The Perfect Honeymoon Getaway

When we found our venue, we had a tough choice to make: either get married in 8 months or wait 2 years. We really were too excited to wait that long so we went with the earlier date- only problem was we both had final exams the week after our April wedding date. We decided to go for it and do a little weekend honeymoon and go on a real honeymoon after finals. The only problem was that all the log cabins we found were 3-6 hours away.Then we found this gem, only an hour away from where we got married in CT, we felt like we hit the jackpot...and we pretty much did. It was sad to see such a special day go, but as soon as we pulled up to the cabin- we decompressed. It really felt like a fairytale. Everything in the log cabin was perfect. The open kitchen, the skylights, the huge wood-burning fireplace, the hot tub, and the wedding gift Christine left us to enjoy. It was all beyond perfect. We immediately explored the grounds and put the trampoline to good use. We only stayed two days, but I would say it was the equivalent of a one week getaway anywhere else. We drove to the nearby towns to go grocery shopping and got lunch in Canaan. We even hiked up Haystack Mountain and enjoyed the brisk Spring air. We went back "home" and just soaked in the quiet beauty. We had both stayed at vacation rentals before, but what set this one aside was the amount of care that is taken to make your stay as comfortable as possible. There are little notes everywhere explaining where everything is, there is coffee and sugar, paper towel, and Ziploc bags...other vacation homes are just a shell. This log cabin is a home and you feel at home when you are there. We loved the board games and the comfy couch and cooking was a breeze due to the variety of cooking utensils, pots, etc. It is an incredibly romantic place, but the whole time we were there we talked about how much fun it would be to go with friends for a weekend trip, or for New Years, or with family and enjoy the little beach and the game-filled basement. I can't forget to thank Christine, who really made the whole process so easy and comfortable. She was incredibly helpful and we couldn't be happier with the whole experience. I could go on and on because this place now holds such a special place in our hearts and we plan on making many trips back to celebrate anniversaries or just to get away. All I can say is that if you're looking for the perfect place, save yourself some time, stay here and make some memories.

My family and I had an amazing time! We spent Thanksgiving weekend in this beautiful cabin and it was a memorable experience for my family. My children played on the trampoline and did some exploring through the woods surrounding the house. We brought our mountain bikes and spent much time getting some relaxation. In the evening, we played board games, read books, and sat near the charming fireplace. I would certainly recommend this to all families looking to get away and forget about it all?.

Deluxe cabin

Colebrook is a hidden town frozen in time, very charming and quiet. It's hard to believe it's an hour from Hartford and under three hours from NYC and Boston. The house really is made of logs. There is a pond on the property with a firepit and seating, reached by way of a short lighted pathway. The pond is nice to look at, but a bit muddy for swimming. We swam at the town beach in Winstead. The house is furnished with interesting books, games, and puzzles. We especially enjoyed the history of Colebrook we found there, by noted historian William H. McNeil. The kitchen is fully equipped. All the furniture, bedding, and equipment was in qood shape. The house is roomy and charming. We enjoyed the pool table and the air hockey table in the basement, and the hot tub in the screened-in porch.

My husband, myself, our adult children, & grandchildren had the most wonderful time at this home. It is a beautiful house that lacks nothing at all you need nothing but your food, drink & charcoal. We had the most relaxing time while never being bored, the little ones just had the time of their lives riding their little quads all over, jumping on the trampoline, roasting marshmellows over a camp fire and making smores.Then when the kids went to sleep the adults headed to the hot tub for cocktails and conversation.The lay out was perfect had so much room & the grounds are huge, we felt like we where in Vermont or New Hampshire yet we where only one hour from home. We will definately rent again thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us.

What a wonderful vacation it was! Peaceful and tranquil,just what we were looking for. Great cabin,comfortable,spacious and all the the things we needed. Enjoyed the hot tub very much. Would recommend the cabin to anyone, well worth the money! Would like to go back sometime.

