My high school girlfriends and I have been meeting for a week at the beach each year since 1992. This year we decided to try a new location, and we settled on Kate’s Place. It’s a perfect place for a girls’ getaway!! We made our selection from the online description, and we were not disappointed. It was totally accurate. The cottage is clean, spacious, comfortable, and inviting … very well appointed. Everything we wished for was there. We love to cook in, just relax, and visit. But we also enjoyed delicious meals out at The Fairhope Inn and Jesse’s Restaurant, as well as a few excursions to the charming shops in beautiful Fairhope. The grounds at Kate’s Place are lovely, with wonderful trees and pleasant landscaping. The cabin is setback far enough that we did not hear traffic, and the foliage offered total privacy from neighboring homes. Our daily walks were easy with the great walking paths along Scenic 98 … to the Grand Hotel in one direction and to Fairhope Beach the other way. With Mobile Bay in the back yard, we enjoyed time on the wharf at sunset. The icing on the cake was the wonderful hospitality of the owners, Mike and Kathleen. We were respectful guests, and our damage deposit was returned to us immediately. We were indeed pleased with our week at Kate’s Place, and we will return!Recommended for: Girls getaway.

Myself and three buddies visited for a golf trip and Kate's place provided us with excellent amenities and an ideal location. We cooked on several nights and sat on the porch and couldn't ask for a better setting. I hope to bring my wife and kids at some point, its perfect for any event or group, thanks Mike.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

kate's Place was rented by one of my sisters who - along with her spouse, another sister and spouse, and myself - attended the wedding of our brother's stepdaughter in the Daphne-Fair Hope area. This lovely home could not have been a better choice for us. the two couples had their own suites - one downstairs (which was most convenient for the husband who had recently undergone foot surgery), and the other couple were upstairs. Each of the suites had its own bathroom and my own upstairs room also had easy access to yet another bathroom. Parking was ample for our two vehicles and for the cars of other members of our family when they visited us over the weekend. The beach was easily accessible and provided instant entertainment for children and adults alike. the large-screen tv and plentiful, comfortable seating in the living room area made it a perfect room for getting together. the kitchen was spacious and fully stocked (including a coffee-grinder) with all modern conveniences. Everything - linens, floor, furnishings - was clean and attactively arranged. Although we did not use it, there is a formal dining room (we ate and visited primarily at a small, round table-fo 4 off the kitchen and overlooking the living room area, which had its own wet bar. We also enjoyed the front porch, complete with rocking chairs and a view of a lovely front yard with mature vegetation. the house is set to the back of a deep lot, rendering suitably isolated from traffic noise on the main road. this home was a perfect place for our family gathering; we were able to "hang-out," as well as to venture out easily - either on foot, or by car - to the areas numerous attractions. My only reservation would be that the staircase may be a concern for families with young children.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Wonderful home away from home whether you are in the area for vacation or business. Fabulous location and has everything you could want in a house! More than enough room for our family of five. Mike and Kathleen are such gracious hosts, sharing sunsets with them on the pier was a highlight of our trip!!! They have lots of great ideas about where to go and shop. Wintzell's restaurant, only 2 blocks away, is a must.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, girls getaway.

The amenities at Kate's were superb, all the furnishings, artwork and personalized decorating details made the cottage feel like a real home. Their grounds are like living in an arboretum, and the pier is a nice respite. We especially enjoyed the convenience to the biking and walking trail and close proximity to downtown Fairhope and the golfing at Lakewood. The house is very spacious with lots of Southern "charm" from the split brick flooring, wood burning fireplace, and open stairway. The owners live on site, Mike and Kathleen, and they were so helpful in providing items for crabbing, fixing our bikes, and wood for the fireplace. What kindly souls! Highlights were the Christmas festivities and Mardi Gras parade in Fairhope, there is always something happening in town.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Thank you for a wonderful visit to Fairhope and the Gulf Coast. Kate's Place was lovely - well appointed, immaculate and convenient. We appreciated all the touches - wonderful linens and comfortable living + a welcome basket, great magazines and the accessibility to the dock and all the local referrals. We loved sharing a part of the 'paradise' and wonderful living on Mobile Bay. We would highly recommend Kate's Place. We had a great time while visiting! Our hosts were great! My 2 year old loved them! The house was very roomy, comfortable and clean. We have 3 kiddos under 2 and we were able to spread out and have space. My 2 year old had a blast playing in the sand and the water. We enjoyed going to the bay and watching the fireworks. I hope we get to come back next 4th of July!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

Our family of six recently stayed at Kate's Place. Our close friends even came to visit for a few days. The house was the perfect size for us! We have four small children under 9. They took two of the the upstairs rooms. We took the other upstairs room. We had PLENTY of room. Our friends stayed in the master bed room down stairs.(They are elderly, so we did not want them to have to climb stairs). The house is just darling! Kathleen thought of all of the sweet extras! It was great having a kitchen to cook in, when we did not want to bring the children out. The pier and beach were beautiful. The children had a blast playing out there! The most beautiful sunsets, I have ever seen! The house was very clean and was comfortable. The front yard is huge for the children to play in. It is the PERFECT location. In the morning I would run to the park and it was just a few miles. If you take a left the Grand is around two miles. The sandwich shop two sisters was SOOO good. (across the street). We had a wonderful vacation at Kate's Place. We will be sure to come back next summer. I HIGHLY recommend!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: Kathleen (aka Kate) and I are migrants from the St Louis area. We moved here permanently in '09 for the climate and the lifestyle of a smaller community. Fairhope has all of the advantages of a small town and many of the advantages of a metropolitan area. We love the ambiance, working in the garden, boating on the Bay, meeting new people and keeping up with friends.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The location is THE thing. If you get lazy and don't want to cook, there are two restaurants and a sandwich shop/bakery within EASY walking distance but you still have the privacy of a suburban neighborhood.
