Julian cabin description

Enjoy our spacious, beautifully-crafted open cabin with stunning views across our valley through two-story windows: an instant feeling of retreat!

The spacious kitchen, outfitted with new stainless steel appliances and plenty of cooking tools, lets you enjoy meal preparations without missing out on any of what's going on. The generously-sized island makes both a great work area and a good place to hang out. The kitchen includes a microwave, two full-size ovens and plenty of gadgets for your culinary adventures.

Curl up on the loft couch or downstairs in front of the fire for a restful getaway. Get a group together to play board games or put together puzzle from our collection. Gather in our front room to watch a favorite movie on our 47' flat screen t.v. with Blu-Ray/DVD player. Spend a morning reading in the teak swing hanging in the oak tree just outside the kitchen window.

The two similar bedrooms feature queen beds, with luxurious and cozy linens (and the same goes for the pull-out sofas downstairs). The cabin is perfect for a family get-away, and includes a pack-and-play crib for the little ones.

Modern rustic tile in the bathrooms and showers compliments reclaimed antique vanities. The downstairs bath includes a spacious shower; the upstairs bath has a shower/tub.

A generously-sized balcony/deck spans the back of the house, accessed through two french doors. Teak patio furniture lets you enjoy this extra outdoor living space--perfect for morning coffee, outdoor dining, and stargazing at night.

The house features stunning custom work, including a rustic and elegant railing made from oak trees that grew on our property; solar water heating continues our commitment to eco-friendly choices. Whether you enjoy being outside hiking and exploring Julian or just want to stay indoors for a weekend of rest and relaxation, this house offers an experience of mountain retreat as soon as you walk inside!

Our home is located about 2 miles south of Julian's town center, and about 5 miles north of Lake Cuyamaca. On a beautiful hillside, it is a gorgeous vantage point for watching the seasons in Julian, and has easy access to town and to outdoor adventures.

So, what wasn't to like, just a cozy little place in a quiet little mountain community. The cabin itself looks great from the outside, but just enjoying the indoors all weekend with my best friends was amazing too. We aren't the party type, but more the hang out inside and play board games type, so this retreat was just perfect. There was a small little hiccup with sheets and blankets, but it was rectified by the owner so there are no complaints from us. We have been telling any one that is interested that they should come here, so if that's you, then please visit. We can't wait to go back.

The location listed was spot on when we arrived. The photos did not do the home justice at all. The home was sparkling and shining when we entered, everything was operational and functioning. Emails were answered quickly when we had questions. Upon driving in, be prepared for a very steep driveway and only 3 available parking spots in total. After entering through the doors, our first reaction was, "wow!" As you walk in, you're greeted with a fabulous kitchen to the left and a spacious living room to the right. Your walls contain windows up the side which allows in a plethora of natural lighting. As you venture up the stairs, there is a mini couch area before you enter your bedrooms. The bedrooms have ample outlets for our phones, laptops, and plenty of linen were found in the drawers. Towels were bountiful in both bathrooms, but we didn't quite like the "luxurious rainfall shower head" downstairs. It sprayed everywhere but the person showering. The heroes of this home were the living room and kitchen. The living room had two full couches, one on each side and the family room had a full assortment of games for the Wii and Xbox (great for keeping the kids busy!). The kitchen was amazing! We had two separate full ovens (with convection capabilities) and the sink was deep enough to hold everything. We were able to make bacon, eggs, sausage, spam and pancakes all at the same time! (With two people of course). The long dining table was able to hold all the food and 8 people sitting to eat comfortably. We were told the kitchen was fully stocked for us. We realized that was an understatement. There was a wide assortment of pots and pans, a spice rack enough to make chili, enough cups to satisfy 6 teens throughout the day (who dirtied dishes like there was no tomorrow), and we even found a large griddle in the cabinets. Cleanup was a breeze for us since the stove top was a smooth top surface and plenty of kitchen towels were found in the drawers. This is a home we would definitely come back to! Next time we need a place to stay in the area, we are for sure booking this lovely retreat in the trees again!

Owner response: Thank You so much for your review. I now have had several comments about the shower head and am having it replaced. I hope the new shower head is pleasing to more people. I hope you come and visit us again.

We stayed here for Christmas week hoping for a white Christmas which we did not get. The house is very comfortable and warm. The kitchen is well supplied with pots and pans, enough to make your holiday meal. There are a few minor negatives. The TV room could only fit 5 comfortably, no satellite or WIFI, no reception on the stereo, the downstairs shower has very low water pressure and had difficulty finding enough face towels. Eventually found them in a bag in the laundry room closet. All that being said, the house was beautiful and not your average cabin in the woods. Location was great. Close to town.

