Large Beautiful Tuscany Villa-In the Heart of the Famous Chianti Tuscany Countryside close to Florence, Siena and Tuscany's Most Famous and Beautiful Hill Top Towns.
Our large 500 year old stone country house-villa (230 square meters or 2, 475 square foot) has been lovingly and completely restored to the highest standards and in keeping with the beautiful Tuscan aesthetic. It is superbly located 20 minutes south of Florence (direction Siena) in classic Tuscan Chianti countryside and is surrounded by rolling hills, tree lined valleys, olive groves, vineyards, castles and renaissance villas.
The villa has large spacious bedrooms and living areas, antiques, stone floored bathrooms with high quality fittings, four poster beds and traditional architectural elements including a hand carved large fire place and ancient wooden beamed ceilings as well as a sensitive restoration of original doors and windows.
The villa is on four levels and has traditional terra cotta flooring throughout. The villa comes with fine furnishings and linens as well as antiques and high quality home wares including ceramics, cutlery and all new superb quality European kitchen appliances. It has three large double bedrooms, three bathrooms with the highest quality fittings; two large lounge rooms, (sleeps up to 8) and one large live in kitchen as well as a separate laundry.
Local artisans have hand crafted to order fine furniture and fittings in traditional style including an iron four poster bed and an antique style traditional kitchen dresser. Out door areas include a large loggia (traditional covered veranda with oak beams and terra cotta floors) with beautiful views. The loggia has a large new gourmet BBQ as well as a large iron antique table with wooden top (seating 10) with iron patio chairs and out door divan lounge. Off the loggia in front of the house is a large ancient stone court yard, a separate oak beamed pavilion with lounge seats and table with iron balustrade and beautiful views. The courtyard also comes with a medieval stone well and troughs and leads onto a lower court yard and terrace, a forest area with oaks, private gardens and a large above ground pool.
The garden is planted in traditional Tuscan style with olive trees, lavenders, rosemary, traditional old style roses and pomegranates.
All the rooms and gardens have beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside as the villa is situated on a hill and overlooks grand historical estates such as the 1,000 year old Castle of Bibbione, mentioned in Salman Rushdie's latest book 'The Enchantress of Florence'.
We also have an above ground pool with four large reclining teak lounge chairs and bar fridge all set on a hillside with beautiful views.

This villa is everything you could want. The owner is great, it is close to Florence, and the home is amazing. The home had plenty of room for the 6 of us that stayed. The viewing courtyard pavilion was amazing for sunsets. I would highly recommend this villa to a friend.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is what dreams are made of! We were fortunate enough to spend a week of our honeymoon at Poggi Canali and I will for the rest of my life have fond memories of the gorgeous views and the villa itself. The villa is exactly as the pictures show-even better if that is possible. It was clean, well maintained and it was obviously lovingly maintained. Every detail was perfect-absolutely gorgeous. The views were unbelievable-everything I had dreamed of. The villa provides several areas to sit back, relax and absorb nature at its finest. The sunrise and sunsets were spectacular-pictures cannot do it justice. The location of the villa is somewhat remote; you have excellent privacy yet are close enough to the town. The most fantastic part is the villa is centrally located to so many incredible towns and villages-we were able to easily day trip to Siena, Cortona, Volterra and Greve to name just a few. As phenomenal as the villa were the owners themselves! Our honeymoon was made even more incredible with the assistance of Rose & Pierre. The recommendations they gave us were amazing. My husband is a chef and the restaurant suggestions were fantastic-a mix of "fancy" places mixed with "mom and pop" restaurants were offered; all of which were beyond expectations. They even went so far as to call and make reservations for us. They knew the best scenery spots, which towns offered what, even down to the best cheese maker around (if you like cheese go there-so worth it). I could go on & on about how amazing the villa and the owners are; I think I've run out of descriptive words already! Hands down, without a doubt, this was the vacation of a lifetime and I would (and will!) go back in a heartbeat. We cannot thank Rose & Pierre enough.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We stayed for a week at this charming villa and could not have been happier! The location made it accessible to major roads and towns, however, the villa itself is tucked away and quiet. The owners provided many helpful lists of their favorite local restaurants, wineries, cheese-makers, and attractions. The kitchen is spacious and we ate many meals with our group of 6 people there or on the large courtyard table. We didn't want to leave!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: It really gives us great joy to try to achieve the breathing of life back into a building that had obviously been neglected for at least a century. We try to follow a personal aesthetic of what is for us a Tuscan ideal of combining modern needs with the intrinsic beauty of old stone Tuscan houses, which in this case was made by Tuscan peasants who obviously were not expert builders. So when we put in new windows we had the builders ‘wonkify’ them, using as a model, a window in the house with an uneven arch. The builders laughed when we asked them to please not make the plaster on the walls perfect, because to make it perfect would not be ‘in keeping’. Some of the artisans, particularly a wonderful local carpenter always takes our ideas very seriously and assiduously follows requests like finding old glass (replete with bubbles and deformations) to put in hand crafted furniture and windows for us, so they are ‘in keeping’. We love Italian demolition yards and we appreciate the local artisan’s skills. We love the mark of an artisans hand to be apparent. We found an incredibly beautiful fireplace lying broken on the ground in a demolition yard near Carrara on the Tuscan coast. The owner assured us that they would fix it and that I would hardly see that it had been cracked in half, but for us, this made the piece more beautiful and authentic. The crack visible enhanced and aged the piece rather than detracting from it. It was carved by a young French sculptor from French limestone. In depth and very serious discussions followed about exactly what the appropriate aesthetic and placement of the fireplace should be with the passionately concerned owner of the demolition yard. That’s another thing we love about Italy; a deep respect for doing things well. I prefer not to use the local pietra serena for architectural features such a fireplaces as I find its greyness and texture depressing. So we raised some local artisan’s eyebrows choosing to use another stone.
Why the Owner Chose San Casciano in Val di Pesa:
Prime location in the heart of Chianti but close to Florence's world famous museums. We are surrounded by fabulous high quality Chianti Classico wine making estates, olive oil producers, Castles estates, a beautiful Abbey, stunning Villas and ancient stone Tuscan country houses. Our home is situated at the end of a quiet country lane just off the road from San Casciano to Mercatale.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
Our country house is surrounded by and overlooks the stunning estates of Prince Corsini and vineyards of famous superb quality wine producing estates such as Villa le Corti- a magnificent Corsini villa from the sixteenth century. Close by are fabulous restaurants, wine estates and historical monuments as well as Etruscan ruins. The wines of the Gabbiano Castle estate close by are also superb, as are the cellars of the Antinori estates attached to the ancient picturesque Abbey called Badia Passignano founded in the year 890. There also is a wonderful cheese producer (we like to call him the “Michelangelo’ of cheese makers) on a picturesque and ancient estate close by where you can drop in and taste the gourmet chesses produced for some of Italy’s top restaurants. The country house is located in a kind of ‘slow food’ heaven where you could easily spend each day for a month sampling wonderful wines and local foods. Added to this, not only is the countryside authentic beautiful Tuscany but conveniently located close to the magnificent art city of Florence, with world famous museums, galleries and restaurants. The country house is also close to famous beautiful hill top towns such as San Gimingnano and Siena. The area is where famous historical figures such as Machiavelli lived and worked and where artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Ghirlandaio crisscrossed the countryside in search of patrons for their work.
On the next hill are also horse riding facilities where you can wind your way through the local vineyards and cypress lined woods on well trained horses with instructors. The woods and rolling fields around the country house have many beautiful wild flowers where you can often see locals collecting delicious wild asparagus and salad greens.
