Cape Vincent house description
Everyone falls in love with this lovely waterfront property in a parklike setting! It's 1/3 mile from Tibbetts Point Lighthouse, where Lake Ontario joins the St. Lawrence. Facing the water, to your left is Lake Ontario; directly opposite is Wolfe Island (Canadian), with Kingston, Ontario behind. Half-hour downriver is the heart of the 1000 Islands, with castles, boat tours, restaurants, and shopping. Tour it all or stay put, swimming and lounging on the deck or wraparound porches of this vintage summer home. Rollerblade, bike, jog, or walk the "River Road".
The 4BR summer home has nice decor and panoramic views. Upstairs are 3BR/1 BA: king, double, and 2 twin beds; downstairs is the "foc'sle", with two twin captain's beds and another full bath. It's low tech - TV and DVD/VCR players only, but in the quaint town of Cape Vincent is high-speed Internet.
ALSO AVAILABLE: A 1.5 BR guest wing with screened porch and separate entrance and a 2BR guest house.
PLEASE NOTE: We rent by the week, Saturday to Saturday, from
mid-June through September only. It's seasonal! Thanks. :)

My family and I stayed at Headwaters for one week. The main house was large enough to accommodate all 10 of us. We spent a lot of time on the wrap around screened in porch. The kids enjoyed watching the boats pass by. Unfortunately, the house was not well maintained. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. Paint is chipping off everywhere and we found several nails on the porch. With 4 small children this was a concern. It was not properly cleaned upon our arrival and we found ourselves cleaning the bathrooms and vacuuming the floors immediately. The entrance into the river is not ideal for small children either - the water is a bit rough and the small area where you can walk into the water is very rocky. Headwaters has a lot of potential and can be a great place for other families, but I do not recommend it for those with small children.

Wonderful place, wonderful hosts!
Wonderful place, wonderful hosts!
My family booked our vacation to the Thousand Islands, and couldn't have been happier thanks to the warmth and hospitality Lori and Gary showed us. We came in July of 2011, and found the cottage to be just what we needed. We were a group of 10, with small children, and the accommodations were fabulous. We rented the whole main house, and found it to be spotlessly clean, comfortable, and unbelievably relaxing. Our kids loved the swing in the front, and the gracious, wide lawn to play. The deck that overlooks the St. Lawrence was beautiful for breakfasts and sunset watching. Gary was so lovely, even taking us out on his sailboat once he knew that there were experienced sailors in the group! Lori and Gary gave us recommendations of what to do in the area, and we were able to find the best swimming place in the area because of their recommendations too! We loved it and will definitely be back!

Great location for a family reunion
Great location for a family reunion
In July of 2010 our family [from MA, NJ & NY] met at Headwaters for a week's reunion. The main house was spacious and comfortable with water views from most windows. There are many areas to gather together or to just find a quiet place to curl up alone with a book.We especially loved the generous wrap-around screened porch for eating meals or river watching. The deck on the river's edge was a lovely place to enjoy the view, the sun, or the spectacular sunsets. We biked, walked to the lighthouse, swam, sailed and went sightseeing on several days. It was a restful and relaxing time together. This is a unique location...so handy to the ferry to Canada and to Thousand Island attractions. The property is owned by a welcoming and gracious couple. Great find!

About the owner: We consider "the river" our home away from home and are privileged to share it with friends and guests. This lovely 4BR cottage is our own summer home, but we are making it available for guest use by the week now that our children are on their own. (It is our 9th summer of renting the guest wing and guest house.)
Why the Owner Chose Cape Vincent:
Gary was privileged to be born in Cape Vincent and spent all his summers here growing up, messing about with boats. Lori first visited in 1983. We had the opportunity to purchase the property in 2002 and have loved sharing this paradise ever since with a succession of wonderful guests, friends, and family.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We enjoy occasional day trips to Kingston, etc, but are happiest on our own waterfront! We sail and boat... as Gary's parents used to say, and now we do too: LEAVE CAPE VINCENT IN THE SUMMER??????
