Location: Gore, Virginia, USA (Near Winchester VA, 2 hours from Washington DC)

Accommodations:  New House, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Situated in the middle of 45, mostly wooded, acres, this house was built in 2000. It features covered front and back porches that offer total privacy. Inside you will find an open floor plan with living room, dining room, and kitchen combined. The large living area includes an entertainment system, ceiling fan, and a woodstove for chilly nights. Also on the first floor are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a queen bed and ceiling fan. The second bedroom contains two twins and a ceiling fan. There is a bathroom with tub/shower conveniently located between the bedrooms. A utility room with washer and dryer completes the ground level.

The second floor consists of a cozy loft and master bedroom. The loft overlooks the living area and is furnished with a futon and a comfortable reading chair. The master bedroom is roomy with a queen bed, Lazy Boy, TV, stereo, ceiling fan, and large bathroom. The view from the master bedroom is outstanding.

Located in the northern Shenendoah Valley near Winchester, Virginia, the Gore Getaway is slightly less than two hours from downtown Washington DC. There is plenty to do on the property including exploring onsite nature trails; playing in the cool, clear, mountain stream, or simply relaxing and taking in the mountain views from the peaceful, secluded porches. Your pets can have fun in the fenced yard or hiking with you on the property.

Now featuring our new bunkhouse, with renovated exterior, for guests who don't mind 'roughing it'. It is intended as additional private sleeping space for larger groups. We recommend guests who plan to use the bunkhouse bring sleeping bags, candles, and flashlights as if they were camping out. The bunkhouse has no modern amenities but does have a creek and an outhouse nearby. The main house is just a short walk up the driveway. Please inquire about additonal charges for bunkhouse use.

If you do decide to venture out there are numerous Civil War battlefields within a short drive of the house. You will also find two national forests and Shenendoah National Park close by. A guest book with information about local attractions is provided. Please note that a four wheel drive vehicle is recommended for access to the house during winter months.

NEW AMENITY. Wireless internet available. Additional fees apply.

Owner Description

Why the Owner Chose Gore

This house and property were not purchased as a vacation home. Tyler bought the land to live on. He is an outdoorsman. He wanted to have a nice piece of land that made you feel like you were in the woods. He also wanted to live in VA close to his family. He grew up in the Fairfax area. In 2003 he applied and got a job with the US Forest Service as a forester. It was a job that required us to move. We did not want to let this house go, so we thought renting it to vacationers would be the best way to keep the house and be able to use it as well.