Charming Cabin in Beautiful Setting

I love this cabin - in just a few weeks I will make my third visit. The cabin is very spacious, and beautiful: kitchen is well equipped, hot tub is divine, trampoline is super fun, the fire pit is a big bonus, and sometimes you forget there is a basement with air hockey and pool, which is just the icing on the cake! Most of my time at this cabin is spent forgetting about my fast paced life in NYC, and reading by the fireplace, a great place to accidentally fall into a cat-nap! The CT Berkshires are where I grew up, fall here is like nowhere else on the planet. The leaves are changing color and everywhere you look it is just breathtaking. Some fun things in the area that I enjoy include picking apples at the picturesque apple orchard - Averill Farm in Washington Depot, and taking a canoe on the Farmington River. If you happen to be staying over labor day weekend, the Goshen Faire is a must, a quaint town fair with contests judging everything from Cattle, Pies, Pumpkins, and a father/daughter log sawing contest that my family would participate in (though I was too young to join in). Christine and her husband have always been responsive, and flexible when I have booked (and I tend to make a lot of changes to my travel plans!). Very sweet people, you can tell by their well loved home. It's pretty much my dream to someday own a place just like this, in this part of CT, but until then, I'll keep visiting this cabin!

Awesome Cabin!!

My family and I had a wonderful time in August 2010 at this secluded cabin. It was a great place to relax and unwind. There are homes around you but it seems as if you are out there all by yourself. It was beautiful. We had breakfast on the porch, read in the den, had pool game matches, and taught my mother-in-law how to play air hockey. The hot tub was a wonderful addition every night to relax and unwind. We travel to a few waterfalls and state parks in the area and did a bit of hiking. We went to Kent walked around, had lunch and went to the waterfall. We also went to Old Strubridge Village in MA. At night we lite a fire in the fireplace while we played board games. It was a lovely time and we look forward to visiting in the Winter. Thank you for renting out your wonderful and relaxing get-away cabin :)

Wow wow wow. What a perfect getaway spot. Great for grilling by the pond, hanging out by the campfire, strumming guitars on the front porch, warming up in the hot tub, cooling off at Colebrook pond, tubing in the farmington river. The cabin is beautifully maintained, with lots of love and care. Thank you!

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at this log cabin. It was everything we expected it to be, and more. Clean, very cozy, well equipped and so spacious.The cabin is in an idyllic spot, and is a must for any nature/bird lover like ourselves. We sat by the pond a lot, watching many different woodland birds come and go.Our weekend flew by too quickly. The nearby town of Winsted has plenty shops, restaurants and a swing park. We will definitely return later on in the year.

I stayed in the cabin this past weekend to meet with friends and to have some time outside of the city. Wow, what a find! Incredibly cozy. Large and well- equipped kitchen, inviting fireplace, nestled in the woods near lots of outdoor activities. Would definitely recommend the place for anyone looking for a log cabin, rustic retreat. Setting up the reservation was very easy and I was provided with lots of information about the area, which was incredibly helpful. It was a wonderful weekend getaway!

Three couples from Manhattan wanted a quiet getaway for New Years weekend 2010 - this cabin was the perfect choice! We spent the whole time in the house, which was much larger than we expected, lounging, cooking, playing board games, and watching movies. The hot tub was a great perk and all necessities are within a short drive. The owners were a pleasure to work with. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend out of the city!

Fabulous time in the quiet cabin. My two (2) boys loved the pond and frogs and fish. We have stayed in different cabins in August for the past decade in the NE - this was by far the cleanest and had a superior kitchen. I sat on the porch and down by the pond and read the entire week. The internet service was a tremendous help for those of us leaving work at the last moment and with no notice! We grilled, made a fire, read, napped, ate, and never left the premises. Property is secluded and we felt safe letting our boys run the property.

We had a wonderful time at the cabin. It was just two of us, and it managed to feel cozy even though it was actually quite large and could have held far more people. The cabin itself is lovely and has pretty much everything you could need. The location is absolutely fantastic as well. It's a very easy drive from NYC and, while the cabin is far enough removed from "civilization" to feel you're really getting away, it's just very short trips to many different CT and NY towns with antiques, gourmet food and chocolate, teas and coffee, etc. In addition to all this, Christine and Jim are delightful to deal with and very accommodating. I would unreservedly recommend a stay here. One side note - bring your laptop with an ethernet connection if you mean to do any planning while you're there. There's no wi-fi for iPhone/BlackBerry and the cellular Edge network is painfully slow (for AT&T at least). But hey, it's the countryside, what do you expect? Better yet - lose your smartphone for a while and relax.

