Tuscan Villa on 10 Acres Near Hood River W/ Spectacular Views
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Looking for a sunny getaway that is only an hour and fifteen minutes from Portland, yet feels like it is miles away in Tuscany instead of on the Columbia River?
We have your perfect getaway in the foothills just five miles from downtown Hood River in the sleepy town of Mosier.
Imagine sipping a lemonade or glass of wine on a large deck overlooking vineyards and orchards at sunset or star gazing at the spectacular night sky!
Enjoy your Hood River vacation in this fairly new custom, energy efficient 3,000 square foot home (naturally cool in the summer and warm in the winter). The heated floors, solid wood doors, stone countertops in the gourmet kitchen, wood fireplace, marble showers and venetian plaster and hand-painted armoires will make you feel like you're in an Italian villa with all of the modern conveniences like WiFi and big screen TV in the media room.
Everything is here to make your Columbia Gorge Vacation a retreat you'll want to come back to often!
This Columbia Gorge vacation home is situated on 10 acres with views of our own small Sangiovese vineyard as well as surrounding vineyards, flower farm, and cherry orchards. You can soak up the views with the floor to ceiling windows in the great room, outside from the large deck or under the big oak tree on the back patio as you grill on the barbecue.
There is a seasonal creek that flows through the property and brings a variety of wildlife - elk, deer, bunnies, mink, lynx, to name a few!
For the hiker, there are miles of trails surrounding the home. For the wine lover, there are many wineries in the area to visit and taste. For the nature lover, there are many beautiful vistas to feast your eyes.
Whether you spend a week or just a weekend, you're sure to go home relaxed and revived!
Eco-friendly and special:
The focus in building this home was to provide a very private getaway that is energy efficient and uses as many natural and recycled materials as possible. The walls are actually made of recycled Styrofoam and cement formed into very large concrete blocks (Rastra Block) – this gives the house super insulation (R Factor 50 versus the normal 25).
Many materials came from Mosier – the ceiling in the great room is reclaimed lumber from the original farm house that was part of a large cherry orchard that encompassed our 10 acres and 100 acres of the surrounding farms and land parcels. The brick on the steps was part of an old church in town.
While the kitchen cabinets don’t look recycled (they are custom made Rutt cabinets) they are - they were bought on Ebay and repainted. The front door is from the Philippines and is made from recycled railroad ties. The armoires in the bedrooms and the powder room are from Thailand – made from recycled wood and iron gates. The coffee table is an old wagon wheel.
The water is well water coming from our own well 600 feet below ground – nice and fresh after the volcanic rocks filter it!

Our three generation family was able to "cook up a storm", read and play games in the "great room" by the fireplace, and simply enjoy being together. There were great views and private places to get away. The place was exactly as described, extremely comfortable and well equipped with anything we might need. Britta even put up a 9 ft decorated Christmas tree. We feel as if we landed in the perfect place for the holidays.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, age 55+.

An incredibly reasonable rate for a beautiful, serene location, highest quality accommodations, and many thoughtful personal touches---this is one of the nicest homes we have ever rented through VRBO, and if that wasn't enough, the owners could not be more friendly and helpful. The house is designed for adult sensibilities, but is perfectly appropriate for children, and will delight everyone. We found it immaculate and perfectly arranged for comfort and privacy. The kitchen was open, modern, and well stocked. The beds were lovely and the bathrooms spa-quality. The views were amazing, and the grounds a perfect blend of rustic and landscaped. If you are not familiar with Mosier, it is a terrific little community just a quick 5 mile drive east of Hood River, allowing you quick access to all the fun things that that town has to offer, plus the slower, quirkier pace of Mosier as well, and your own little piece of heaven just 10 easy minutes from there. Among other things, Mosier has a top-notch pub/restaurant, a beautiful new winery, an ice cream shop, a great little coffee house, and a surprisingly well-stocked market for all of your last-minute needs. Perfect, perfect, perfect!Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

90 minutes from your door in Portland to a lovely little world apart. The house manages to be spacious but cozy, high tech and classic, close to the action yet removed and serene. Gorgeous, long view from large windows, down a creek bed with large geologic features of the gorge in the background. Not far from Hood River amenities, but the great room with splendid view, kitchen, living area, grand stairway, and fireplace is perfect place to prepare meals and hang out with your best friends. Accurate description/photos, everything works, helpful owners, spic and span. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.
