Situated high on a southwest facing bluff and sheltered in a cedar grove, Sunset Retreat boasts the tranquility of the forest and the warmth of the sun, all the while offering panoramic views of the ocean, islands and surrounding mountains.

Nestled in a forest of majestic cedars, this beautiful location is abundant with wildlife--deer, bald eagles, herons, sea lions, otter, orca whales, and seabirds abound. The calm protected waters are perfect for canoeing or kayaking and you will watch passing boats and marine life from the deck of this privately owned vacation home.
Architecturally designed, 2400 square foot Sunset Retreat was built to maximize the breathtaking view from all the major rooms and features a huge ocean side sun deck that runs the length of the upper level of the house. With a south western exposure, the deck is a great place for soaking up the sun and dining outdoors. There is also a sundeck off the lower level master bedroom where you can relax with your morning coffee as you watch the Orca Whales and seals cavort in the ocean below while eagles and ravens soar above.
Sunset Retreat features a spacious sun-filled open plan living/dining/kitchen area and is equipped with comfortable furniture in the living room along with a TV, stereo, CD player and DVD player and a dining table that seats up to eight. There is a fully-equipped kitchen, and for your convenience, a washer and dryer. High Speed wireless internet is availabe so bring along your laptop! In the lower level games room there is a billiard table and dart board as well as television and DVD player.
Enjoy this home's unique, west coast style featuring wood beamed ceilings and a dramatic floor to ceiling rock faced wood burning fireplace. In the winter months, a cozy fire and a good book will provide welcome relaxation while you watch the ever changing maritime scenery.
With four tastefully furnished bedrooms and two full bathrooms, Sunset Retreat comfortably accommodates eight people with one queen bed, two double beds and two twin beds. Two bedrooms are located on the water side of the house and offer spectacular water and island views. All the beds have puffy duvets--perfect if you want to cozy up in bed and linger over your morning coffee as you gaze out at the view and watch the seals, otters and whales frolic in the water below.
Even the cook won't object to preparing meals as the view from the kitchen is superb. The fully equipped oak kitchen has everything needed to prepare a simple snack or a sit down dinner for eight. A gas barbeque on the deck is available for you to grill up your Catch of the Day. Face the ocean and linger over a delicious dinner at the patio table on the deck or indoors at the dining table. Whatever you pleasure, you will savour the view along with your meal.
After dinner, settle into a cozy corner by the crackling fire and escape into a good book or retreat to the games room to shoot some pool or a take in a challenging game of darts. Perhaps you will retire to the deck with a glass of wine and toast the glorious sunset that signals the end of another perfect day.

I have to say on behalf of our entire family, Pender Island and Sunset Retreat in particular exceeded our expectations by a very wide margin. Your retreat is a fabulous escape from the hectic pace of our everyday lives. In fact, we and our European family visitors found ourselves on many occasions just looking across the balcony to the boats and the scenery in front of us, despite plans to read one of the many books we brought with us. Life on the island was just the way I like it - not busy at all. The produce available from the Farmer’s Market was very tasty. The roadsides too provided my wife and I with limitless quantities of sweet blackberries. I am very impressed with the layout of your home. The large deck is fabulous and the interior allows us to be together or have privacy depending on what we wish. The kitchen is very well equipped. We, and especially the children, were excited by those long-legged deer wandering about the site, munching on dried arbutus leaves. And yes, on our first full day (Monday) the kids and I saw a huge pod of orcas swim westward. Later we found out that as many as 50 whales were in that particular pod! Amazing creatures. We have gathered many fine memories during our stay at your home. I hope that we get an opportunity in the future to repeat what we experienced recently.