This lovely cabin is a perfect getaway with all the comforts of home (and then some!) Adults loved the hot tub,the quiet of the woods, and the convenience of the well-equipped kitchen. Kids loved the frog pond, the trampoline, the game room, and the freedom to roam. Beds were comfortable and space was plentiful. Hopefully we'll be back some day. This place is great!

We found this cabin listing on VBRO and we were able to rent the cabin for 17 days with a 3 day advance notice - thanks to the owners for their flexibility! The cabin is fantastic and easily accomodates our family which includes 7 children ages 2 through 14 and 2 parents. Everything is in great condition and you cannot beat the privacy of this cozy cabin in the woods. We were the first to use the pond for the season so we picked up a leaf rake at Walmart and cleaned the leaves within a couple of hours. They kids loved the pond and small beach and we had a camp fire every day. The fire wood is available on-site for a small fee, cheaper than buying in town. You can also gather wood in the woods around the property. Rain was not a problem with the indoor play area, pool table, jacuzzi and air hockey, not to mention the reading library for quiet time. Evenings were usually spent at the town school - they have an exceptional new playground and ball fields. The town pond and beach is open in July and August, but we did not use it given the on-site pond. We cooked most of our meals in the cabin but there are many places to eat in town including fast food, casual and formal dining. Kent Pizza is great - cheese steak hogies are awesome. Check out RC Sports behind DQ off Rt 44 in Winsted. They have mini-gold, go-carts, batting cages, ice cream, game room, etc... Not too expensive either. Visit the shops in town and find some great deals. Take a scenic ride on Rt 44 West to Canaan and South on Rt 7 to Falls Village. Rt 44 East will take you to intertubing and to several State parks. Honestly, we could hardly stand to leave the comfort and peaceful cabin in the woods. This is a place worth spending some time at least once in your life. We will definitely be back. It is perfect for all seasons given the proximity to winter sports in the area. Enjoy!!!

we just came back from a weekend in the cabin. it was amzing!!! this cabin is perfect, it has every thing you need in one place for evry weather. we had a weekend that was very rainy and we hardly got a chance to enjoy the outdoors, the pond and the trampoline, but the indoors was very inviting, cozy, clean. plenty to do. the owners are very nice, we will definitly come back, hopefully with a better weather. but still just perfect!!!!!

This was a wonderful log cabin retreat for a group of old high school friends who gathered together for a mini-reunion this past weekend. We had such a great weekend here and all commented on how it was the perfect setting for catching up and enjoying each other's company. The cabin is much larger than it looks in the photos and is quite rustic and charming. The hot tub provided a much-needed respite from city-life! I would highly recommend this cabin rental and would not hesitate to stay here again!

Our stay at Cozy Log Cabin was everything we hoped for. After a whirlwind few days in New York it was a completely restful contrast. The cottage was LOVELY. I told the class I teach that I had stayed in the Three Bears Cottage! It was very well equiped, comfortable and very clean. The beds were all very comfortable and the hot tub was fantastic. The surrounding area was beautiful and there were lots of places to walk. We took the hosts advice about local places to see and eat. The Winstead Diner is a must and the village of Colebrook is very interesting (historically). I would definately go back again once we have practiced our fire lighting skills. A very memorable holiday. Our two teenage daughters also loved it splitting their time between the hot tub and the pool table. GREAT !!

I can't say enough about our weekend at your log cabin. To say it was perfect would be an understatement! It was only an hour from our house but felt worlds away. We loved relaxing in the hot tub, lying by the fire, walking around the property and using the game room. We arrived Friday night and didn't leave until we had to Sunday afternoon. The kitchen had all the necessities that we needed and beyond to prepare a home cooked meal. I can't wait to go back in the winter to go ice skating and the summer to make smores by the lake!