My husband and I came up for a few days of relaxation and our daughter and her family joined us a few days later. What a beautiful home you have and what a blessing that you share it with lucky folks like us! We had a great time exploring Julian; downtown, geocaching, museum, Lake “C” a gold mine and train ride-but it brought us great joy to come back everyday to your beautiful home! My oldest grandson slept in the loft and I would find him every morning staring out the windows at the amazing view! The whole family enjoyed the deck every morning and evening! I loved reading your family/house story and the pics, so we could put a “face with the name.” It is evident, this is a “house that LOVE built!” Thank you again for sharing your your beautiful home. We have created many great family memories. May God richly bless your family for blessing ours!

This home is so beautiful, and such a great story to go along with it! My husband and I enjoyed a few days of rest and then our daughter, her husband and their kids joined us for a few days! This house is in the perfect location; close enough to Julian for trips downtown for shopping, restaurants or the market, but in the hills where you can enjoy the quiet get-away! The house never felt crowded either, because the layout is great! The description was very accurate, the kitchen well stocked with great appliances, pans, dishes, utensils, etc. We went out to eat a few times, but for the most part ate at the house, even enjoying one dinner on the deck. The deck, by the way, is amazing! Probably my favorite part! We enjoyed every morning and evening on the deck, reading, sipping hot cocoa or coffee, prayer time...ahh! So wonderful! Our family visited the lake, where we rented paddle boats, which the kids loved, and also visited one of the local gold mines. The only thing we weren't able to do was pick our own fruit at an orchard; they are only open on weekends, so plan ahead if that is what you want to do. A big thank you to the family for opening your beautiful home for others to enjoy! If we are ever back in Julian, we will stay here! Also, Carre, in the realty office, was so great to work with and made everything so easy!

We absolutely loved this stunning "Retreat in the Trees"! The home is beautiful, such good craftsmanship! The listing description was accurate, as were the photos. The home and the property were very clean. We enjoyed the deck on the back of the house, from drinking our morning coffee to star gazing at night. We were in Julian for our niece's wedding. We hosted a dinner on Friday night, and everyone that attended was in awe of the home and the history behind it. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the essentials and more. There were spices in the cupboards as well. Plenty of bath towels, and a washer and dryer which I loved! There is plenty of room in this home, the bedrooms are upstairs and seemed just the right size. The Realtor we delt with, Carre, was an absolute doll! She was so helpful, and so easy to work with. I don't know that we will ever make it that way again, but, if we do, we will definately be back to stay! And, I would recommend this home to anyone looking for the comfort of your own home. We are so happy we chose to stay in the vacation rental rather than a hotel, we got our money's worth for sure.

This house is awesome. It was clean and provided everything promised. The house is very roomy. Everyone can sit together and talk or find their own place to relax. There is also a large deck which is a great place to eat, sit and visit or to view the night sky. There are neighbors nearby but the trees hide them from view and with the peace and quiet you almost forget they are there. We did enjoy our early morning visit from a couple of deer. The kitchen is fabulous! We found most everything needed to cook the food we brought. We also used the grill for a meal and while we remembered charcoal we were relieved to find lighter fluid. The kitchen was large enough for us to work together to prepare for our picnic at the nearby lake. There is a great window over the sink which even made washing dishes more enjoyable. This house is great and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a wonderful place to stay in the Julian area. We also enjoyed nearby hiking, stargazing, visiting Julian and a short trip in to San Diego. It's so wonderful this family is willing to share their beautiful home. A couple tips we wish we had known - if you bring any cans you need to bring a can opener. There was a bottle/can type opener which we could not get to work. If you are used to non stick cookware you will need to adjust during your stay. Also parking is not right next to house so if you bring lots of food, luggage etc. as we did be prepared for some steps leading down to the front door. Not criticisms, just info that might be helpful.

Owner response: Thank You for your review. I did not know we had a can opener shortage. I'll make sure that is remedied right away.

The house is beautiful, comfortable, spacious, and set in a great location. It was easy to book and straight forward. The only problem is that we ran out of hot water, and if there was something we needed to do to restore it (like turn on the hot water pump or something), it was not a part of the house instructions.

              Owner info

              Year Purchased: 2003

About the owner: We're a family of three generations. Grandpa and Grandma moved to San Diego with the Navy, and have enjoyed it ever since. Mom and Dad are retired now, too, and the kids try to fit weekends in Julian in between their other commitments!

              Why the Owner Chose Julian:
This cabin is a beloved part of our family, since our grandparents built here in the 70s; after the original house burned in the Cedar Fire of 2003, we've rebuilt it ourselves as a place to enjoy the mountains and each other!

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We love using the house as a place to relax and hang out, as a place to work on projects, and as a setting for family meals and cooking together. The back deck is a fabulous place to sit and stargaze at night or soak in sunlight during the day. Plus, it's a great base for exploring the fun things in the area. We like hiking, GeoCaching, and shopping in town, and love the pie at the Julian Pie Shop. (If you go there, tell Tim the Littlehales say hi.) :)
