Nestled among the native rhododendrons and dogwoods of the Appalachian Mountains sets this unique little cabin. Built in the early 1970’s, it is one of the original lakefront homes on Lake Lure. It is truly an exceptional find in that it is set on a 14-acre estate at the head of Sunset Cove. Also, it is built partially out over the water, which allows an unobstructed view from the porch directly down the cove to the main channel, Chimney Rock, and most importantly the sun setting over the mountains. It is one of the finest views on the lake.

Let us take you back to the earlier, unhurried days of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge area. Leave the busy life behind and return to the days of real relaxation and rest. You can lounge on the deck in the warm summer sun reading a good book, fish from the dock as the water licks at your feet, swim in the cool refreshing water, go kayaking down the cove, or just sit and watch the sun sparkle and move across the water and then sink behind the mountains.

In its own right, our cabin and dock/bridge are famous - if you're a movie buff. In 1983, several scenes from the movie, Firestarter, were filmed on the property. The most memorable being when Charlie and her dad were captured by 'the Shop' while crossing our very own dock. The film featured an all-star cast with Drew Berrymore, Martin Sheen, & George C. Scott.

The dock/bridge mentioned above extends all the way across the end of the cove(approx. 100 feet)and is truly unique. We added a picnic area with custom made adirondack chairs. The entire bridge is ideal for the fishing enthusiast. Two Sea Otter kayaks are on hand as well as a canoe, and paddle boat - all ready to paddle around Sunset Cove. Life jackets are on hand as well.

We invite you to come and enjoy your own private get-a-way at Papa Bob’s Cabin. It is a one-room cabin with a large private bathroom/changing area. ***The bathroom will be remodeled Winter of 2007!***You will find a queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa. There is a loft with two twin beds. Appliances include a refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and coffee maker. There is central heat and air condition. Other amenities include a Weber gas grill and board games. So, bring a good book, your swimsuit, your fishing pole and come relax.

*******We have a 1999 Voyager 21' pontoon boat available for rent with our home! We upgraded the motor to a 90 hp 4 stroke. It's quiet and no mixing oil and gas! The pontoon rental is $195/day with a 3 day minimum. PLEASE NOTE: In 2006, Lake Lure has passed a regulation that makes it unlawful for boats with commercial licenses (i.e.our guests) to tow skiiers or tubes, etc behind the boat.**************

By the way, the cabin's property adjoins 'Ledfords Landing' which is VRBO listing # 28758. Combine the properties if you are looking for a large extended area for a family reunion or gathering (together sleeps 16). The large grass field on the cabin's property is ideal for games and gatherings. There is a volleyball net and whiffle balls and bat you are welcome to use but we suggest you bring your own glove. Whiffle ball with the kids is one of our favorites!

Papa Bob's Lakefront Cabin on 14 Acres

Year Purchased: 1978

Why the Owner Chose Lake Lure

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

This property is truly a waterfront experience. Literally built over the waters edge.

Owner's Map of Lake Lure

Hi,we are Tom, Jenny, Samuel and Isaac Cox. Our Lake Lure cabin has been in our family for 20 years. We love Lake Lure because it makes you feel that you are a million miles from the responsibilities of home. The views and peace and quiet turn our focus on the bigger picture, away from the daily details that pull at us. We invite you to enjoy our cabin. Come and relax!

    • What a wonderful stay we had at Papa Bob's. The location is amazing and the views are truly breathtaking. We had perfect weather and truly had the most peaceful and relaxing vacation ever. The ducks and geese were an unexpected bonus and they were well fed throughout out stay. I can't wait until we can stay here again. Thanks for everything Jenny, you really made this a dream vacation for us!

We had a great get-a-way here. Beautiful lake, adorable cabin - just a wonderful time. Hate to leave! I'm thinking maybe God called or placed you here so that not only you could create wonderful memories, but also provide others the chance to have them too.

We had a wonderful time. It's such a beautiful place. The cabin was nice and clean. Special thanks to Pap Bob and the bag of apples he brought.

We really enjoyed the paddle boat. Papa Bob brought over some delicious apples and peaches. We loved swimming in warm water. We spent way too much time in Asheville and not nearly enough time tucked away in this piece of paradise. We'd love to come back and spend more time just relaxing on the lake.

What a special place with the best view in the cove! We got engaged her - out on the lake in the pontoon paddle boat at sunset... how simply romantic. thank you for sharing your special oasis with us. The flowers and juicy peaches were such a nice touch.

The cabin just perfect for a couple and the views are to die for. So many things to do here. We used all of your toys and really took advantage of the lake. We would normally go out for dinner every night but we wanted to enjoy the cabin as much as possible, so many dinners were on the back patio. By the way we would like to know where to buy Old Town Otters. We kayak a lot but normally stay away from 'sit inside' kayaks. But these track well and are not 'tippy'. We will be back!

The word of the weekend was WOW!!! Everything was great. We caught 110's of bluegill. We also loved the groundhogs. I actually caught one of the little ones, took a picture and let him go. We loved the paddle boat.

    • How can you say a little piece of Heaven. I was stressed out to the max. After 10 minutes on the deck and a cup of coffee all of that was gone. I would and am giving it two thumbs up. The paddle pontoon is absolutely unbelievable. FUN, FUN, FUN.
