When the French doors on the living room and bedroom are open, the living space expands to include this semi-enclosed area effectively blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior space. About the owner: I am a native San Franciscan, architect, and surfer. I am the principal of MH Architects. I have been traveling to and surfing in California and Hawaii all my life. When my parent's purchase Unit M5, I was elated. I have caught the best waves of my entire life at Kepuhi Beach and had countless memories at the Unit M5 which will last forever. The MHA Studio includes a support staff of talented and seasoned designers, project managers, and CAD technicians. MH Architects is a multi-facetted architecture firm based in San Francisco. I have been in practice since 2001 with a range of technical experience in residential, winery, hotel, office, and institutional programs. In addition to a large number of projects in California, my firm has completed buildings in Japan, China, and Hawaii.

Why the Owner Chose Maunaloa:
When my parents retired, they traveled to every island of Hawaii and visited virtually every condominium complex. They are not big fans of resort hotels or high rise resorts. They like to cook at home and avoid the tour-scene. Paniolo Hale Condominiums on Molokai offered a very unique, beautiful, and secluded Hawaiian experience which they immediately fell in love with. After staying there for the first time in 1987, they made the previous owner an offer he could not refuse (it wasn't even for sale), and we've been visiting twice a year ever since. Three years ago, I exercised my design skills by renovating the both the bathroom and the kitchen, the first upgrade of the property since the original construction in 1980. I hope you like it!

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Our family usually flies Hawaiian Airlines from San Francisco to Honolulu and Island Air from Honolulu to Molokai. Reserve a rental car in advance with Molokai Car Rental, Alamo, or Budget. All three have franchises at the Molokai Airport (MKK). Ask the car rental agent to mark their complimentary map with the location of Paniolo Hale (our condominium site) and Kaunakakai (the main town). Because Molokai Airport is located exactly halfway between Paniolo Hale and the main town of Kaunakakai, we recommend that upon receipt of your rental car you drive immediately to Kaunakakai to stock up on provisions. We like to buy enough fish and meat to last a couple days, throw some in the freezer, and BBQ at the community grill at Paniolo Hale. The island of Molokai offers a tranquil alternative to the more congested and tourist-oriented islands of Hawaii. As you explore the island, you will encounter the world’s highest ocean-facing cliffs, the State’s longest beach, great surfing October through May, hiking and biking trails, waterfalls, and dramatic landscape in general. You will not find any stoplights, Starbucks or McDonalds, high-rise resorts, boutique stores, or restaurants with celebrity chefs. Last count, there is one golf course. Running west to east, Molokai is about 40 miles long and 7 miles wide. The West End is characterized by gradual topography, arid landscape, and brilliant red soil. A series of dramatic ridges and peaks run down the center of the island offering gorgeous hiking trails and picturesque vistas. Recently beatified Father Damien is honored at the secluded Kalaupapa National Historical Park on the north coast. The drive along the south coast loops between small picturesque beach coves and fishponds built by King Kamehameha. The dominant feature of the East End is the 4-mile-deep Halawa Valley dotted with ancient stone ruins and the Moa’ula Falls.