What a lovely cabin this is! We enjoyed every second we were there, and intend to return. Everything was well labeled and immaculate. We felt at home immediately and enjoyed the trampoline, pool table, air hockey, and even the board games, as well as the fireplace. We never did get in the hot tub, but it looked inviting! The beds were comfy, cozy and the cabin was wonderful in the downpour of rain we had. Thanks so much, we'll be back!

Our stay was fantastic! The log cabin was perfect for my wife and I as well as for our kids (6 yr old and 1 1/2 yr old). The place was very well maintained and very clean, which made us very happy. The frog pond and the trampoline entertained the kids for hours and we loved the charcoal grill and the porch. We would definitely stay here again.

I took my girlfriend to the cabn for a getaway and I found this place did not dissapoint. It's a beautiful cabin and very well equipt. I highly recomend on a clear night turning off all the lights and laying on the grass to watch the stars...absolutly breathtaking

Our family stayed at the cabin for a week in January, with a few of my son's college friends. We drove up and were surprised to see how much snow was on the ground. It truly did look like a winter wonderland with the cozy cabin surrounded by pine trees and snow. The week of our stay was very mild for Jan., but there was so much snow it lasted all week. We had the best of both worlds with the spring like temperatures to enjoy the outdoors, and the snow cover which added to the beauty of the surrounding property. Everything in the cabin was neat and clean, and it was equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We brought most of the food with us, but the town of Winsted was close by for pizza and quick trips to the store. We all enjoyed the large hot tub, and watching movies by the stone fireplace in the living room. We were able to explore the area around this beautiful northwest corner in Ct. Our three sons and their friends were happy to have their own space downstairs to hang out and play pool and air hockey. We would highly recommend the Colebrook cabin, and would very much like to vacation there again in every season. Thanks Christine for making this a very special week with wonderful memories for our family!

Loved our stay here, very restful in the cabin if you wanted to just hang out, but a good jumping off point for exploring the surrounding area as well. Plenty to amuse and occupy children. The cabin is very well presented and clean, with lots of lovely little touches. Would come again.

The log cabin is much bigger than it appears in the photos- charmingly decorated. Initially, we found it a bit dark, but after getting more lighting it was suitable for a longer term stay. There is plenty to do for children, woods to explore, a pond and creek, trampoline, billiards table, air hockey and lots of board games in the cupboards.The hot tub on the porch has a lovely view. The owners are very generous with their hospitality- they suggested we borrow their skates to use on the frozen pond ! Everything that a family would need is provided- lots of helpful little notes everywhere make it easy to find things. The property is very private, down a long driveway, so invisible from the road. Yet it is only just over 5 minutes to the local town, and shopping, and only 2 hrs 20 mins to midtown New York- making day trips for shows/museums a possibility. Downsides are that cable TV/internet connection are not routinely available ( we were here for 3 1/2 months, so we arranged it just for the time that we were here) Log cabins are fairly noisy and poorly sound proofed. And if you like a long late sleep in, there are only decorative lacy curtains at the windows, and skywindows in the master bedroom, with no way of blocking out the sun in the morning. But this didn't significantly detract from a most enjoyable stay. We wish we could have stayed much longer, because we so loved our respite in the woods. I spent many enjoyable hours by the fire or gazing out at the surrounding woods. Very peaceful and beautiful. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who appreciates rustic country decorating ( without being twee), seclusion in the woods but easy access to a large range of activities and day trips, even New York city !

I'd like to say this place was great. We rented the cabin for a weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. It was very comfortable for the 8 people we had. We got lucky with gorgeous weather which allowed us to enjoy the front porch for relaxing. There was also a nice fire pit down by the pond for some late night hanging out. We had a radio playing most of the weekend and never heard a complaint from any of the neighbors. People in the area seemed very laid back and friendly. The yard itself is big enough for small kids but don't expect to have any football or whiffle ball games there. You can enjoy some fairly technical games of bocce though if you play around the yard. I wouldn't rate the yard size as a negative though; there are an inordinate number of public fields available for use downtown. I'd also like to complement the owners on the quality of the pool table in the basement. It looked newly refelted and all of the sticks were straight. I'd like to thank Christine for allowing us a memorable weekend at her place. It is definitely on the list of places to revisit.

