We had a much needed relaxing weekend on the river. The cabin was great and had everything we needed to have a comfortable stay. We will be coming back this summer, this time with the kids.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet at the cabin. The river water was very clear when we went and the night sky was equally clear. The cabin was in good repair for a cabin, and the kayaks and canoe were fun.

My family stayed here last year (July 2012) with my older sister's family, my parents, and my little sister. We had a blast swimming, fishing, and kayaking. This trip was originally planned to be the same party but everyone else had to cancel at the last minute due to extenuating circumstances. Couple that with the fact that it was unusually cool for this time of year in South-Central Texas and it's not hard to see why we were a bit apprehensive about the trip beforehand. God never fails to amaze me. Instead of every day being jam-packed with an itenerary of activities, we spent most of our days relaxing on the shady patio overlooking the beautiful crystal-clear river and we spent most of our evenings star-gazing and watching family movies on the couches by the warm glow of the fireplace. We ate breakfast one morning at Casa Falcon and dinner one evening at Neal's Lodge. We took several beautiful country drives and spent quality time with each other (my wife, our three kids and myself) that was much needed. The cabin accomodated our suprise plans perfectly with it's peacefulness, beauty, and comfort. We came back from this trip completely rejuvenated. It was perfect and we're already planning our next trip.

The cabin was a short distance from Camp Wood, and in good order when we arrived. There was some water in the Nueces and the boys went fishing (caught a couple and released). We saw lots of wildlife around the cabin and during our ride. There were 5 of us and we had everything we needed for our stay, although most of our time was spent on the motorcycles. There are a couple of cafes in Camp Wood, we ate at the one on the left going east on 337, it was ok. We ate several times at the cafe in Leakey, Mill Creek, I believe was the name, very good, and open early for breakfast. We would stay again, the location for us was good, and the owner was very pleasant.

My family and I spent the Thanksgiving holiday at the property and I have nothing but great things to say about it. The cabin is exactly as the pictures appear, only there are more amenties that are not shown (we loved the screened porch and the kids loved sleeping on the 1/2 floor on the 3rd story). Everything we needed was in the cabin, down to firewood and kindling ready to be used in the fireplace. We even cooked an entire Thanksgiving meal and had everything we needed to do so. We are definitley planning to come back in the summer time to take advantage of the beautiful swimming hole right out the back door. We had a great time watching movies, roasting marshmallows and just enjoying the peace and serenity of being in the country. Love this little cabin in the woods, can't wait to come back.

I like to give honest reviews (good and bad) and I don't care about upsetting the owners. This place is a solid 4 stars. I don't give out 5 stars very often. We showed up on a Friday and stayed until the following Monday. The area is beautiful. You are surrounded by mountains (or Hills if you from a state like Colorado). The family was myself, my wife, and our three children (5 mo. boy, 2 yr. girl, 5 yr. girl). The Good: 1. They have everything you need there except for food and fishing tackle. They even had a large stack of firewood ready to be burned in their large fire pit. There is a washer, dryer, grill, space heaters, indoor and outdoor blankets, towels, lighting outside. 2. The backdoor of the house is 20 feet from the river bank. 3. The nueces river is crystal clear. 4. The portion of the river that is 20 feet from the house is DEEP. At least 15 feet deep. We went during the drought, so, that is saying a lot. 5. The house is really cosy. The last night a cold front came in so we started a fire in the large fireplace and everyone slept next to the fire. 6. The stars were everywhere at night. 7. Camp Wood is close by and is a bustling small town. The gas station seemed to have a little bit of everything. The Bad: 1. The banks of the river are steep and require that you climb down a ladder to get into the water. Then, once you get in there the water goes from being 2.5 feet deep to 15+ feet deep in a matter of inches (in other words there is no subtle slope down into the deep end). This makes it very difficult for little kids to go into the water and enjoy themselves. 2. We were planning on hiking in the area on one of the days. But, when we got there we couldn't find any hiking trails within a decent drive (Garner State park was the closest place and it was 40 miles away). 3. There are two houses close the cabin. The lot where the cabin is located is a long rectangle and thus there are neighbors both north and south of the cabin. We rarely saw the neighbors. Things to Note: 1. No Verizon cell phone coverage (even in the nearest town, Camp Wood) 2. Garner St. Park is at least 40 minutes away. It looks closer on the map, but the road over to Garner State Park is VERY scenic (it is a cool drive) but takes a while to get through. 3. There was only 1 broken old school fishing pole there (the kind with the fishing line tied to the end of a long stick). You should probably bring your own. 4. They had a canoe and 2 kayaks

Owner response: I appreciate the honest review. The river bank is steep and unfortunately I forgot to mention the two ramps that are cut into the river bank. They are not readily apparent unless you know they are there. They allow for easy walking access to the river. They also are at shallow parts of the river which is good for small children.

We had an awesome time during our stay. We loved the cabin and it was comfortable for the 8 of us. It was nice that plenty of towels were provided and the kitchen well stocked. We spent all our time on the patio overlooking the river. The view was great. The Nueces river is gorgeous. Bring your snorkel gear because the water is the clearest I've seen in Texas.

Stayed two nights with my family and extended family, this was the perfect spot for all ages. Whether we were sitting under a tree just enjoying the scenery or playing in the river; it was a perfect get away. I also have to admit that unlike other condos and rentals this cabin is very well stocked with cooking and living essentials. I really couldn't have asked for a better spot.

