    • We are located in Vezac, 5km from Sarlat which is a Unesco World Heritage site. Vezac is in the middle of the 'Valley of the 5 Chateaux'. We highly recommend La Roc Gageac, a prehistoric and medeival town built into the rock by the Dordogne river. Domme, a fortress town with far reaching views over the valley. The formal gardens at Marqueyssac are in Vezac itself and during the summer have a very popular candlelit evening walk. The medieval castles of Castelnaud and Beynac have a history steeped in the 100 years war between the English and the French. Sarlat itself is renowned for one of the best markets in the region. Food is on Wednesday mornings and all day on Saturday there are many regional handicrafts as well as food and the truffle market. In the evening there are many restaurants offering french cuisine to suit all budgets and in the summer months there are many free entertainments such as musicians, street entertainers or simply soaking up the atmosphere. Further afield is the Prehistoric Museum at Les Eyzies, half an hour away and the World Famous Lascaux Caves are an hour to the north. The Perigord region is studded with many attractions which reflect it's prehistoric to medieval past, such as the grotto 'Gouffre de Padirac' which can be explored by boat. Chateau Milandes was home to a famous resident: Josephine Baker, the entertainer turned French resistance heroine, later honoured by General de Gaulle with the 'legion d'honneur'. For the more actively inclined, there is canoing along the Dordogne and Vezere rivers, Horse-riding, cycling (the Tour de France passed through the region in 2007, but you can go at a more leisurely pace!) Whether it's relaxing in the sun with a bottle of wine, a baguette and some foie gras on the terrace or exploring the numerous attractions of the region, there is a holiday here for every taste.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

We are a French speaking young British couple who have renovated a stone cottage in the beautiful Dordogne countryside. We used to have traditional jobs in the UK (Finance and IT) and then took the opportunity to downshift and live the simple life in rural france. The pace of life and the french culture is fantastic and we take great pleasure in old fashioned activities like growing our own vegetables, baking bread, chopping logs for the fire and touring france in our caravan.

Why the Owner Chose Sarlat-la-Canéda

We live in the attached cottage and we feel very fortunate to live year round in an area where people vacation and love cycling, walking, canoing, enjoying the local restaurants and numerous activities which we are happy to share with our many visitors to our gite.

The Unique Benefits of this Cottage

We are placed in close proximity to many of the premier tourist spots in the region so we always have beautiful views, no matter what direction we drive in from the cottage. We have loved meeting our gite clients, who have always been very friendly, adventurous folk from all parts of the the globe.

"Authentic period property in the Dordogne" Steve and Enasha were very welcoming and helpful. The property exceeded my expectations. It was very quiet and private in a charmingly restored donkey barn and pigsty in a tiny hamlet. Yet still within 5 km of civilization.

"A warm welcome, a perfect setting" Especially for those whose French is "rusty," Enasha & Steve's little gite is a fine choice. The hosts are very helpful with reservations and suggestions, without ever impinging on the privacy of the guests. The gite is perfectly located, just a short distance from the major sights of Perigord Noir, and features beautiful walks out of the private back gate.

My husband and I had a wonderful holiday in the Dordogne and our accommodation at this wonderful gite made it all the more special. I would happily recommend it to anyone wanting some comfort and peace and quiet in an idyllic part of the world. The gite had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. It was lovely to be able to BBQ in September as well. The owners were also really helpful in suggesting places to visit and good restaurants to eat at in the local town, Sarlat. We also took our bikes with us and the owner recommended some brilliant routes for us to take. There was also plenty of literature in the gite for us to refer to. The area where the gite is situated has so much to offer. Visiting all the castles and canoeing on the river were particular highlights! Bonnes vacances!

We wanted to stay somewhere that was peaceful and quiet, yet had beautiful views and was accessible to the nearby town (Sarlat)! The gite is quite small and compact but has been well thought out and offers everything you might need (including an internet connection!). It has recently been finished and very is clean and tidy. Steve (Enasha was away) was very welcoming and friendly and happy to give advice on places to visit and eat. There is so much to do and see in the area that we were spoilt for choice. We have been raving to our friends and family about it since we got home a few weeks ago and will definitely be booking again next year. A perfect place to get away from the rigor of England.

Our four days staying at Stone cottage was very convenient a short distance from Salat and a base for seeing other attractions in our car.The kitchen, bathroom and toilet are downstairs and the bedroom is upstairs...the stairs are steep so I always hung on to the rail. Because the weather was fine we ate at the table which was outside. The furniture may need to be reorganised if it rained and we had to eat inside. The cooking facilities included a jug, coffee maker, one hot plate and microwave and a suitable fridge.Enasha's washing machine was available for washing a few things. We found everything to be clean and welcoming. It has been newly renovated. Steve and Enasha are lovely warm hosts and are able to speak english and french. Thanks for all your help with directions to towns. Steve is currently building a swimming pool and has ideas for a room outside for the barbecue etc. The cottage accomodates two people but would be a bit tight for anymore.Steve and Enasha are receptive to any suggestions. Thanks Steve for racing down the hill on your bike to meet us on the main road when we couldn't find the road to your house...make a sign "Stone Cottage "

The location of this place is absolutely wonderful: perfectly centered for all exploration of the Dordogne. Furthermore the facilities are comfortable, cozy, and it's a great place to return to after a long day of exploring.

We stayed two weeks in the Sarlat area to do painting and sightseeing. Steve and Enasha (property owners) maintain a comfortable and convenient gite which is only 5 minute drive to Sarlat. Castles, formal gardens, and easy hikes are within 5-10 minutes. Steve and Enasha are on site which made getting information about the area very easy. We really enjoyed our stay there and will return for other stays.

We recently had 4 nights with Steve and Enasha at their beautiful cottage and had a wonderful stay. Sarlat is a vibrant and lively town and only a 10 minute drive from the cottage, the magnificent Dordogne region only a 20 minute drive. The cottage is wonderful, very comfortable and clean with everything required for a self catering stay. Steve and Enasha were very welcoming, friendly and gave us many tips as to places to visit and were always very keen to answer any questions we had regarding our booking. For couples who want to explore this region of France, we would highly recommend this cottage as a wonderful base.
