Owner info
Year Purchased: 1988
About the owner: I am a realtor in Northeast Harbor. I spend part of the year in a more southern location but love Maine in all seasons. This house is a very relaxing retreat and is as wonderful in the brillant sunny weather of summer as it is on a snowy winter day. Antiques are a love of mine and I have enjoyed collecting Maine related items over the years to furnish and decorate the house.
Why the Owner Chose Northeast Harbor:
My family and I have enjoyed Northeast Harbor since we first visted in 1982 and decided to make this our summer place. We soon bought a property and built this post and beam home in 1988. My three sons and I have spent summers outdoors boating, hiking, biking, playing tennis and golf, exploring Acadia and the outer islands and just spending time with friends. Maine is a special place and Acadia National Park and Northeast Harbor are the most special of all. Acadia National Park and the entire Downeast area offer endless opportunities for things to do and places to explore. In addition, there are great restaurants, farmer's markets, fairs, garden tours, antique shows and happenings all over MDI and other nearby areas.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is extremely comfortable for a couple, a group or a family. I enjoy sitting by the fire with a glass of wine and reading or having some friends in for lobster or a casual meal. For walkers, hikers and bikers the possibilities are endless, uncrowded and all close at hand.. The Village of Northeast Harbor is an easy and enjoyable 5 minute walk for morning coffee and the paper or to go shopping at the wonderful boutiques and shops. Our town offers exceptional amenities like a fabulous library, a neighborhood house with exercise classes and fitness center. The town dock with ferries to outer islands is a short walk or bike ride as is the free Island Explorer bus line which stops right in town. (This bus line goes all over Mount Desert Island and can accomodate a bike) Acadia National Park abuts the town and offers a myriad of hiking and biking trails of all levels of difficulty, carriage roads, as well as scenic drives and stops. Jordan Pond House is a favorite destination for afternoon popovers and tea and can be reached by a walk by car or the bus.. Asticou and Thuya gardens are a must for garden lovers with some spectacular views from the Thuya garden trail. Ponds and lakes for swimming, kayaking or canoeing are a short drive away.