The decription on the VRBO website says to bring food and clothes and that is truly all you will need! It is extremly well furnished, the kitchen is well stocked with everything you will need. The house is very cute with plenty of room. We had most of our meals out back on the porch, watching the Nueces flow by. We canoed and fished all weekend. My 6 year old daughter loved it and can not wait to go back! We are so happy to have found this property and look forward to many more visits.

We take our kids to a different river in Texas every spring just to reconnect and have some family time. Found this little piece of Heaven and had an amazing time. Cabin was great, cozy and comfortable. River was perfect. Loved how close it is to cabin. We had great time kayaking and canoeing. Also fishing, swimming and just enjoying the outdoors. We were there for three full days and never encountered any other people. Loved how private it was! We are making plans to go back and taking the grandparents. Can't wait to make great memories with the rest of our family.

We had an excellent time at the cabin. It was very comfortable and had all the ammenities anyone could want. The view from the cabin is spectacular and the river was as clear as any river I have ever seen. The fishing was tough in such clear water but we caught enough for a fish fry, oh so good! Best fish ever with no strong fishy taste like in East Texas lakes. The owner did think of everything. The house was clean, could use a few more decorations especially in the upstairs apartment. Overall it was a very neat experience. The owner was very helpful in finding things for us to do in the area. Thanks for sharing this paradise with us.

Very rustic, quiet and peaceful. Kids and grandkids had a great time! Canoe, kayaks and fishing pole availability gave us more options. Plenty of everything we needed, including firewood - we hit the one week where it was quite chilly at night and in the morning. One blessing - no wireless or internet!!! No cell service either for Verizon but good for T-Mobile and AT&T. A wonderful time in a great area!!

My husband and I like to try different Texas rivers every September and we had never been to the Nueces. With the rivers being down due to the drought, we were really having a hard time finding someplace private with water that we could afford. We like our privacy as this is our little time to be together and relax and refresh. We were so happy to find this little hidden gem, The water out front (steps away) was deep enough to actually jump in without touching bottom in spots. My main thing is finding clear cool water to swim in and I was really afraid we weren't going to be able to this year but what a great surprise. All of the amenities of this cabin were just icing on the cake. All in all, this is a great place for a romantic getaway, a family vacation or anything. Lots of space to sleep. Thanks!

We just rented this cabin for 3 nights, 4 days (July 15 thru 18) and can't say enough about it. It may not have a modern look/feel to it, but it is majorly comfortable! The owner has thought of everything as previous reviews have stated. Texas is in a horrid state of drought and believe it or not, this place has ample access to water for fishing and swimming, and we did both! Fished day and night and caught bunches! Unfortunately, the big ones which you can see swimming, the water is THAT clear, managed to elude the fisherpeople in our crowd, but we'll be back in the future to try again! Honestly folks, this cabin is a hidden treasure. Beds extremely comfortable, kitchen is a good size and more than one person can move around at the same time. We loved the covered porch! And the outside sitting area was delightful for morning coffee, and evening beverages too! The cabin is clean and stocked full of everything you might have forgotten at home! We visited the county park one day spent an afternoon swimming there. We also took a drive into Leaky (about 30 minute drive, very scenic) and ended up coming back to the cabin early because it has more water than Leaky/Concan at the moment! We live in south Texas where you wouldn't dare jumping into the Nueces River, but the same river in Camp Wood, at this cabin, is crystal clear, and extremely clean. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and would recommend this cabin to anyone!

Friends and I rented this cabin for a long weekend and had a great time. The river in front of the cabin is 10-12' deep in most places, with perfect seating areas on a rock ledge. There are plenty of perch, bass, and catfish for those who enjoy fishing, and plenty of room for floating and swimming. Each day provided something different - from the views, perfect weather, to the stars and proximity to Camp Wood for delicious BBQ. The amenities allow for privacy and the comfort of sleeping soundly whether with a smaller or larger group. The kitchen is good size for cooking, and the screened porch is great for sitting, card games, etc. The two full bathrooms are very nice, and they have thought of everything when it comes to providing for guests - river towels, bath towels, first aid kit, movies, books, sheets, pillows, full size and mini fridges, large table and bench on pack porch, soap, shampoo, chairs - you name it. We all agreed we would visit again and look forward to it.

This property is always a wonderful stay! I have visited several times with friends and family, most recently in January with my boyfriend for a get away from the cold vacation. While at the cabin I love to catch up on reading, watch movies, play cards on the patio, hike, swim, tube, tan, bike, and relax while watching the sun set over the mountain view (which is quite striking). One of my favorite things to do is to go out once it is completely dark outside and stargaze. The sheer amount and brightness of the stars away from city lights is astounding. The description is very accurate, the house has just about everything you need from sunscreen, shampoo, bug spray, bandaids, linens, cookware and more. The photos do reflect the area, spacious and rustic. The property is clean and well-maintained, with plenty of room for a large group. The air conditioning works very well in the Texas heat and there are also space heaters if by some off chance it actually gets cold. The owners are very helpful and polite, they love this property and it definitely shows. I absolutely recommend this house for anyone who loves the outdoors, beautiful scenery, and cozy areas away from the bustle of the city. I am not a hunter, but I am told that the surrounding areas is very good for going hunting.
