Why the Owner Chose Gore

This house and property were not purchased as a vacation home. Tyler bought the land to live on. He is an outdoorsman. He wanted to have a nice piece of land that made you feel like you were in the woods. He also wanted to live in VA close to his family. He grew up in the Fairfax area. In 2003 he applied and got a job with the US Forest Service as a forester. It was a job that required us to move. We did not want to let this house go, so we thought renting it to vacationers would be the best way to keep the house and be able to use it as well.

Our family was looking for the out of the way kinda place to be able to enjoy time with the Grandchildren and it was found here. The house is large, neat, clean and very very comfortable. The backyard and porch just adds to the beauty. We did not find ourselves needing for a thing as the owners are most thoughtful and sincere. A place to be able to make lasting family memories.

Owner response:Thank you for the wonderful review. We appreciate customer feed back, and welcome any comments our guest leave us.

You have the potential to have a lovely home. However, we found the house rather dirty. Items were left in the fridge, and floors are in need of a thorough cleaning. We did enjoy the quiet, and the porches. Just hate to see your house so neglected.

Visitors from Long Island, NY

My husband and I, along with our two retrievers, spent a very pleasurable two weeks at Gore Get Away. Our children and grandchildren joined us for Memorial Day weekend. Wonderful memories were made that weekend. The trails, fire pit and porches were big hits! Each of us, ages ranging from 1 yr to 70 yrs enjoyed our stay. The deer, rabbits, turtles and many beautiful birds added to the already welcoming environment. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need. Plenty of bath towels and sheets too. Our dogs enjoyed the freedom of the large fenced area. We enjoyed it so much that we've booked another 3 week stay this fall. Thank you for sharing your home.

Owner response:Thank you Regina! Hope your family is having a great summer and we're looking foward to hosting you again in the fall.

Vistors from WV

Our stay at the Gore Getaway was absolutely great! The dogs loved the fenced yard and was right at home and didn't miss a beat in playing and exploring. Being secluded in the woods, brought great bond fires, visitation from an eastern screech owl, many birds, squirrel's, and deers. The morning sunrise on the front porch spectacular. The house was very comfortable and we felt relaxed, got plenty of rest and so enjoyed the "Getaway"!

Spent a long weekend at the Getaway last year and returning in a couple of weeks. This is one of the most enjoyable places to stay in Virginia. Everything you need is right there. I hope to make this a yearly event for my family!!

Wow! What a terrific family getaway!

Guest: Dan and Carolyn (Indianapolis)
Date of Stay: 05/29/10 Review Submitted: 06/08/10

Our family was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Gore Getaway. We all felt like we were on an adventure as we ventured over the narrow bridge and through the gate and up the winding quarter mile driveway to our vacation home. It was very comfortable for our family of six; 2 adults, 4 children ranging in ages from 8-13yrs. There were plenty of towels, pillows, and sheets if you need them. Thank you for having the extras that most places don't provide like: saran wrap, dishwashing soap, spices. Thank you for the last minute accommodation for the wireless internet connection--we needed to stay connected with the home business, keep up on emails, and investigated our destinations through the web. Be careful walking up and down the hardwood stairs, DON'T WEAR SOCKS. We loved the front and back porches and the vast yard for the kids to run around in. The hammock was a fun plus. We hiked the trails on the grounds, played in the stream at the bottom of the hill, told ghost stories and had smores around the campfire. We explored Winchester, Washington DC, Shenandoah Caverns, American Celebrations, Route 11 Potato Chip Factory, Shenandoah National Park, Monticello while visiting the area. P.S. The well water is not that bad at all....that is our opinion, since we have had much worse in Northern and Southeastern Indiana. We all absolutely loved spending time at the Gore Getaway! I didn't want to go home! Thank you Gore Getaway we will visit again in a few years!

Perfect for Family Get Away

Guest: Jolissa (West Virginia)
Date of Stay: 06/29/08 Review Submitted: 08/03/08

The photos do not do the home justice. It is very well maintained. The location is perfect for that 'away from it all' feeling yet is conveniently located within minutes of the main road and approx. 20 minutes from the nearest WalMart. Our five children enjoyed the backyard immensely as well as walking the trails on the property.

As described; Relax and Enjoy

Guest: Bobbe (Lorain, Ohio)
Date of Stay: 11/01/07 Review Submitted: 12/19/07

We rented this home "cold" off the internet. We had done the same last year for another location in Virginia and were really disappointed with the cleanliness/location of the place. However, armed with better questions, we tried again. Success! Delightful owners! Easy to work with! Sincere! Responsive! Honest! Very nice place with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, cozy living room and easy access to Winchester and other beautiful areas. Descriptions of property and its amenities are accurate. Photos are recent. This was an excellent base location for sight seeing and shopping. While there were great hiking opportunities right from the property, we did not take advantage of it. Just relaxing on the wonderful porches on the front and the rear of the home was worth the visit. Good value.
