to say goodbye, have a great summer!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

If you're looking for a simple, functional and private one bedroom cottage away from the tourism on Maui, this is the place for you. The kitchen had the basic tools we needed to have some meals in house and allowed us to spend more of our vacation budget on play rather than meals out. The cottage is just steps away from a handful of restuarants and basic services. Hunter was nearby for anything we might have needed, but gave us complete privacy otherwise. We owe him an extra special thanks for sending us our Ipods that we forgot in the cottage! Being in Haiku gave us a head start on the highway to Hana and put us ahead of the traffic - that was great! Hope to visit again soon!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This 1 bedroom, mother-in-law type cottage was a great place off the beaten path (but not too far). If you are looking for simple, functional and affordable in a cozy community literally steps away from restaurants and services, this is the place. The kitchen had the basics that we needed to eat some meals in house and helped us save more of our vacation budget for playing in the sun. Hunter, the property owner, left us to our privacy, but was just steps away if we needed anything. We owe him extra special thanks, since he sent our Ipods back to us (and he covered the shipping!) after we forgot them in the cottage upon leaving Maui. The best part about the cottage, is that it is just past Paia and it puts you in a prime location to beat the traffic out to Hana. We hope to stay again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
