We arrived on a windy sunny Sunday afternoon. The house was ready for us, the kitchen fully stocked, the refrigerator stocked with enough breakfast foods to last us for a week, and a large basket of fresh fruits on the dining table. The house was more than big enough for the four of us, with three spacious bedrooms. The house has been remodelled recently and provided us with all of the ammenities. The location is great for those wanting to visit and hike the various trails in the Haleakala National Park, only a 25 minute drive to the park entrance. The house is only 20 minutes drive from Kahului, and a good base for excursions to the Hana side of Maui. Most importantly, the house is in the country, away from neighbors and tourists, with great views of Maui's central valley and a superb place to watch the night sky. The owner came over at our request to provide us with detailed tips of places to go, things to do and see, and "local" tips. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay here.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the coast, this beautiful property in upcountry Maui is the perfect place! The owner went out of her way to make the stay comfortable with beautiful flowers and wonderful breakfast selections. (She is also very knowledgeable about the area and willing to help in any way she can) The house and yard are simply lovely! And the back deck is perfect for bird watching, relaxing or star gazing. You won't believe how quiet it is!! This VRBO far exceeded my expectations!!

Great vacation home! We highly recommend this lovely, comfortable, well-stocked and spotlessly clean house. The location is terrific - we were looking for a place close to the airport ( 20 mins) and not in a high tourist, high traffic area. The days were warm, but because we were up in the hills, the nights were cool. We were 5 adults who did not want to stay at a resort but rather we wanted to be together in one space and to see what Maui was really like. We had just come from the Big Island and had stayed at some gorgeous houses, but this home was our favorite. The owner, Kili, was so welcoming and is such an extraordinary person that she made our vacation forever memorable. She filled the refrigerator with lots of food ( not leave the house for breakfast was terrific - instead, we munched on pineapple & fresh fruits, toasted bagels, ate omelets and yogurt out on the deck.) She also gave us wonderful recommendations for local restaurants that we never would have found on our own. In addition, she told us which beaches to go to, what towns had the best island shopping, etc., etc. - Kili ( and her husband Michael) know all things about Maui and are valuable resources. The photos are accurate, but can not show the charm of the property. From the large deck, which has a table & chairs plus comfortable loungers, you can see the water and beautiful sunsets, while you are in the midst of fruit trees and flowers and bushes covered with butterflies. We found that we were about 20 minutes from anything that we wanted to do. Child-friendly home too! We never got to drive the road to Hana, although Kili strongly recommended that we do so -- therefore, we shall return, and we would not think of staying anywhere but here. We cannot thank Kili enough for all she did for us. We found a perfect vacation home and we all feel we made a friend. Maholo!

If you are looking for a place that is removed from the tourist crowds, somewhere quiet, in a relatively good location to hit Haleakala, take off on the "Road to Hana", see the Lavender farm, close proximity to Makawao and some of Maui's best Winery's, than this is the place to stay. Kili does a great job of making you feel right at home. There is plenty of room for a large family. There were five of us staying during our 6 night stay. The porch on the back is large and has plenty of views of the valley below and mountain above. Though there are several homes in the area, the noise was minimal and very little road traffic. As a bread & breakfast place Kili provided more than enough food for breakfast during our stay, matter of fact we had to put some of it in the freezer becasue we couldn't eat it all. Kili, kudos to you for a very special place, if we are back on Maui in the near future we will be booking our stay with you. Thanks again for everything.

