Healdsburg house description
Very well located at the eastern end of the famed Dry Creek Valley and only 2.5 miles to historic Healdsburg’s Downtown Plaza, this charming Wine Country Cottage maintains the beautiful craftsmanship of its time, and yet is newly renovated, upgraded, and modernized with comfort and convenience all around. This ‘lovely lady’, in her spectacular setting, is newly furnished and beautifully decorated with original, eclectic, and handmade artwork painted in lovely relaxing hues, with newer dual paned windows, a new roof, hardwood floors, and a newly remodeled kitchen.
Just off of Dry Creek Road, a short drive up an oak-studded, paved, private lane, leads you to this heavenly, peaceful, and serene paradise. Enjoy the 3+ private acres with the beauty of nature all around and the hillsides covered with oaks, conifers, madrones, manzanitas, etc. An adjacent Zinfandel Vineyard provides vineyard views and grapes for the Rafanelli and Dry Creek Vineyard wineries’ excellent Zinfandel wines, and beyond enjoy the beautiful southerly views of the Dry Creek Valley and foothills. The property is primarily flat with half of the property on a slight downslope just below the house, and half rising behind and above the house.
Outdoor amenities abound for enjoying the beauty of Mother Nature, including a large side deck with umbrella and outdoor table and chairs for 8, and a separate spa deck with brand new 7+ person Hot Springs spa. A wild, natural, and peaceful garden area with a small lawn creates a special environment on the gentle downslope side of the home below the side deck, and is adorned with lovely plantings, shrubs, a graveled pathway, with seating areas, planting boxes, and is shaded by beautiful, mature California oaks. For the birders in your group, this beautiful bit of heaven attracts an incredible variety of all kinds of indigenous and even some migratory birds, including woodpeckers, steller and scrub jays, California quail, chickadees, nuthatches, owls, redtail hawks, song birds, hummingbirds, and on.
You can walk the many picturesque trails of this 3+ acre very special property and soak up the morning light as you begin your day, or find the perfect spot to view the fabulous sunsets, the experience of which will stay with you for weeks to come… it is truly a magical place! Additionally, several seating areas are provided on this lovely property for communing with nature, a quiet read, or simple contemplation. In the season, please enjoy watching the grapes grow! A propane Weber grill is provided for your grilling needs and the outdoor amenities are completed by a one-car covered carport and an adjacent large gravel drive area where there is room for another 3 or 4 cars when needed.
Now come on in and enter the beautiful living room with an original open-beamed, Redwood, cathedral ceiling, oak hardwood floors, and a ceramic gas logged fireplace with brick and oak mantle. For your entertainment pleasure, a 42” Sharp flatscreen HD TV is provided with DirecTV including the NFL Ticket and a Samsung DVD player. The well appointed living room is also ‘home’ to a newer deluxe queen sleeper sofa, comfy chairs, and a coffee table.
The living room opens to the dining room with bead board wainscoting, two windows, and a full glass door which leads to a brick railed porch transitioning to a large redwood deck with outdoor table, umbrella, and seating for 8+. Centered in the dining room is a beautiful handmade, recycled, wooden table seating 8+. The kitchen’s adjacent countertop also seats another 2-3 guests, as well as your ‘backseat chefs’. Open to the dining room is a newly renovated kitchen with granite countertops and built-in workstation.
The ‘heart’ of this lovely kitchen is a new stainless steel Frigidaire ceramic cooktop range with custom overhead hood. Additional appliances include a GE Fridge over freezer, Frigidaire dishwasher, Cuisinart toaster, Sharp Carousel microwave, and a coffee maker. The kitchen is also bead board wainscoted with custom, built-in cupboards and cabinetry including some crackled glass-faced cupboard doors. Post-feast cleanup is made easy with a double deep stainless steel sink with a garbage disposal and a high end pullout faucet. A large window over the sink provides beautiful views of the oak forested hillside abounding with ivy and madrones.
In moving on, we reach the bedrooms and bathrooms hallway; to the far right is a guest bedroom with a leather upholstered queen wooden sleigh bed, beautiful windows treated with decorative drapes for privacy and aesthetics, hand carved decorative art from recycled doors, and wooden decorative panels from Indonesia. In the center of this hall is the first shared full bath which is original and in mint condition. The original butter cream and ivory checkerboard tiled shower and vanity brings you back to the 50’s, and also provided is a tiled shower over tub combo, a single porcelain sinked vanity, and a large opening window with a privacy shade.
