We are located in the heart of Gascony - for some of you, Gascony is the tale of d'Artagnan and the 3 musketeers, but for those of us lucky enough to have found this beautiful and yet, truly unspoiled/non-touristic part of southwest France, it is paradise...a region full of magnificent natural surroundings, chateaux, bastides, rolling hills, sunflowers, friendly people, and of course the Gascon cuisine, wines and armagnac! It leaves you with a feeling of wellbeing...that life has rolled on unruffled since d'Artaganan was a kid!

-Looking for something to do? Nearby villages: Chateau and wine tours-armagnac chai's, foie gras and pate artisans, gaming casino, farmers markets, try your hand at pentanque (Gasconne lawn bowling) visit village fetes or festivals, boutique shopping, antique/brocante hopping, and of course...the gastronomic delights of our local restaurants!
A bit further...: The beachs, Bordeaux (has the largest non-vehicle shoppng street in europe!), Toulouse-le ville en rose-such a fascinating city! Oh, and our favorite-The Pyrenees Mountains! We love going for a hike for the day during the spring summer, and every winter drive up with the family for a day ski! We have the best of everything at affordable prices!

The Home: The Lake Cottage is a comfortable place with open loft spaces and large barn windows to let the sunlight flood in. The bedrooms have comfortable beds with crisp linens and fluffy douvets, barn windows providing great views, solid wood floors from the area, with selections from local brocante/antique shops to give the cottage a 'french-country chic' look. All 3 bedrooms are upstairs.
On the main floor is the living space with a large cozy couch, book & DVD library, TV, stereo system and iPod dock. The dining area has views of the east lawn through the large glass french doors. The large farmhouse table has space for 6 hungry guests, and the kitchen just nearby is well equipped for the task! There is a large gas stove and double oven, microwave, dishwasher, Senseo coffee machine, toaster etc. and lots of counter-top space and cabinets! The bathroom has double sinks with an oak counter top and cabinet space, toilet, italian pebble floor, jet shower, and towel warmer. Under the stairs is the laundry area with washing machine and shelves with cleaning products. The wood stove provides ample heat for autumn or winter visitors taking advantage of the proximity of the slopes if just going for the day.

Wether you want to do all and see all, or just be totally stress free and relaxed, its even better knowing you can just sit on the terrace, a glass of wine in hand, while watching the geese fly over the lake, or seeing the kids run by as they explore the forest...the BBQ sizzling...this is it.. the Lake Cottage in Gascony Southwest France!

** We are very proud to announce that our NEW GYM is finished and ready for guests to enjoy the treadmills, stairmaster, freeweights and barbells!

Excellent stay spent in the cozy house Bouillin, pierced by bad passing of auto problems to arrive, it was nice to relax and read in front of the warm soothing fire. Beautiful walks in the woods with autumn colors. swimming was good at Saint Jean de Luz. lots of mushrooms and chestnuts found in the forest, the area is superb!

