A gracious, elegant, and spacious, antique (1867) Victorian home with cupola on 1 1/3 acres that sits up on a hill overlooking Peconic Bay (view of Bay from second floor) on Hog's Neck. The first floor has twelve foot ceilings with front parlor, large dining room, a library with desk, and an open kitchen that extends, on one side, to an eating area tucked into a bay window and, on the other side, to a comfy side parlor with wood-burning fireplace. Laundry room and powder room also on first floor. Master bedroom on second floor has ensuite bathroom with steam shower. Two other bedrooms and a second full bath on this floor. Beautiful original wide-board floors throughout the house. Front and back staircases.
A screened-in side porch and brick patio in the back provide outdoor living space for all times of day and all kinds of weather. Patio is equipped with white wrought-iron outdoor furniture, additional seating, a gas grill, and an herb garden for your culinary adventures.
Due to its open plan and many tall windows and glass doors, our home is open to and surrounded by trees and suffused with the wonderful North Fork light. Enjoy entertaining family and friends who have room to spread out in our spacious ground floor living spaces, or, more simply, enjoy contemplative early morning hours on your own curled up on one of our sofas.
Should you have work to do, the library with expansive partner's desk, WiFi, and printer will inspire you.
Cooking is a pleasure in our fully-equipped kitchen with access to great seafood, wonderful produce from the ubiquitous North Fork farmstands, and numerous speciality food stores. Or, if cooking is not your thing, enjoy the North Fork's wide array of amazing restaurants.
Since this is our week-end home, we have a good supply of books, CD's, DVD's, sports equipment, games and puzzles, a few bikes, a cooler for the beach, beach towels, etc. We leave it all for you to use and ask that you treat it as your own.
Since we are located on Hog's Neck, we are a bike-ride away from three very different and charming bay beaches and our most local and very special vineyard and winery. We are five minutes drive to Southold town center and a 15-minute drive to historic Greenport and the ferry to Shelter Island and the South Fork. The North fork is a popular vacation destination with much to do -- browse galleries and antique stores in and around Greenport, bike the highways and scenic backroads, participate in water sports and boating activities of all sorts, explore Shelter Island and hike the Mashomack trails, and discover the old whaling village of Orient and Orient State Park -- or simply take leisurely walks on local beaches collecting shells.
We are happy to rent to adults over 25 and families of all sorts. We will consider well-behaved pets who will not damage furniture or scratch our antique wooden floors. A security deposit is required.

My wife and I stayed here for a week in August and it was so hard to leave. The location is perfect for spring-boarding to nearby beaches and wineries. The house is an architectural gem with Victorian details, wide-plank flooring, a lovely veranda, and screened in porch. We spent most of our time on the back porch grilling, drinking wine, and talking about what adventures the next day held. The bedrooms were large and the master bathroom was amazing (I used the steam shower everyday). Our dog, a small puggle, was very happy as well. This house is perfect for people that want a central location and loads of space to spread out and relax. Might not be perfect for those that are picky and are looking for a brand new house that doesn't squeak or creak. You will need a car or bike for sure.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 1981
About the owner: We are New Yorkers who have commuted between Manhattan and the North Fork for the past 30 years.
Why the Owner Chose Southold:
We fell in love with this house (and with the North Fork) and have spent much of the past 30 years restoring it. Easy access to New York City enabled us to raise our kids in the city and the country.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Morning coffee on glorious summer days in our screened in porch, chilly evenings curled up on the sofa in front of the wood-burning stove in our sitting room, leisurely dinners with family and friends in our dining room or on the patio.
