McKenzie River house description
This 3 bedroom, 2 bath house is ideal for exploring the gorgeous, fun-filled Willamette Valley and McKenzie River Scenic Route!! Then, come back to a home so cozy and peaceful you would not want to leave except it is also about 75 yards above the McKenzie River! The elevated position of the home over the river offers a fantastic view of both the river and what is called the 'pond' from the spacious covered deck. The pond is a quiet inlet of the river with a beach and swimming area. The river attracts osprey, herons, egrets, ducks, geese, otters and beavers, which can be seen frequently.
During the winter and spring months, the Berry Patch Vacation Rental is the perfect artist's retreat - complete a series of paintings on the private deck overlooking the McKenzie River or on those periods of dry weather - setting up the easel on the river bank or backyard of the main house. Or cozy up and storm watch, enjoying the quiet solitude of the nights.
For the more adventurous; try HooDoo Skiing, snowshoeing, or the hot springs (primative and developed.) Bring your books or hunker down for table game marathons. For authors; finish that novel in the quietness of a rain forest. Although the river is too high for water sports at this time of year, to see the raging river in the winter is quite an exciting experience.
From May on, there is easy (a rugged path for the youngsters and a dirt road for those who need it) river access for fishing, kayaking, rafting, and swimming. Fishing is excellent from the beach and rocks below the house. The house is at the end of a private lane nestled within 5 acres of blueberry bushes. Blueberries ripen in July and are available through August.
There is wireless Internet and Roku streaming for endless movies, games, music, and more. There is no TV reception. For those who love board games, there is a whole closet full of them. The living room, balcony, and Master Bedroom all have incredible views of the river. There is a large, covered balcony (or deck) for outside meals, wildlife viewing, reading or napping. The master bedroom has a king size bed, beautiful furniture and view of the river. The second bedroom upstairs has two twin beds. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, fireplace (the upstairs fireplace is non-functional), TV, and private bathroom. The kitchen includes large refrigerator and freezer, electric stove and oven, dishwasher, and all you need to cook gourmet meals.
Only half and hour from Eugene/Springfield and 65 miles West of Hoodoo ski area, The Berry Patch is ideally located for a winter or summer vacation. Tokatee Golf Course (nationally ranked) is about 25 miles from the house. Belknap Hot Springs is 30 minutes away, and endless miles of roads and wilderness to explore just outside your door.

Beautiful & relaxing vacation home
Beautiful & relaxing vacation home
We stayed at the Berry Patch house for 3 nights while we were moving our son into U of O. The location can't be beat. It did rain most of the time we were there, but the house and surroundings are so beautiful, we did not mind! Christine and Kacy are very attentive and there was nothing at the house that we lacked for. I highly recommend this house for any stays in the Eugene area.

Beauty on the McKenzie
Beauty on the McKenzie
Recently, both our son and daughter-in-law completed their Master's programs at UofO and we selected the Berry Patch Vacation Home for five nights to enjoy the festivities surrounding their success. It was the perfect choice. A short 30 minute drive from Eugene puts you in another world. We have stayed on the McKenzie River in the past but this location tops them all. The home affords three separate levels to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the river. A covered deck off the back of the house and two lawn areas adjacent to the water. The perfect spots to just sit and relax. We had plenty of room to set up a badminton net for a small get together to celebrate the graduation. The home is well off the main road and extremely quiet. Nothing but the river to listen to. Our oldest son, his wife and our four year old granddaughter shared the two upstairs bedrooms and we took over the huge downstairs bedroom with its private bath. The PERFECT arrangement. There is also a fireplace in the living room and one in the downstairs bedroom making for a very cozy setting on a cool night. The house is surrounded with Blueberries which tend to ripen in early July. We missed it by a week or two. Next time! All in all, a terrific and most relaxing experience. One we hope to repeat in the not too distant future.

Family fishing and barbecueing!!
Family fishing and barbecueing!!
What a wonderful place. Fifth generation house had interesting touches; you could see what I'm assuming is the original hearth baking stove in the kitchen! It was decorative of course, but lent a certain charm to the space. Open paths down to the water; great for skipping rocks! And the grandkids LOVED playing in the water! My grandson (8 years old) caught his first edible fish (12" rainbow trout!) and got to clean it and cook it! He caught his first fish last year, but it was just a little thing so back it went. Set back from the road behind acres of blueberry bushes, it was quiet and cozy. 30 minutes to downtown Eugene, but you felt like you were out in the middle of nowhere. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will stay again at the Berry Patch!! Thank you so much.

Owner response: Thanks, Edward! You know, we have photos of our mother at that same age (she is 89 now) catching Rainbow Trout right out of the river there at the Berry Patch. And we all grew up doing the same. Life times of memories, and now your children, too. Please do come again!

About the owner: The Berry Patch was originally purchased by J.H. P. Howard and has since been passed on to his children and grandchildren. This beautiful slice of heaven on Greenwood Dr., just one-mile east of the tiny town of Leaburg, is now being shared with the lucky ones who discover it.
Why the Owner Chose McKenzie River:
This home is available for long term rental from September through as late as June. However, sometimes it is available as a vacation rental, the calendar reflecting which.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
There is no better place to hang out on the McKenzie River. The waters can be swift and rough elsewhere on the river, but in front of the Berry Patch house, it slows and widens.