Wow! Where do I begin? My husband grew up in West Virginia, known as "Almost Heaven, West Virginia" from the song. However, Kili's piece of Paradise would be a close second. Our Cuban born daughter-in-law knew she was in the land of plenty when she saw the papaya trees and the basket of fresh fruit awaiting our arrival. We had come to Hawaii for our daughter's wedding in Honolulu on August 31st. After a week of 'city life', we were ready for a slower, more relaxed time, so we headed to Maui and Kili's piece of heaven. The pictures do not do justice to her home. We were welcomed by fresh flower arrangements, a basket of fresh fruit, enough breakfast items to feed a small army, a serene setting, and a cool mountain breeze to cocoon ourselves in while we enjoyed the chorus of the birds. The house was beautiful with enough room to accommodate my husband and me, our son and daughter-in-law, our three and a half year grandson, and our eleven month old granddaughter. We were fortunate enough to meet Kili and Michael our first night there when they delivered gas for the grill. What a wonderful couple who provided us with helpful information for our excursions during our stay. Our most memorable ones were the complete loop of "The Road to Hana", which included beautiful cascading waters, a visit to the Black Sand Beach, a hike into the bamboo forest, and the return trip on the back road where we experienced a completely different view of the island. The Maui Ocean Center and the baby beach both were instant hits with the little ones. Lahaina was such an interesting town that we had to visit it twice. Our last morning, we arose at 4:00 AM and made the drive to Haleakala Crater to see the sunrise. As Kili suggested, we took a trail beyond the Visitor's Center and hiked to the rim of the crater for a better view. To sit serenely, bundled in Kili's blankets, and watch the sunrise above the clouds was an unforgettable experience- a God-filled moment. After a brief stay of three nights, we sadly bid farewell to Kili's corner of heaven and headed home to Minnesota and Virginia. Would we return here? In a heartbeat! I pray we can all experience this paradise again in the near future. We have told all of our friends about this wonderful house and friendly couple. Thank you Michael and Kili for a refreshing, recharging, and peaceful vacation spot.. Fondly, The Hawses, John & Barbara, VA ; John, Gresin, John & Olivia, MN

We finally took our family on the Hawaiian vacation we always dreamed of. We arrived in Maui and spent the first six night in Kiehi and did all of the fun touristy activities including lots of snorkeling and beach time. Little did we know that the next four days at Ke Kihapai B&B would be our favorite time in Maui. We discovered so many new and wonderful treasures during our time there - Makawao, Piai, Road to Hana (the entire loop!), Haleakala at sunrise, Hali'imaile General Store, just to name some of the highlights. The home is so charming and decorated in the Hawaiian style, it's clean and comfortable. Our family of five (including 3 teen/college aged kids) felt very much at home. We were greeted with fresh tropical flower arrangements in each room, as well as, a huge fruit basket filled with fresh bananas, papayas, pineapple, star fruit and more. The refrigerator stocked with eggs, breakfast sausage, breads, juice, milk, cheese...everything we needed to have a delicious breakfast each morning. We didn't even touch the cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, etc. in the pantry! The flowers and trees on the property amazed us, imagine having Avocados and Papaya in one's yard...we delighted in surveying all of the flora and fauna and took lots of photos. The deck is huge and the view was fabulous, both day and night. Though, we hardly had enough time to enjoy it all. That is our one regret, next time we will stay here for the entire time, as we now know that the beaches are but a short drive away. We had the good fortune to meet Kili, the owner, and her husband and kids, since we visited during the Christmas/New Year holiday. Mahalo to them for sharing their special place!

Absolutely loved our stay at this house in upcountry. Very clean and practical layout, each of our kids had their own bedroom which worked well. The owner is beyond helpful and the breakfast food included was great, including eggs, bacon, bread and a huge basket of fresh fruit with Maui pineapple, bananas, papayas and more. Beyond that the kitchen is extremely well stocked with coffee and other sundries. We also picked fresh, giant avacados right off the tree outside and enjoyed the singing birds every day. The first morning we woke up at 4AM (jet lag) and went outside on the huge deck - more stars than you can imagine with the Milky Way clearly visable across the sky! A great place if you want to be away from the crowds and see a different part of the island.

We stayed at Ke Kihapai for two weeks in late January and early February. It was a great way to experience Maui, very different from our earlier stays on the Valley Isle. The house is in a semi-rural area 3500 feet up the slopes of Haleakala. It sits alone on a beautifully landscaped plot, with a small plumeria orchard on the property (not in bloom in the winter). The nearest neighbor is at least a hundred yards away. The nearest store, a Long's Drug, is three miles away. That's good and bad; good for quiet and solitude, which were very welcome after two weeks in Waikiki, but inconvenient for getting the daily paper, groceries, etc. The house itself was immaculately clean, and kept so by a housekeeper who came in three times during our stay. It was equipped with everything we needed for our extended stay. It's styled a bed and breakfast, but not in the conventional sense of the owner serving breakfast daily. Rather, she provided lots of eggs, bacon, orange juice, bread, cereal, coffee, and fresh fruit, for us to make our own breakfast according to our preferences, which suited us fine. If you are looking for a quiet retreat in upcountry Maui, and don't mind driving 10-15 minutes every time you want to buy something or go to a restaurant, Ke Kihapai is an excellent choice.
