IN A NUTSHELL: There may be less expensive properties available but probably few that can rival the decor and ambiance of this jewel of a Roman abode. Never conceived to be a rental, this is the actual very-lived in home of an American ex-patriot art collector and world traveler. It is decorated with sheer luxury - marble floors and Venetian stucco - and decorated with the finest high-design furnishings and museum-quality art and antiques. Suitable for celebrating a special occasion or a very memorable holiday in which IT DOES MATTER where you lay your weary head, this home will certainly form a major highlight of the more discriminating traveler's journey.

LOCATION: The apartment is located on one of the most charming streets of the Artist's Quarter of TRASTEVERE. The major thoroughfare of the district, Viale Trastevere, is just 200 yards away. Along this road run major bus and tram lines connecting to all points of the city. The most colorful fruit and vegetable market of the district lies just a couple of yards from the front door. The heart of the Quarter - Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere is one minute's walk away.

The important historical sites of Trastevere are all within a five-minute walk including the Bernini masterpiece of Beata Ludovica Albertoni in the Church of San Francesco a Ripa, Bramante's magnificent Renaissance chapel in San Pietro in Montorio, the frescoes of Raffaello in the Villa Farnese and the panoramic lookout point of the Janiculum Hill.

In the immediate vicinity there are pharmacies, convenience shops, banks, English-language cinemas and an American-style grocery. The nearest hospital is just 800 yards away. The best nightlife of the city is concentrated in the immediate vicinity including world-famous restaurants like Sabbatini, Galeassi, and Da Meo Pattaca.

THE BUILDING: Constructed in 1797 as part of Napoleon's first public works project in the city, this palazzo was created as one of the very first condominiums designated for the local populace under the French administration in what was then known as VIA VERDIRAME - a thoroughfare dating to Roman times.

Today's population is an interesting mix of locals and permanent foreign residents of the city involved in the arts and design. The inner courtyard and main facade - as well as the public foyers and stairwells - have all undergone a recent renovation and are in pristine state. The facade is in Neo-Classical style and the building is listed as a national historical monument.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

Time and again, guests tell me that the highlight of their stay is being keyed-in to a genuine Roman neighborhood community. Trastevere is certainly the soul of the city and the autheic "Romano de Roma" who seems to be evermore a rarity in other parts of the city is certainly alive and well here! Around the corner from the apartment is one of the liveliest piazzas in the city and is a meeting point for the local community at every moment of the day from morning cappuccino and cornetto in one of the lovely ourtdoor caffes to the mid-morning shopping ritual of one of the last remaining open-air fruit, vegetable and flower markets to children´s playtime in the afternoon to the sylish evening ¨"aperitivo" to the late-night parties over pizza and beer in the numerous trattorias along the perimeter of beautiful Piazza San Cosimato.

Dreamy Oasis - Wonderful Apartment-Will stay here again for future visits.

Guest: Stanley (North Carolina, USA)

Our experience with renting this apartment in Rome was very favorable. The location, Trastevere, is the perfect location in our opinion to stay while visiting. The apartment is gorgeous and well appointed. The bedroom is very comfortable and we slept so well because we did not hear any outside noise. We were greeted upon arrival by the nicest, most helpful gentleman and we really appreciated that after such a long journey. Stay here...you will not be disappointed!

Must be comfortable with nude art...

Guest: Rebecca K (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 09/06/09 Review Submitted: 09/10/11

So it's been over two years since we stayed here and it's possible that the art present during our rental is no longer there, but most of the art in this apartment consists of male nudes. No judgments here... just would like to have known this prior to stepping into the apartment. It might have been less startling if there weren't so many of them (I counted at least 10 from one vantage point) and maybe this is just an aesthetics issue. However, I think this is a detail worth mentioning to future renters. The apartment is spacious (by European standards) and generally attractive and nicely appointed. The bedroom is SMALL -- and I mean more like a closet than a bedroom. The mattress was noticeably soft and saggy. Again, perhaps another personal preference issue. Maybe this is how Italians like their mattresses? Who knows. Oddly, there was a tray of decorative items in the bedroom and these small items were glued to the tray. We found it a bit tacky. If one is concerned about theft, why not just leave the surface areas uncluttered? As for Vincent: when we ran into a few apartment issues (e.g., very small amounts of hot water, limited toilet tissue, etc.) he became slightly defensive and stated that he emailed us an "indispensable" guide to the apartment. This "indispensable" guide was supposed to have been attached to an earlier email (but was not) and because the text of the email referred to the guide as "... [his] own personal copy of My Welcome Guide to Rome... [with] hopefully, very useful information regarding the apartment and the neighborhood... " I did not realize the guide was "indispensable" to our stay in his apartment and therefore never requested a resending of the guide. Nonetheless, why would you not disclose this indispensable information prior to the rental transaction? We would not have rented the apartment had we known that the hot water would be so limited that I would have to wash my hair at night in order to ensure a brief hot morning shower. Guardian Angel, Lupo, was wonderful and offered his assistance throughout our stay in Trastevere. In short, this apartment may not be suitable if nude art makes you uncomfortable or if you happen to have long hair to wash. Otherwise, it's a pretty nice place in a great neighborhood. One last note, 10 weeks after my stay I requested that VRBO contact Vincent regarding my security deposit. After VRBO contacted Vincent, my deposit was promptly returned.

a Romantic hidden gem..

