Camping On A Different Level
Camping On A Different Level
Camping on a different level is how my husband described Inlet Cove. The cottage is surrounded by trees and has a camping feel to it. The neighborhood was very nice. We especially liked the fact that, to enter the community, you had to enter in a pin code at the entrance of the gated community. We felt very safe not only while in Inlet Cove but on the entire island of Kiawah. This particular cottage is not located directly on the beach nor can you see it from the cottage. On certain days when the ocean was rough we could hear the waves. Kiawah Island was amazing. A great place for families as the beach was not crowded and it isn't a party destination. There are bike trails that we rode on daily. The trails are paved. My husband and I enjoyed riding our bikes a short distance to the Straw Market where we would eat breakfast at The Southern Kitchen. This island is not full of hustle and bustle. It is definately a place to go if you want to kick back and relax. Our 15 year old son and his friend enjoyed the island park which has a basketball court. The beach has compacted sand so we would ride our bikes on it which we loved doing. The ocean water is not clear but was clean. About 1-2 miles away is Freshfields Village. It is an upscale shopping complex offering a market, sporting goods store, restaurants, clothing stores and a pharmacy. Our son's favorite shop was Marble Slab Creamery. He rode his bike there often to get wonderful ice cream. My entire family fell in love with Kiawah Island. As for the cottage. The pictures shown are accurate. It was clean but not immaculate. I felt as if I needed to wipe down the toilet and bathroom fixture with Clorox wipes upon arrival as the toilet had pubic hairs on it. The comforter on the master bed was either stained or dirty and the blanket that was in the closet had dried food on it which I could scrape off with my fingernail. We found it unsettling to have to kill 6 roaches inside the cottage over the course of our stay. They were not small roaches mind you. I don't know if this issue is exclusive to this cottage or not. The screened in deck had lots of cobwebs and was uninviting. My husband and I liked the layout of the cottage but felt as if it is not maintained as well as it could be compared to some of the other cottages we saw. The dryer went out and the owner replaced it immediately which was much appreciated. If we return to Kiawah we will stay at a different location.

wonderful, clean, and close to everything!!!
wonderful, clean, and close to everything!!!
My family and I stayed in this lovely cottage in august of 2011 and had an amazing time. The cottage was clean, roomy, and nicely decorated. The third full bath was the real game-changer for our family of 7. After a fun but sandy day at the beach, the girls had a shower, the boys had a shower, and so did my wife and I!! A fact that is much appreciated when remembering waiting in a wet swim suit waiting for the shower on past vacations! The pool and the awesome dock truly were only "steps away." With a three dollar crab net and some crab bait from the shop on the corner, the kids and I had a blast catching (and releasing) monster crabs every 3 or 4 minutes!!! And when they say the pool is the best on Kiawah, they aren't kidding. Large, clean, not crowed... what more could you want? The only larger pool was the one at Night Heron park, but that place was an absolute ZOO! One visit there was enough for 2 vacations. It was nice, but far from relaxing!! As far as Kiawah itself, it exceeded it's lofty billing by far! The beach was an absolute dream, with huge open areas to ride bikes, walk easily, and lay out. The waves were plenty big enough for boogie boarding, but with very little undertow and no drop-off, so it felt nice and safe for our little guy. The coolest surprise was the sand dollars, starfish, and small conchs we found out in the water. One day we spent about an hour and easily found 30 conchs, 100 sand dollars, and a gazillion star fish (all returned to the water after a brief happy dance and show off by the finder, of course!!) Best of all, the beach was a short bike ride away from the cottage. By the way, bikes are a must on the island, but very reasonable due to the many rental companies. (thank you capitalism at it's finest. A little competition and the prices stay nice and low!) If you need the flash of Myrtle Beach, this is not the place for you. It is laid-back, fun, but far from flashy or trashy. You pay for "nice" and you sure do get it here! Friendly people, clean and pretty houses, beautiful nature at it's most uncluttered. Kiawah is all that and more, and this cottage is the absolute best place to enjoy it from!!! We will DEFINITELY be back!!!!! Thanks!