The hallway is also ‘home’ to the linen cupboard with drawers and a closet. On the left side of this hallway is the second guest bedroom with a queen platform bed, more beautiful and original artwork, and also includes a curtained indoor laundry enclosure with a stacked new Electrolux HE frontloading washer and dryer combo. This room features a beautiful Italian-themed oil painting, as well as a very interesting Spanish Renaissance-styled painting of a lady hanging above the bed with a window looking out on the brand new spa and deck, with more beautiful views beyond.
Indoor access to the private Master Suite’s entry hall is through this second bedroom. This lovely Master is carpeted wall-to-wall but for the tile floored ensuite bathroom with single sinked vanity and large walk-in shower, providing easy access for those who do not want to step over the tub to shower. The Master Suite also has a comfy queen carved wooden sleigh bed with beautiful artwork above and lovely vanilla colored wainscoting from floor to ceiling. The Master Suite also has its own private outside entry/exit door which opens to a small private fenced courtyard; on through the gate and you can re-enter the home through the front door.
Our guests are also welcomed at Healdsburg’s premier Parkpoint Swim & Health Club with a heated lap pool, aqua aerobics pool, children’s pool, as well as all the workout equipment and exercise classes you can enjoy, and day passes are available for purchase.
The Dry Creek Vista is a wonderful and charming ‘home base’ for enjoying Healdsburg, the crown jewel of Sonoma County Wine Country, with its 3 wine growing regions, the Dry Creek, Alexander, and Russian River Valleys. Many more nearby activities are also available including canoeing, kayaking, or fishing on the Russian River, and the Lake Sonoma Recreation area with marina and boat rentals.
The Armstrong Old Growth Redwood Preserve is just about 30 minutes away, off River Road and on the way to the beautiful and rugged Sonoma Coast. With a day trip, you can also explore the Silverado Wine Trail through Calistoga to the city of Sonoma. With so much to see and do, you will want to spend as much time as you have, and come back again soon for more fun and relaxation!
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THAT ‘FAR AWAY FROM IT ALL’ FEELING AND YET CLOSE TO THE WINE COUNTRY ACTION OF HEALDSBURG, THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY. PLEASE COME AND ENJOY THIS VERY PRIVATE, TRANQUIL, AND CHARMING WINE COUNTRY COTTAGE WITH 50’S STYLE, QUALITY, AND ALL THE MODERN CONVENIENCES AS WELL!!!

Good time especially with the house
Good time especially with the house
The house was well equipped, well stocked and we really enjoyed a house instead of a hotel room to hang out when we weren't doing the wine tastings. Good location with the only negative is that Dry Creek is a pretty busy 2 lane road with a bit of road noise. Since the primary outside area is in front of the house (w/BBQ), it was a little distracting but not a huge deal. I hate to say since it was on the main road, it was also easy to navigate your way around so there is a benefit. We started with Jordan Winery and it was only a few miles away with some other good, fun places within a short drive. I would (and probably will) do this house again. The management company qas quite helpful and all we did was call when we arrived to make sure we could get in OK. All in all Life was good in Healdsburg.

Giving thanks for our Thanksgiving Vacation at Dry Creek
Giving thanks for our Thanksgiving Vacation at Dry Creek
We spent a fabulous vacation at the Dry Creek home over Thanksgiving 2011. The property was beautifully maintained and was just the right size for 2-4 people, but certainly big enough for 6. The kitchen was a gourmet cook's dream. All Cuisnart and Viking appliances, high quality cookware, knives, glasses, cutlery and dishes made preparing and serving meals a delight. Having a laundry room was a plus I wish I would have noticed in the description--I wouldn't have packed so many clothes! The proximity to the adorable and friendly town of Healdsburg and local vineyards couldn't be beat. We did venture as far as Calistoga and Napa wasn't much farther if you want to check it out as well--we opted to stay clear of the touristy areas. However, we found the local wineries perfect--and more than we could ever visit in 5 days. Birdsong Property Management was terrific to work with, answering our questions promptly and ensuring we got checked in and were cozy. We highly recommend the local restaurants, Scopa, Willis Seafood and Barndiva (terrific brunch), the Capture Gallery, Thumbprint Wines, the UNTI Vineyards, A. Rafanelli Winery (this small winery had the best Zin of any others in the area), Ridge Winery and a little further out Lancaster Estates and Storybook Winery. Also, a good stop is the Family Wineries just off of Dry Creek Road about 1/2 mile from the house with 5 or more choices all in one parking lot. Don't miss Big John's for great choices of cheese and meats and Costeaux French Bakery--also good for breakfast. All in all a perfect vacation--thank you to Elisabeth, Shante and Katie at Birdsong Property Management--we hope to be back!