We enjoyed a wonderful week at the end of October with Jodi and Jim being exceptionally welcoming and helpful hosts. The gite itself is charming, very newly renovated, and renovated with attention to detail and comfort. It is exceptionally well equipped and ideally located for exploring the Armagnac region of Gascony. The lake view is spectacular, the gite is comfortable, the hosts are wonderful, and the region begs exploration. We also spent a day driving to St. Jean de Luz and also explored several Basque villages in the far southwest near the sea. There are numerous small, interesting villages in the region and the food is excellent. All in all it was a great week and we would certainly book here again if our travels bring us back to Gascony.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Carefully read the property description - this is your opportunity to absolutely get away from it all. This is a beautiful retreat from the noise and activity of a hectic life. We live in a quiet neighborhood in Florida, yet really noticed the "noise" when we returned (fans and A/C) and the lack of bird sounds throughout the day! At the cottage you will awaken to the sound of ducks and geese in the lake, and can indulge in the fresh, cool air of the morning. Jodi is a wonderful host, and offerred fresh tomatoes, eggs and walnuts right from her yard - try the yellow cherry tomatoes for a surprising burst of flavor. And since the Lake Cottage used to be where foie gras was made, you must try the best of the best, just 4 Km north, off the road to Eauze, at Ferme Maunet. The self-guided tour around the farm is quite informational if you can read French, and the owner is a hoot! Check out the Barbaton TI for local events and free concerts (village is filled with residents who are doing a "cure"); and Cauzebon for a neat picnic in the flower-filled park and the best baquette and pastry ever at the FP bakery on the right of the main square (open Sundays). Get on the Voie Verte (Rails to Trails) either behind the Notre Dame de Cyclistes for a nice 50-minute walk to Labastide d'Armagnac for lunch at the the crepery, or a stroll through active farmland from just above the Porte de Ville and the huge Barbotan thermal bath house (1 Km up the road to Les Mousketieres). Save your driving for the daytime - the one lane (or less) country roads through cornfields higher than the car can be a bit dangerous at night, especially with locals who know where they are going! GPS does give some not-so-obvious shortcuts through tiny villages, despite wanting to take us directly through a cornfield on the way to the cottage from the nearest road. So enjoy the sunset while gently swinging on the hammock looking over the lake and decompress watching the tree leaves flicker in the late afternoon breeze ...

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car.

Owner response: Thanks for the review you two! It was such a pleasure having you at the Cottage! I have to admit, Ive learned a couple of new trails and places to visit from you! What adventurists! I hope you can come back and visit some time!

This is my favorite place. I have been there two times and plan to go again in 2012. I love the feeling of the this part of france and this home. It is Very comfortable. The kitchen is have all upgraded appliances. The Lake is beautiful to wake up to with in the morning for a long walk. One of my favorite things is a bon fire at night to gaze at the millions of stars. We have been to the local villages that have such wonderful things to buy fresh produce, yummy pastries, clothes, soaps & flowers. Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: 'We have found the perfect, most magical place ever! ' Thats what we like hearing from our guests, although sometimes, it's said in dutch, spanish or even french! Jodi (your hostess) has been in the 'gite' business for about 5 years, and loves it. 'As a retired firefighter from Miami, being here in France with my husband and kids was just what I needed...to relax, and tackle a new adventurous project! ' Jodi and Jim have 2 vacation homes for guests to enjoy and come back to year after year! 'This is good.... I can relax and enjoy 'la bonne vie' with family, friends and guests, (whom usually turn out as friends too! )

              Why the Owner Chose Creon-dArmagnac:
We were very lucky to find this lost-in-time, rural part of SW France, where the people are friendly, the landscape is stunning, the food is amazing, and the air is pure. The history and beauty of this area never ceases to amaze me, we're always exploring new villages and restaurants, enjoying the festivals and brocantes... I can't believe its been 9 years!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Just 6 minutes drive from us is a spa village with a large lake that has surveyed swimming and games, playground, picnic areas, large pool, sailing, rowing, paddle-boating, tennis and a snack bar. Our prices are affordable because we simply want folks to have a good time! If my family cant afford to stay at our cottage, then its too much! The kids can run around outside and 'be kids' and adults have time to relax, and de-stress.. its good for the soul! Seeking a bit of adventure? Agen has an adventure park called Walibi-beware of the wild rollercoaster! 1 1/2 to 2 hours drive are the beach's! Beautiful dunes and small beach villages are quite special. The Pyrenees Mountains! You dont have to be an expert climber to enjoy a great day in the mountains-the views are stunning-and you might be lucky enough to pass the local cows and horses grazing freely along the trails! Visit Basque villages such as Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the tiny harbor village rich in history and dotted with botiques and restaurants where the food will not disappoint! For a vacation that is natural, relaxing, traditional...well just different and extraordinary, I think the Lake Cottage in Gascony is the place to be!
