Relax on the deck as you listen to the loons call across the lake and then paddle out to spy on the eagle fishing on the opposite shore. Refresh yourself with a swim, a hike in the woods above the house or a bike ride along the country roads.
Inside the pine panelled cabin feels cozy and welcoming. Prepare a meal in the fully equipped kitchen and eat in the dining room or grill your freshly caught fish outdoors and enjoy your meal on the deck. Curl up in front of the woodstove on cool evenings while you read, listen to music on the stereo and enjoy the moonlight flitering through the trees.
For your comfort, the antique oak bed in the downstairs bedroom has a full sized Tempurpedic mattress and plenty of closet space. Other guests can choose from two sofa beds in the main room. The bath has a full sized tub and shower.

"We enjoyed our stay in this very basic cabin, but our first impressions were not good. There was a strong musty smell and it needed all the windows to be open for a couple of hours before it cleared. We had contacted the owner a few weeks before our stay as we were concerned about negative reviews made in June and July. She reassured us that all was well, but in October the fridge was still full of opened and mouldy food and the cupboard had food in it dated as far back as 2006, and, as there were no trash disposal facilities, we couldn't get rid of it. The toaster/grill was still filthy and unusable, and the whole cabin could do with a really good clean. However, it is in a lovely setting. The bed is clean and very comfortable, the kitchen and bathroom are OK and the lounge/dining area is fine. We appreciate that the owner lives a long way away and can't keep a day-to-day eye on the cabin, but the cleaning issue does need urgent attention."

Owner response: For all the years that I have been renting my cabin, this is the first time I have received feedback regarding the condition of housekeeping. Apparently the person hired to clean my property this year has not been consistently following my instructions nor earning their pay. This problem will be corrected for tenants in the coming season and dependable professionals will take over caretaking.

Weekend Get Away
Rented this cabin for my Homecoming at Norwich. I enjoyed the solitude I had at the cabin. If you are looking for a place to escape the world it is here. The lake was a walk away. If you are looking for a fancy retreat then this is not the place, but if you are looking to escape the fast pace world this is the place for you. I enjoyed the fact that I had no TV and my cell service did not work ( not due to the owners, just couldn't get service anywhere in Vermont). I would definitely come back. The town was 12 miles away and an easy drive. For those that will rent in the future the only advice I give you is to have an SUV or truck, because it is on a dirt road. I was lucky to have rented an SUV, because it would have been rough trying to get to the house in a regular car.

Lake is almost totally screened by hemlocks. Bedroom is a musty dungeon. Frigo was loaded w detritus. Carpet, although clean, is a late '70s double-wide green w black checks. Plaster work is a slap dash scallop job. Grill was filthy and unusable. Pathetic. We almost left upon arrival, but Montpelier and the Groton State Forest gave us repite.

A great spot
A great spot
Peaceful, pleasant, everything the owners say it is. The pond is wonderful, and there are endless dirt roads for walking and biking. We are definitely going back!

Cabin in Vermont Review
Cabin in Vermont Review
Unfortunately, this cabin does not reflect our expectations based upon the description. First, the lake is fantastic, clear and clean and there are Loons and other wildlife to see. The cabin, however, was another story. Most of the issues I had with the cabin could be cured with some elbow grease. The guest should be made aware the much of the drive to the cabin is on dirt roads and the last bit up the driveway certainly is easier if you are in a 4 wheel drive or pick up. There is no view of the lake from the cabin as the trees and vegetation around the cabin have not been well maintained. Although it looks like at one time the grounds were well cared for with a number of flowers planted around the area. The grass had not been cut in some time and the flowers left to fend for themselves. Most of the grounds were overgrown and so infested with insects that you could not sit outside. This was not too much of a problem in that there is nothing to see outside as there are trees and vegetation overgrown all around the cabin. The best access to the lake is to drive down the driveway and over to the public access area on the lake. Easy access from there. There is no access from cabin except for a steep incline. The cabin itself was dirty; there were leaves on the floor; if you are looking to go truly rustic this is the place with no TV, lots of mold especially in the basement where the bedroom is located. Half of the basement is devoted to managing the household waste and the odor is not really very attractive. This was not a good experience for me except for the lake which was superb. If I could find another place to stay on the lake I would certainly return. The cabin, unless the owner gets whoever is cleaning and maintaining to do a better job...forgettaboutit!

A few nice days on Number 10 Pond
This is a pleasant, clean camp with a nice deck that looks over the pond. It's a quiet spot, all of the appliances work well and the WiFi is great.

About the owner: We lived in Vermont for 30+ years before moving away and still feel attached to the community. Our families live nearby, so we love to come and visit summer, fall and winter. We like the active outdoor life in Vermont as it provides a contrast to our current city living.
Why the Owner Chose Montpelier:
After living in town for a long time, we chose Mirror Lake because of its incredible beauty. We use the cabin when we can get away to see family and friends and to de-compress from our very busy life. We enjoy the natural beauty of the setting and the fact that there are very few houses around the lake, making it quite unique as a getaway spot.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin feels secluded while at the same time is only a short drive to Montpelier were there is a surprisingly active cultural life. You can find a Farmer's Market during the spring, summer, and fall almost any day of the week in nearby communities, as well as cute shops, bookstores, live theater, arts & crafts galleries, movies and some really good restaurants. St. Johnsbury has a planetarium in the natural history museum. Montreal is a 2 1/2 hour drive, making an overnight trip for the Jazz Festival a real treat.
