Such a great getaway for my 21st birthday! First time I ever book a house online but this is a great place! For all ages isolated to the point where no one will bother you so this is perfect if you want time alone I went with my boyfriend bestfriend and her fiancé so it was perfect! Weather was great we went canoeing it was pretty deep they do offer a life jacket for those that can't swim! Aswell as fished allitle since the river is right outside the porch. We also took advantage of the grill outside which we cooked a bunch! At night we had a couple of drinks lit up the camp fire outside which was perfect at night with only the light of stars! We did get there pretty late the first night so we couldn't find it but the owner was nice enough to offer us to stay another night but we couldn't so we stayed allitle longer. I would recomend getting there early so you won't get lost. It is pretty dark you will not find it after 7, 8 or soo. Overall very clean they used up every space of the house perfect, very comfortable prepare yourself to feel at home, and wish to stay longer! Planning my next getaway to this house!

Perfect place for me and some college buddies to reconnect for a few days. Built a fire in the fireplace every evening, used the grill a handful of times, and woke up with the sun. A bit chilly because the house doesn't have central heat, but once the fire was going and the space heaters warmed up (which didn't take long at all) it was the perfect temperature. Lots of room to sleep, especially liked the three beds upstairs for folks who wanted to turn in a bit earlier than the rest of us. Comfortably slept 8 without any issues. Loved our experience, made tons of memories.

This is a rustic cabin right on the Nueces with a view of the clear river from the patio. This is a screened in porch for those needing it. Place is stocked with all the things you forget. Kayaks and a canoe are provided also. Great place for a family get together with only AT&T wireless service here so not many distractions. We went to Kickapoo State Park Caverns, Camp Wood, Del Rio, etc in the area.

It is rare to find such charming rusticity and peaceful solitude, in combination with a fully furnished abode with everything one needs to have a great vacation! The area is so incredibly beautiful, and the house is awesome! We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend, playing in the river, kayaking, and fishing. We will definitely be back!

We had an absolute fabulous time at the house. The stars were breathtaking, the bats at dusk were amazing and the fishing could not have been better. There was a fair amount of moss but that was just habitat for the fish. You have one of the best swimming holes on the river. The best thing about the whole trip was the lack of phone, internet and tv service. This made for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. The house has everything you need and more. We will definently be back.

My immediate impression of the cabin was “clean". I pay a maid to clean my house regularly. At times I wonder how she misses the most obvious things. Cleanliness (or lack of) is high on my peeves list, regardless of the age of a property. No dust…not even the tiniest cobweb to be found. It is really well stocked. Towels & sheets in great condition. Very comfortable bed! Nicely furnished for a “cabin” and just as pictured. As rentals age it can be misleading & disappointing to find things are not as expected. Given there are no stores within miles it’s very kind of the owners to make sure the necessities are there for you. There’s a Hummingbird feeder on the back porch. If it’s empty simply whip up sugar water. They were entertaining to watch with your AM coffee or PM cocktails. There are birds galore. If that’s your hobby it’s a good place to stay. The neighbors are in close proximity but it still felt peaceful & relaxing. There are good places to swim & float within short driving distance. Honestly, the portion of the river behind the cabin was not conducive for that on our visit. Algae & moss were heavy. I cannot speak for other months. They provide ladders to enter/exit the river but it is deep in the immediate area. Small kids & weak swimmers should be monitored. There was a slow gentle flow. If fishing, bring your own gear. We saw plenty of big catfish, trout (?), and sunfish. The sunfish will nibble on small pieces of bread if bird watching bores you. I would post pics but don't see that option. It’s a great location for motorcycle rides. We rode the 3 Sisters route. The scenery is gorgeous! Do be extra cautious. We saw or heard of 5 bike wrecks over two days. We even took a small “spill." You can ride for years then it happens in a split second. Some curves along the 3 Sisters route are blind curves. Oncoming vehicles cross over the lines taking in the scenery or driving too fast. We’ll be back for Spring. I neglected to ask about check-out time. The cleaning lady arrived at 11am (Sunday) and graciously waited & fished while we packed. It’s the hill country. Wearing shoes/slippers indoor is a good idea as we found a scorpion in the kitchen one day. Lastly, they provide all the comforts of home…but I still recommend you bring your own Charmin! ;-)

Overall the stay was good, however the 3rd floor bedroom was hard to access. With a family with children we did not enjoy that the master bedroom was separate from the 2 beds upstairs and the loft on the 3rd floor, so I should have read more in detail that the rooms were not attached. The bugs seemed to be really bad in the 2nd and 3rd floor loft. There was no cell service so that was a bit frustrating, and the TV did not work either. However the positive...view is beautiful, we caught several fish, area was very quite and the stars were beautiful at night. They had everything you needed in the kitchen, bathrooms etc...Not sure if we will go back, but overall the stay was average. Enjoyed the bottom floor the most.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was so accomodating to allow us to add an additional day when our plans changed. The cabin has everything you could need or had forgotten. We were even graced with a wonderful thunderstorm while we were there and soaked it all in while dry on the screened in porch. Will be back again.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet at the cabin. The river water was very clear when we went and the night sky was equally clear. The cabin was in good repair for a cabin, and the kayaks and canoe were fun.

Why the Owner Chose Camp Wood:
Our father purchased this cabin in the 70's and lived there very happily until his death in 2007. When we inherited the place, we wanted to keep it in the family. We have many wonderful memories of family reunions and quiet times with Dad. His grandchildren always enjoyed swimming and kayaking the river on summer days.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our family enjoys the quiet and scenic views. We are always delighted by the brilliance of the stars in the night sky. From the patio, we often see deer crossing the river, and water fowl in their take-offs and landings. We are motorcyclists, and have treated ourselves to several of the spectacular routes through Hill Country.
