Welcome to Garrykennedy Cottage - the finest 18th century Lakeside vacation rental cottage on Lough Derg, County Tipperary, Ireland.
The Cottage featured on the FINE LIVING television channel in the US in the show "Around the World in 80 Homes".
Garrykennedy Cottage is a single property dating back to 1782. It is not part of a scheme of properties built for the tourist market. It is a unique olde world property.
The cottage today incorporates the original old cottage and the attached coach house. It is quite spacious extending to over 2000 square feet. There is a beautiful private terraced garden with patio at the rear of the Cottage.
The cottage has four double bedrooms each with a queen size double bed (sleping 2 persons). One of the bedroom is downstairs. The other 3 including the master ensuite bedroom are upstairs.
The cottage has 3 bathrooms (all upstairs). Two of the bathrooms have large showers with modern electric power shower fittings. The other bathroom has a full bath.
The cottage is located in the middle of the lakeside village of Garrykennedy, Co. Tipperary. The village has approximately 10 other properties (including two musical pubs and restaurant) - all occupied by locals. There is no other vacation rental property in the village. The nearest grocery store is one mile away. The nearest large town (population 4,000) is Nenagh (six miles from cottage).
Boat rental available in the village, complete with outboard motors and life jackets. Free docking for the boat less than 100 yards from the front door of the cottage. Ask us for details.
Garrykennedy is an ideal central base for touring Ireland. Garrykennedy is 105 miles (170km) from Dublin Airport and 37 miles (60km) from Shannon Airport. Its approximately 20 miles (32km) from County Galway. It’s a further 30 miles (48km) to Galway City.

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the vacation. Our expectations were exceeded. We really loved the comfort and charm of the cottage. Your garden is a beautiful spot - my wife enjoyed that area more than anything. The ambiance of the house led us to spend as much time as we could there - always nice to get back to. The people we met in the village were very friendly. Lots of pints bought for us in the pub (we reciprocated).You can’t beat the proximity to 2 village pubs and the lovely lake view. We took the boat trip on the lake from Killaloe. Went to Larkins Restaurant in the village (4 doors down from the Cottage) every night either for dinner, cocktail hour, or music sessions - GREAT. We had a Blast ! We have already recommended the Cottage to MANY of our friends and family - with the caveat that we get right of first refusal on dates!

We enjoyed our stay immensely and have already recommended the cottage to our friends and family. We also would easily consider a stay for a return visit. The cottage and the village of Garrykennedy gave us exactly the chance we wanted... to stay in Ireland proper...among the Irish people... it offered an authentic visit and experience. I, personally, would have been happy with the entire time spent among the people who live in the village and those that visit its pubs and waterways on a daily basis. Everyone we met welcomed us to their home. The cottage offered just the right combination of comfort and representative charm of the years its seen (the same as the village). Also, the information provided via the website and the handbook was invaluable. Thank you for the exhaustive work you obviously put into making our stay grand.
