This studio apartment sits at the end of the main waterfront terrace of Villa Accetta, a splendid home with a private beach on the Gulf of Gaeta, halfway between Rome and Naples. Best of all, it's a family home, where the Accetta family live. We speak perfect English and Italian, thus there is always someone to offer assistance if needed. This apartment has a private entrance and a terrace right on the water. It sleeps up to four people on two sofa beds. The studio is located directly above the Roman ruins that can be seen in the sea right outside its window, or through a unique glass floor.

The full bathroom has a bathtub, a shower, a bidet and a washing machine). The kitchenette is fully equipped whether you are making a cup of coffee, or cooking a large meal. The generous, multi-level terrace offers chairs and a table just outside the door, and then lounge chairs and umbrella on the sea-front.

The villa and apartment have been painstakingly renovated with the comfort of guests in mind, and updated with 21st century luxuries.

Panoramic views of the medieval city of Gaeta float across the bay; on a clear day you can see Vesuvius, and the islands of Capri and Ischia in the distance.
TRANSPORTATION: City buses stop near the villa's gate about every 15 minutes, and take you into the heart of Old Gaeta or Formia in just minutes. The train station is only a 10 minute bus or taxi ride from the villa, and trains will take you to the heart of Rome or Naples in under an hour. Or, we have drivers who work with us who will take you just about anywhere you want to go, for a reasonable price.
BASE FOR EXPLORATION: Located halfway between Rome and Naples, the villa is also just an hour or so by train from Pompeii, or Herculaneum, or Capri, or the Amalfi coast, or the Abruzzi mountain ski slopes, or from the classical opera house of Teatro San Carlo in Naples. Driving directions are available, if you rent a car at the airport, or we can arrange to pick you up. We also can arrange day trips with several drivers who work with us.
MORE THAN TWO MILLENNIA OF HISTORY: If ancient ruins are of interest, Gaeta and the surrounding area have been occupied for nearly three millennia, most spectacularly by the patrician Roman elite who built their villas on the sea 2000 years ago. Called the Ulysses Coast, the area is studded with the remains of these villas. Ample ruins can be found right below the terraces of Villa Accetta, as the villa sits above Artacia Fons, the fresh-water spring mentioned by Virgil as the place where Aeneas found fresh water after months at sea. Sites and museums are plentiful along the coast, from Sperlonga to Gaeta and Formia and south to Minturno and Cumae, each of which can be reached by local bus.
FAMILY GATHERINGS Family groups can vacation together yet enjoy separate accommodations in our four apartments. Visitors can relax on the terrace or swim in the warm, clear Mediterranean from the private beach, or explore the ancient ruins that dot the landscape
EAT, DRINK, ENJOY Dozens of splendid restaurants in Gaeta or Formia offer seafood caught that afternoon, and served to you the same night. The local specialty is a unique, two crusted pizza called tiella. Fresh mozzarella di buffalo is available in many of the marketplaces, and is served in most of the restaurants. Gaeta has an outdoor market on Wednesday's and Formia's is on Thursday, where fresh vegetables, artisan cheeses, olives and olive oil are available. Gaeta has a daily fish market, where the catches of the day are offered for sale about 4 p.m., just in time for restaurant owners and home cooks to purchase delights from the sea and cook them for dinner.

The Ulysses Riviera is an area of great beauty and historical importance on the Mediterranean Sea about halfway between Rome and Naples. Many of the great patrician families of the Roman Empire had summer villas on this coast, and the wealthy families of Rome continue to escape the city to villas along the beaches and in the hills. The Gulf of Gaeta offers water sports galore, from swimming to sailing, snorkeling and sail-boarding. Or, if you choose, you can lie by the sea, soak up the sun, and relax. The two towns adjacent to the villa, Gaeta and Formia, offer excellent restaurants that serve seafood caught daily in the bay. The towns also have extensive Roman ruins to explore, along with medieval churches and the splendid Turk's Grotto on Monte Orlando. Rome and Naples are about an hour away by train, making Villa Accetta an excellent home base for exploration of the big cities and all their wonders, without having to deal with the traffic. The silvery clanks of the Aurunci Mountains climb steeply up from the shore behind the villa, and are home to a Provinical Park, in addition to several charming hill towns that make for good day trips. Just up the coast is Sperlonga, an ancient sea-front village with streets so tiny there are no cars allowed. Park at the base of the village and spend the day exploring, eating lunch and then walking down the splendid beach to the extensive ruins of one of the Emperor Tiberius' summer palaces.A well-stocked museum with spectacular statues and works of art from the villa sits beside the road above the ruins. Sperlonga and many of the surrounding hill towns may be reached in minutes by the bus that stops near the Villa's front gate.

About the owner: Welcome to the home where my family has lived for several generations. We recently completely remodeled Villa Accetta and divided it into a family home, with several rental apartments. We love to share the beauty of our terraces, gardens and private beach on the Gulf of Gaeta with guests from around the world.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment: The beauty and bounty of the sea that sits beyond our windows was what attracted my family to the villa many generations ago. There is nothing quite like sitting on your own terrace and watching the changing face of the Mediterranean Sea. We are also an easy daytrip to Rome or Naples, and we love to share the knowledge that only years of living in an area can bring.