Amazing stay in April. The weather was unseasonably cold, which made a cozy winter experience in this lovely cabin. It exceeded all of our expectations. Day trips to Stockbridge and the Hancock Shaker Village were great. Walked in to Colebrook. Great place, great people!

I was in a jam and Christine and this log cabin made me a hero. My original plans for my wife's 50th birthday were to take a trip. Her father became ill, though and she couldn't leave the area. I found the Colebrook cabin on line and decided to invite a group of my wife's women friends and relatives to hang out there for a weekend. On Saturday, my kids and I came over and we had a dinner and then we cleared out. 18 inches of snow on Friday night was perfect for atmosphere. Ladies snowshoed, walked, hot-tubbed and rolled around in the snow. Everyone wanted to know how I found the place. Fireplace and furnishings were perfect and some extra courtesy by the owner Christine made this a birthday to remember for my wife, which is what I wanted it to be. Thanks for everything.

Our stay was everything we hoped for! The house is stunningly beautiful- all wood and little white lights and a gorgeous kitchen and fireplace; the location was perfect- woodsy and private but not in the middle of nowhere. We hope to return next year!

The cabin couldn't have been nicer, I thorooughly enjoyed my stay and will return next year certainly. Everything was handled perfectly. I had just returned from a Hawaii business trip, and the cool New England air was wonderful

The cabin was so nice we didn't want to leave. Very comfortable and cozy. Excellent hideaway but yet close to everything. Definitely would come again.

This is the most lovely log cabin I've ever been in. It is extremely well laid out and all the windows and sky lights give the cabin plenty of light. We were only there for the weekend which is too short a stay. My two kids had so much fun on the trampoline and hunting for mushrooms in the woods. This is a wonderful place to stay if you want to get away.

Your cabin is completely charming with wonderful amentities, including terrific kitchen, lovely dining area, perfect living room, great front porch, plus nooks and crannies. As two couples with a young child, we had plenty of room to be together or apart. The cabin is secluded yet in the heart of a lovely part of CT with some charming towns for shopping, sightseeing and dining. Everything we needed, including groceries, was nearby. Thank you! Hope we can go back next year.

A great cabin in a good location. Like really being in the woods but not too remote. Well thought out cards pinned on the walls made it easy to find your wat around and settle in quickly. The lads loved the basement games room and the beach/pond was ideal for evening barbeques. Close enough to New York for a day trip. We are already planning our next visit.

What an interesting place to stay! Your cabin and Colebrook was a very visual place. We enjoy the rustic feel of the cabin itself as well as the friendliness of the local people we met. The kids especially enjoyed the trampoline, pool and air hockey tables. Thanks so much.

I have to say that when I arrived, I was plesantly surprised at every corner while I explored this gorgeous log cabin. I really loved this place, the privacy, serenity, and comforts of the cabin. There is so much more character, charm & SPACE that these pictures don't show you. We so look forward to returning!

Impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. Room for the whole crew (2 full bathrooms), yet cozy for a couple and very quiet and private. Two stone fireplaces, nice billiard table, airhockey, hottub, and snug little library - so much nice inside you almost don't care about going out to enjoy the lovely little private pond and beach. Very limited restaurant selection nearby so be prepared to make use of the big well-equipped kitchen and grill.

We were a group of 5 adults who visited in May 2006 and found the cabin to be a wonderful place to get-away and relax -- you start with the natural beauty of the large land & pond, add-in peace & quiet from being in complete privacy, and then you get to enjoy all of the many amenities in the nicely furnished cabin. The online pictures do not give justice to how nicely furnished the cabin really is, and in addition to the fact evertyhing was in excellent condition there were many bonus items that made our stay even more relaxing (everything from board games to the jacuzzi & air hockey table to a barbecue grill -- and they even provided the charcoal!). This was our first stay at the cabin and we will definitely be back for a longer trip in the near future!
