We had a wonderful time on Peaks Island staying at this property. My husband and I came up on Sunday with our 16 month old daughter and spent the next few days playing at the beach (a literal walk across the street; and a perfect beach for little ones), walking around the island, going out for ice cream, BBQing, and visiting Portland via ferry (especially loved the produce market right near the ferry). The island was quiet and folks were friendly. Then our parents came up for the last half of the week and we had more of the same: beach, cooking, walking, and time in Portland. It was so easy to get to Portland if you wanted to do some shopping or fine dining (or even the Children's Museum if fine dining is out of the question!), but there was enough relaxation to be had on Peaks. We attended a wedding at the end of the week (the original reason for this vacation) and all in all we had an amazing time. The house was all we could have hoped: clean, comfortable, newer kitchen, washer/dryer, and well-stocked for amenities -- I hope to come back again and again. We were nervous about travel with a 16 month old but the house was all we needed: plenty of space for her and her toys, a great yard to run around in, and most importantly, very easy access to the beach. We never even had to go to the nearby playground or library, but it was good to know they were there if we needed it. We also never rented or rode bikes, but they were in abundance and we would likely do that next time. Fortunately our daughter took a strong liking to the beach so that is where we spent most of our time! I can't recommend this property and Peaks Island enough; the owners spent a good amount of time with us when we arrived and answered all questions (and even dragged out the hose for us to hook up a sprinkler for our daughter) and left a thorough and friendly list of things to know about staying at the house. They were knowledgeable, kind and easily accessible. All in all, we had the best first vacation with a toddler we could have imagined!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: We're so glad that you had a good time! Hope to see you in coming years!

We enjoyed our stay at this cottage on Peak's Island. The deck was a wonderful gathering place for our family members. The bedrooms were accommodating and the kitchen was very equipped with great pots, pans and dishes. It was also handy to have the dishwasher and washer/dryer. The Myer family does a great job making your stay comfortable and enjoyable.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Glad it worked out so well for your daughter's wedding!

My family stayed here for my niece's wedding. My husband and I and 5 of our children slept very comfortably. We enjoyed our coffee on front porch while watching the many walkers and bikers pass by everyday. The home is a 2 minute walk to beach and waterfront and 10-15 minute walk to dowtown. The best part was that we were ON the island for my niece's "Inn at Peak's Island Wedding" rather than in Portland. We were able to run along Seashore Drive every morning and enjoy the views of the ocean. We would rent this cottage again if my niece needs help when the little ones arrive someday. Highly recommended!!!Recommended for: Families with young children.
Owner response: We couldn't agree more! We enjoyed spending every summer with our children at the cottage. Glad we were able to share the experience!

Why the Owner Chose Peaks Island:
Our family has summered on Peaks Island for 5 generations. We couldn't imagine raising children without giving them that unique experience of summers on an island in Maine.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our home is close to both the TEIA yacht and tennis club as well as the sandy beaches and the village. The island is great for biking, walking and jogging. It's the way life should be!
