This cabin is everything we could have hoped for and so much more! The whole thing was warm, spacious, had every possible little detail that we could think of that we might need and quite a few that we didn't realize that we in fact needed until we came upon them. The cabin was not only more beautiful that we imagined it would be from the pictures but super clean and great water pressure which was important for our big family! We caught a HUGE break because we were looking kind of last-minute and Cheri was a fantastic host and very accommodating even baking bread for us and leaving us fresh fruit and eggs! We were so happily surprised at how accurate her description was and will not only stay again but recommend it to everyone we know. It was so close to our ski slopes and had so much room that we will never consider getting another hotel again when we travel to that area!

Owner response: Thank you for the kind words! We're glad you enjoyed your stay and found the accommodations roomy and comfortable for your family. The extra room afforded a family visiting and recreating in the area is made even more convenient when there is a kitchen waiting for your home cooked meals. No dressing up, no waiting in lines and budget friendly! We look forward to your returning to Chaffee county again and making our vacation rental your "home away from home" - whether for a special occasion, a quick get away or relaxing vacation in the mountains!

We arrived on the afternoon of the 29th to a fire in the wood stove, fresh baked bread on the table, and farm fresh eggs in the refrigerator. The house was well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. It was clean, warm, and very comfortable. The king size bed was very comfortable with wonderful views of the mountains to the west. Cheri came by our first evening to make sure that everything was OK and that we got settled in. The photos accurately reflect the appearance of the property and the addition of a photo of the kitchen would be nice. We would recommend this property to friends and relatives and would stay there again ourselves. We enjoyed x-country skiing around St. Elmo. Thanks for the great accommodation, we had a wonderful time!

Owner response: Glad you were comfortable and enjoyed your visit to Chaffee county. The trails are fantastic for cross country skiing in the area as you discovered. They're easy to challenging, short or long according to skill levels of participants. Coming back to a welcoming fire, dinner and views of the sun setting over the mountains makes the efforts of the activity worth it!! Thank you for your suggestion of a photo of the kitchen. I have taken it to heart and added one for prospective guests. Wishing you a Happy New Year and looking forward to a future visit when you have the opportunity!

The house and everything about it was fantastic. And the mountain views were simply amazing ! Centrally located between Salida and Buena Vista made this a great place for home base. Cheri was a wonderful host and brought us fresh bread and fruit. Will definitely stay here again next time we visit the area.

Owner response: It was a pleasure to host such a delightful family. My two sisters and I spent a week here on our annual horse vacation. The horse facilities are terrific-large, safe corrals and pastures with barns and sheds for the horses. The riding is spectacular. The owner was our own private trail guide and showed us terrific trails. She catered to our interests and abilities. The cabin is beautiful. It is comfortable and well appointed and we enjoyed meals on the deck each night while we enjoyed the spectacular views of the mountains. The pictures don't do it justice. It is conveniently located so it was an easy drive into town but it feels very secluded and private. We usually go some place different every year but we 'll definitely be back here!

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: We are so glad you and your horses were comfortable and enjoyed the visit! We strive to have a safe place to leave your horses while staying with us as well as enjoy the trails and surrounding mountains. It truly is our pleasure to share theses beautiful trails with others- not to mention an excuse for us to spend a day on horseback as well. We welcome you back whenever you can arrange to visit again!! Until then - HAPPY TRAILS!!!

Cheri and Paul were gracious and friendly hosts, responding quickly to any question. They were very present on a day-to-day basis without being obtrusive. Their rental house was wonderful, providing a spacious, clean, attractive place for all occupants to relax, work, or entertain (the deck is a great place to BBQ). The location is a bit remote from towns (10 minutes by car) which adds to the peace and quiet. We’ll be back in Colorado this summer and this place with be tops on our list of places to stay.

Owner response: Thank you for the kind words! Your review mentions many of the features we find attractive in our property - the views, quiet and room to roam or entertain. Our location is half way between the two main towns in Chaffee County which adds to the convenience when shopping, eating out or heading for one of the many activities of the area. For those from metropolitan areas the drive into a town affords them the opportunity to take in even more of the beauty of the area as Hwy 285 is designated a scenic Byway! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and invite you to return when ever you consider a trip to Colorado!!

The house was perfect. Everything we needed was available, from towels for bathing to laundry detergent. The location was very quiet and the views were breathtaking. We had a wonderful stay. I would recommend my friends and family to stay here. And I can't wait to visit again.

Our family vacation to South Central CO was everything we could have hoped for and more. This beautiful home was our base camp. The location was perfect. It provided so much privacy and wonderful vistas. It felt very remote, yet right in the middle of things, with quick access to towns of Salida and Buena Vista. The home has everything you need and great comfort. Our two teenage boys loved having the upstairs rooms and loft area to themselves. The family room was great and overlooked amazing views of the fourteeners. The big kitchen table is perfect for family game nights. The owner/host was wonderful. We had a freshly cleaned home with fresh fruit, farm fresh eggs and home made bread, awaiting our arrival. Our host was very helpful in preparing our vacation in advance; sharing ideas for activities and places to contact for those reservations. We ate at home and also local restaurants. Food was great. Activities we did included hiking, rafting the Arkansas, ziplining, Royal Gorge, Great Sand Dunes, ATV riding, ghost towns, fish hatchery, watching wildlife, just relaxing on the deck, and much more. We would love to come to this area again, and would definitely chose to stay at this lovely home.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Owner response: It is always a pleasure to assist our guests in creating a memorable vacation. When we help guide you to activities of interest then you are able to enjoy as much as you can work into your days here. And oh boy, did you pack in the activities!! Glad to know the loft provided the boys with their own space. They will surely remember this vacation for a long time. You are invited back whenever your schedule permits and perhaps experience a winter getaway in the area.

The minute we walked in the door, I knew that the property we had rented was going to be just perfect....and it was! We felt right at home since everything we needed for a month-long stay was already there. Our three teenage boys liked the loft area when they wanted to have "their own space." The owners are warm, generous, friendly folks; and they always had great suggestions for places to fish, hike and sight-see. The location is just right since the town of Salida is only minutes away when you need a restaurant or store. We would definitely rent this home again and will recommend it to our family and friends!

Owner response: Our property does lend itself to wonderful family gatherings and we are so pleased vacationers are able to relax and enjoy all that Salida and the surrounding area has to offer. We strive to provide a home as inviting to our guests as their own homes - but with added conveniences to enhance the vacation experience! When a family has the chance to spend a longer time in the home it is so gratifying to us, as our "guests" soon become our friends. We await a return visit to continue that friendship!

My family stayed here June 2011. The owner was attentive and the property was beautiful, clean, and private. We truly enjoyed our stay and the cool summer nights. There are so many recreational activites in this area and we rode horses this time. The ride to the river and back was scenic...there are so many possibilities so close by! We might bring our ATV/dirt bikes next time.

Families do find this location convenient for all seasons! Do come and visit during the fall colors - views are magnificent from the deck as the mountains turn golden and an ATV is a great way to experience fall first hand!
