This lovely house was a perfect getaway just 2 hours from downtown Portland for three families. From the easy river access, to the beautiful grounds (it was a constant stream of exclamations -- Orchards! Vinyeards! Chickens! Wild turkeys!), it was the perfect getaway. We had such a good time, we didn't mind that the fish weren't biting. The Pinot Gris made by the owner was excellent, too!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1990
About the owner: I am a winemaker in the Santa Ynez Valley of California. I source grapes from this property for one of my wines that I make under my label, Margerum. For more information about the property, me and the wines, Google margerumwinecompany
Why the Owner Chose Lyle:
We bought this property a number of years ago because we enjoy being outside and having space for the kids and dogs to enjoy nature. Also, I was interested in growing grapes in this area. Margerum Ranch Vineyard is dedicated to growing and producing world class Pinot Gris from our estate vineyard. The wine is labeled KLICKITAT and it has a jumping steelhead on the label.
Our vineyard property is composed of 100% red basalt soil composition resulting in low yielding vines that produce intense flavors and layers of complexity. The Klickitat River runs through the property reflecting sunlight and moderating the temperature - cooling warm days and warming cold nights. The climate at our vineyard is marginal at best; Margerum Ranch Vineyard is on the edge of where vinifera can be successfully grown. Pinot Gris, the earliest ripening varietal in the vinifera group is the only grape will actually grow and mature.