Guest: Diego (San Diego, Ca. )
Date of Stay: 08/31/10 Review Submitted: 03/27/11

After doing alot of research on places to stay we decided to go with this apartment. It was wonderfully appointed and completely exceeded our expectations upon arrival. Vincent was really easy to work with and this is a great place if you are planning an extended stay in Rome. The neighborhood was vibrant and the home was very peaceful and quiet. I personally really admired history of the building and how tastefully his home was decorated. Vincent's various guides and recommendations are a gold mine alone, they really help you get the best of Rome. The concierge service really pushes this property above and beyond. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a 1br in Rome.

Elegance and Comfort in Trastevere

Guest: Gregory John (Lauzerte, France)
Date of Stay: 12/08/10 Review Submitted: 12/31/10

It was my first visit to Rome and I couldn't have imagined a better place to stay than this lovely apartment. Located in trendy Trastevere, the apartment is elegant, yet comfortable. It was a wonderful refuge after a long day of sightseeing, for which the apartment is ideally situated: the Vatican, Ancient Rome, and the city center are only short walks away. And while the apartment's kitchen is well equipped, you'll want to take advantage, as I did, of the numerous restaurants all over this neighborhood. Vincent's own guidebook, which every guest receives, has many recommendations of where to eat/go and what to see/buy in the neighborhood, and it was a valuable resource. Thanks, Vincent, for sharing your lovely home with me. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Mid December in Trastevere

Guest: Scott (Denver, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 12/17/10 Review Submitted: 12/30/10

We found the apartment well appointed, very conveniently located and comfortable. We walked all the way to the Vatican. We also figured out the public transportation. It is a simple matter to get anywhere in downtown Rome from the apartment. The Roma Pass was a good buy. The market on the piazza is a great place to get breakfast and provisions for the apartment. Fresh fruit, meat, cheese, fish and baked goods from the bakery shiop. I speak very little (almost no) Italian, but that was no problem if you are open and flexible with communication. The restraunts in walking distance are wonderful and affordable (fine dining is pricey as expected). Walking around Trastevere was a great day. We had three adults - Mom, Dad and an adult child. The only minor complaint was that the coach was not the most comfortable to sleep on. The main bed is very comfortable - set an alarm or you risk sleeping the day away.

The REAL Roma.

Guest: Peter (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 10/25/10 Review Submitted: 12/15/10

After a week at a 4-star hotel, we moved to this ideal Trastevere apartment, the real Rome, for a far more enjoyable stay. Perfect location, non-touristy, easy walks to the Vatican, Parthenon, Campo de' Fiorie Piazza market & Jewish Quarter. The apartment is quiet, posh, perfect for a couple, beautifully decorated and quite modern. We enjoyed several meals with the fireplace, impressed guests with the decor, and felt very well taken care of with Erica, the Guardian Angel. When we needed an early ride to the airport, she made sure our driver arrived exactly at 3:45 AM. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Look No Further

Guest: ourdub (New Orleans, Louisiana U.S.A.)
Date of Stay: 09/09/10 Review Submitted: 11/22/10

Our review is simple. We don't think you can find at its price (or probably any other) a more interesting, comfortable or satisfying apartment in which to spend your time in Rome. This is particularly true if Trastevere is your neighborhood of choice, as it was with my wife and I, The apartment is comfortable, luxurious in its details and decor, spacious, with all the beauty of an old Roman building updated with all modern conveniences. If there's something you need and you don't find it available to you in the apartment, well, in our opinion you don't really need it in the first place. Everything described in the website is accurate, and in fact understated since there is not one but 2 music systems in the house, the bed is even more comfortable than it is beautiful and the shower had more water pressure and hot water than anyone could possibly use. The tiny balcony is perfect for coffee in the morning, or a drink in the evening. The lighting is all on dimmers and can set the mood for either studying maps or a romantic evening at home. The decor and art are more varied and interesting than you will find in many luxury hotels. There is everything you need for cooking, or you can pick up food for dinner in one of the many excellent restaurants within a block or two of the apartment should you opt for that instead of going out. The open market for fresh vegetables, fruit and fish is 2 minutes from the door. NIght life in Trastevere is literally minutes away, but the apartment's position in the building makes it absolutely quiet day or night, even if throngs of people are enjoying themselves in the numerous cafes, bars and gelaterias just outside your door. There are detailed instructions on how to find and use everything in the apartment, as well as books on every aspect of Roman life, history, art and culture. You absolutely feel that you have just lucked into a dear friend's private Roman home which in fact you have. On our next trip to Rome we would not even consider looking for any other accomodation. Life in Trastevere is as close as you will ever get to an authentic Roman experience, and 15 Via Luciano Marana is the perfect home from which to experience it all. In case you can't tell, we absolutely loved it

What a pleasure! We hired Vincenzo's transport from FCO to the apartment. It was wonderful and much to our surprise, we were greeted by our guardian angel, Erica. The guardian angel is a wonderful service provided by Vincenzo; someone to help orient you to the apartment; very nice. The apartment itself is very spacious and comfortable. The location is GREAT! You will find easy access to local open air markets, cafes, bakeries and restaurants, plus you can walk or hop a bus or tram to anywhere in Rome. This is a GREAT find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vincenzo is the ultimate host. He prepared a lovely basket for us with fresh local treats and really made us feel at home. The local scene in Trastevere is incredible. He left a wonderful folder with all of his favorite local spots. This was our honey moon, and staying in this artistic apartment was truly romantic! Thank you, Vincenzo!

My husband and I spent the first 4 days of our trip in Trastevere and fell in love with it! We really enjoyed the neighborhood and couldn't wait to return after a day of touring the other historic sites. We were enchanted with the apartment decor and found Lupo very helpful. Thank you for easing us in to the Italian experience.
