If it's a water experience that you are looking for, this is it! Nestled among the native rhododendrons and dogwoods of the Appalachian Mountains sets this unique little cabin. Built in the early 1970’s, it is one of the original lakefront homes on Lake Lure. It is truly an exceptional find in that it is set on a 14-acres at the head of Sunset Cove. Also, it is built partially out over the water, which allows an unobstructed view from the porch directly down the cove to the main channel, Chimney Rock, and most importantly the sun setting over the mountains. It is one of the finest views on the lake.

Let us take you back to the earlier, unhurried days of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge area. Leave the busy life behind and return to the days of real relaxation and rest. You can lounge on the deck in the warm summer sun reading a good book, fish from the dock as the water licks at your feet, swim in the cool refreshing water, go kayaking down the cove, or just sit and watch the sun sparkle and move across the water and then sink behind the mountains.

In its own right, our cabin and dock/bridge are famous - if you're a movie buff. In 1983, several scenes from the movie, Firestarter, were filmed on the property. The most memorable being when Charlie and her dad were captured by 'the Shop' while crossing our very own dock. The film featured an all-star cast with Drew Berrymore, Martin Sheen, & George C. Scott.

The dock/bridge mentioned above extends all the way across the end of the cove(approx. 100 feet)and is truly unique. We added a picnic area with custom made adirondack chairs. The entire bridge is ideal for the fishing enthusiast. Two Sea Otter kayaks are on hand as well as a canoe, and 12 ft pontoon paddle boat - all ready to explore Sunset Cove and Lake Lure. Life jackets are on hand as well.

We invite you to come and enjoy your own private get-a-way at Papa Bob’s Cabin. It is a one-room cabin with a large private bathroom/changing area. You will find a queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa. There is a loft with two twin beds. Appliances include a refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and coffee maker. There is central heat and air condition. Other amenities include a Weber gas grill and board games. So, bring a good book, your swimsuit, your fishing pole and come relax.

*******DUE TO TOWN REGULATIONS WE CAN ALLOW 4 adults OR 2 adults & 4 CHILDREN********

We have a 1999 Voyager 21' pontoon boat available for rent with our home! The motor is a 90 hp 4 stroke. It's quiet and no mixing oil and gas! The pontoon rental is $195/day with a 3 day minimum. PLEASE NOTE: In 2006, Lake Lure has passed a regulation that makes it unlawful for boats with commercial licenses (i.e.our guests) to tow skiiers or tubes, etc behind the boat.**************

By the way, the cabin's property adjoins 'Ledfords Landing' which is VRBO listing # 28758. Combine the properties if you are looking for a large extended area for a family reunion or gathering (together sleeps 14-16). The large grass field on the cabin's property is ideal for games and gatherings. There is a volleyball net and whiffle balls and bat you are welcome to use but we suggest you bring your own glove. Whiffle ball with the kids is one of our favorites!

Just wanted to thank you for a wonderful stay in your Cabin. Our Honeymoon was so relaxing and most days were spent sitting on the dock and enjoying the view!!! Traveled the lake in the pontoon... and did some fishing. Thank you for the special touches for our Honeymoon stay. We hope to return in the future.

Spent four days fishing with my brother and had a great time. Papa Bob's is a nice little throwback cabin that you don't find much on lakes in NC anymore. Located close to a fun bar/restaurant and a grocery store. Awesome deck. They call it Sunset Cove for a reason.

This was a perfect little getaway for our family. The kids enjoyed the paddle boat, fishing, and canoeing. The location is outstanding with a perfect sunset view from the deck. We've stayed at a few places at the lake and this was certainly the best for a small family or couple. We'll definitely be back here!

Our group of 4 ladies loved having use of the paddle boat, canoe & volleyball field. We enjoyed the place & it suited us well. We were a little shocked at how small the loft was and the steps leading to the loft but it was stil able to sleep all 4 of us comfortably.

Owner response: Just to clarify: there is a queen bed and queen sleeper sofa downstairs. The loft is small, but great for kids. They love having their own space. There are 2 regular twin beds in the loft.

Wow, what a great time we had at Papa Bob's! It was absolutely a perfect spot to spend our vacation. The kids LOVED the floating dock, the fishing, the kayaks, the campfires every night, and making friends with the ducks. Us parents loved the solitude, views, and general R&R away from the city. Only wish we could have stayed much, much longer!

Just a note to thank you for sharing the amazing treasure of Papa Bob's Cabin with us Jul 8-15. We truly enjoyed everything about the cabin, the property, and of course the breathtakingly beautiful Lake Lure. We had a very relaxing stay and could not be happier with the accommodations. We made good use of the kayaks and the paddle boat, and really enjoyed taking the pontoon out to see the rest of the lake. Although we had plenty of rain, we really didn't mind at all. We would just open the windows and listen while reading. The dock was great and the sunsets were amazing, just as described. Don't change a thing - can't wait to visit again.

My husband and I enjoyed our restful time at the lake front...great chairs to relax in and enjoy the lake and view. A couple joined us for one day and the 2 men did a tad bit of fishing and we exlored the area and took the boat tour of the lake together...a very laid back time that we needed. we enjoyed feeding our tostado chips to the fish and ducks in the water out front. We have given the info of this house and the other connecting property to our daughter to organize a family get together someday. The young ones would have loved it and would have played in the water all day long - with us sitting in the shade to watch them as they called out, "watch me...watch me!". Maybe we can trade houses someday...our beach house for your lake house...both on VRBO.

The cottage was exactly as pictured, the lake was beautiful, the paddleboat and kayaks were definite "hits". The area is definitely beautiful! Deer, turkeys, and ducks were daily visitors to the cove. The cottage was exceptionally clean and Ingles (local grocery) and Larkins on the Lake (restaurant) were conveniently close and definitely worth going to. We tried the local horseback ride and the zip line was a lot of fun too, but we spent most of our time relaxing and fishing from the paddleboat and off the dock. We had a wonderful time. The owners were extremely helpful and quickly responded to any questions we asked. I would highly recommend the cottage for a relaxing get-away.

Perfectly relaxing and yet plenty to do! The cabin was clean and very functional. With two kids (ages 8 and 10), the facilities were perfect. The loft was a slice of heaven for the kids. The lake faces west so the mornings are shaded and perfect for reading, playing on the dock and relaxing. Afternoons spent sightseeing. Home for dinner on the grill and sunset watching. Great time had by all!

We have stayed at Papa Bob's 3 times and have absolutely loved every minute of our stays! It's such a peaceful, beautiful place. The cabin is well stocked, clean, and vey cozy. We enjoy visiting Chimney Rock and just driving around and enjoying the scenery. Our children have fun playing in the lake and fishing. This is not a fast paced vacation jam packed with stimulating activities (i.e. Myrtle Beach!).....it's truly a relaxing place to be to slow down and get away from our "on the go world"! A wonderful place to enjoy and marvel at the natural beauty that God created!
