"Pelican's Nest" is one of the best ocean front views on the Central Oregon Coast. The second floor, unobstructed, bird's eye view takes in magnificent Cape Perpetua and The Yachats Bay and River to the south with stunning white water scenes of the rocky shoreline to the west. Storms do not sneak up on the guests at the "Nest." They are eagerly awaited as you track them across the Pacific from the comfort of the sofa. And they arrive with a force that makes winter one of our most popular seasons. Nothing tops the thrill of a cozy fire, a satisfying beverage, and the company of your special someone as the weather blows near.

The village of Yachats is a quaint and picturesque small town located near many popular attractions. Fishing, crabbing, hiking, golf and, of course, site seeing are all easily available. Bicycles are kept on site for perusing the village. Eateries are within walking distance, and shopping, including groceries are just minutes from your door. Terrific agate hunting on the beach right in front of the Nest. The 804 Trail wanders from north of town, along the ocean, and takes to the neighborhoods as it passes in front of the Nest, heading south along the bay and water's edge.

The Nest has a fully equipped kitchen, king in the bedroom, and pull out twins in the living room. There is an additional sleeping area available that accommodates up to four for larger groups for an additional fee. The bathroom has a shower/bathtub and lots of storage. Laundry is coin operated and is on site.

We had a relaxing and comfortable time during our short 3 day stay in Yachats. The views during a storm at the Pelican's Nest is great. Paying and confirming reservations was a breeze. Cleaning the apartment upon leaving is a great idea so as to keep costs lower (I got $30 back). And like others, we brought out own sheets and towels so as to avoid having to do laundry. We ate at Luna's and got an exotic coffee at the Green Salmon. We also made a trip down to Florence and ate at the casino buffet which had the best clam chowder I have ever had. Also, the buffet admission gives you $14 each of complimentary slot play. We are not gamblers, but since it was free, we tried out some slot machines for the first time and ended up winning enough to cover the cost of the meal. I would love to return to this apartment in the future.

Owner response: Thanks Kerry for the great review. You found two of our favorite places in Yachats. We usually get into town late, so we order fish and salad from Luna's and eat in the unit. They serve a great breakfast too. So glad that you included us in your vacation plans. Hope to see you in the future. Regards, Jim and Gloria

Excellent location. Awesome views. Reasonably priced. Responsive owners. Comfortable accommodations. Hope to go back in the future. Great trails. Midway between Florence and Newport. Easy to take advantage of tourist experience there but nice to return to an area where you can relax and walk to wherever you wish to go in town.

Wonderful Location! Very nice furnishings & decor. Dings : No rental Number on instructions. Had to try key code on three other apartments before we found the right one. NOT clear that NO Toliet Paper would be furnished! VERY BAD overlook - contract does state "no paper products furnished" - well, I certainly didn't think about toilet paper with that statement. Kinda cheap making paying guests pay to wash their own bedding & towels - at least -if we have to clean the place - furnish free washer & dryer.

Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Owner response: Thank you for the kind comments about Pelican's Nest. Sorry for the confusion as to which apartment was yours. That information is included in the contract, and again with the lock box code. We apparently need to to make it more obvious on those documents. We do understand that our policies for cleaning and paper products do not fit everyone. However, our very reasonable rates are a direct reflection of our success with these arrangements. Our guests are happy to help us keep costs down, because of course, it is a direct benefit to them. We always appreciate our guests' opinions, and we thank you for your candor.

Cute, comfortable one bedroom and bath apartment with gorgeous ocean views. We loved the town of Yachats and the owners were very nice to work with and helpful about the area. The full time tenants in the other apartments were quiet and very friendly. I highly reccommend staying here.

The views are breath taking and beautiful, especially the sunsets. The apartment was nicer and cleaner than expected and a ocean view from every window. At night the sound of the ocean waves made sleeping easy and relaxing. The neighbors and town folk were very nice and friendly. Great breakfast at the Adobe with ocean front views. My sons and I had a fantastic time and will surely be back. thanks Jim and Gloria.

I chose to celebrate my birthday by treating my mom, dad, and sister to a weekend on the Oregon coast, and for the venue I I wanted to find a place that was a bit out of our normal routine. Thanks to VRBO and Jim and Gloria, I found the Pelican's Nest, and it was wonderful! The Yachat beach is rocky and butts up against about a 30 ft cliff, topped by Beach street. The Nest was directly across the street with nothing between the ocean and the windows but glass. While there was a flatscreen tv in the corner of the room, we only turned it on to watch a movie (chosen from a nicely comprehensive selection of house dvds) after the sun set, because it was the ocean chanel on all 6 huge windows the rest of the time. If brightness makes you squint I do recommend sun glasses because the glare off the ocean did make it very bright inside. The provided two pairs of binoculars and the spotting scope made watching the ocean (and its assorted wildlife including pelicans, cormorans, we never saw a whale but that was our poor timing rather than lack of potential, brave surfers, trawlers) quite interactive and fun. The wifi was easy to access and came in handy, and the listing was very accurate concerning beds/bedding and kitchen supplies. I had been somewhat apprehensive about cleaning, but we walked into a place cleaner than some hotels in which I have stayed, and with all four of us helping out we knocked out the check-out cleaning before the laundry finished. But do be aware, it does take 8 quarters to wash 1 load; I forgot about that, but the clerks at the market (2 blocks away) were happy to trade dollars for quarters so all was well. The ping-pong table in the garage was fun (and there were an eclectic collection of paddles and balls while we were there) and the grill was in there as promised. I do wish the ocean-side deck was accessable from the rooms, but it was just as nice being inside with the windows open as it would have been outside. Things to do in Yachats: The ocean walking path is great for a run. The Green Salmon cafe is a must! Try the green tea hot chocolate and a bearclaw. The Village Bean at the other end of town was a cute little kiosk and their chai selection was impressive. Luna's seafood joint did a wonderful chowder and fish/chips. Karaoke at the Underground Pub and Grub! Favorite sushi place is Yuzen in Seal Rock. On the way stop in Waldport at the bridge historical center, amazing history. The Nest was the perfect home away from home!

I don't normally take the time to do these, but the Pelican's Nest was wonderful, clean, and wow - what a view. The listing was accurate and the owner was very reponsive to any questions that I had. I would definetly reccomend this to anyone who wants a place that is close to the ocean, has a fantastic view, and is clean.

              Why the Owner Chose Yachats:
We have been visiting Yachats since the 1980's and simply fell in love with the village. No fast food, no big box stores, no schools, and mostly retired, laid back folks. Great Community Center, Library, and eating establishments. When the opportunity for purchasing property came up, we jumped at the chance. Many years and remodels later, we are still in love with Yachats. Truely, The Gem of the Oregon Coast!
