Montpellier apartment description

Travel back in time to this 18th century city where people walk to shops, cafes and restaurants and wake up to the sound of church bells, birds and the murmur of neighbors enjoying café in the streets below. You will enjoy the exquisite pleasures of gourmet food, wine, confit de canard, foie gras and truffles. Set in the center of Montpellier’s beautiful historic pedestrian-only district on a narrow carriage street of glowing creamy gold-beige marble, our fully restored 18th century apartment welcomes and invites you, your family, and your friends to stay a while. Originally built in the 17th century, the apartment now has everything you need to make it your base of operations while exploring this remarkable part of Southern France. Montpellier has its own Arc de Triomphe, the exquisite Musee Fabre, two opera houses, and one of the largest squares in Europe - exploring the city is a joy and can easily and happily encompass the entire scope of your stay. The city has a great music scene and there is always something happening in this very vibrant, active university town. Montpellier is also a great base for exploring Southern France, located 10km from some of the nicest beaches in the Mediterranean.
The South of France is world famous for its consistently sunny weather, the beautiful blue of the sky and sea and the relaxed yet chic atmosphere. The Montpellier area is particularly blessed with miles of white sand beaches, coastal lagoons full of oysters and mussels and the Camargue Nature Reserve, with black bulls, wild white horses and a myriad of bird life including thousands of pink flamingos. Tour nearby chateaux and abbeys and dine on wonderful gourmet meals. Kayak, sail, kite surf, dive, fish, or swim in the Mediterranean or just bask in the sun.
Enjoy the Mediterranean end of the famous Canal du Midi, lined with sycamore trees, lilies and lovely villages. The Canal is perfect for a long walks and picnics. Explore truly amazing engineering that has functioned for over 300 years, including the nearby Fonséranes staircase – nine ancient locks, the famous aqueduct over the Orb.
Also, enjoy tasting the acclaimed regional wines of the Languedoc. In this relatively small area there are thirty appellations. Over the last 20 years Languedoc has actively remade itself with a focus on quality production and organic wines. Visiting some of the award wining wineries, driving country roads through the vines and picnicking in the country side is a great way to spend a day or two.
Nîmes is less than an hour away and is spectacular for its Roman history and sites including the best preserved Aréna and Roman temple in the world. A short drive from Nîmes is the Pont du Gard, the Roman built aqueduct to serve Nîmes and the third most visited site in France. Provence is also next door, less than a 90 minute drive. Shop for antiques and enjoy weekend flea markets in Isle-sur-la-Sorge, and visit Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Orange, Arles, Aix, and Avignon, for example.
Finally, return each evening to relax in your own private apartment. With your fresh market purchases only a minute away, you may make your own coq au vin in the fully-equipped, gourmet kitchen. Or walk to one of the 100s of great restaurants in Montpellier (including a three star Michelin) to enjoy the local cuisine.
The apartment is roughly half of the third floor of the building and is very spacious with wonderful light coming from windows on three sides. Enter into the living room with comfortable French antique furniture, bookcases with a mix of French and English selections, rich walnut parquet floors and decorative aubusson carpeting, a marble fireplace, beautiful crystal chandelier, antique candelabras and a surround sound stereo and wide screen TV inside a 17c antique buffet. The adjacent dining room seats 10 easily and has two floor to ceiling window-doors with balconies to the street below and a marble fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen is located off the dining room. The master bedroom is very spacious with a hotel quality king bed and its own lounge and antique chairs for private reflection and relaxation. It also has a marble fireplace with an antique mirror extending from the mantle to the antique molding in the ceiling providing wonderful color reflections from the crystal chandelier. The Master room also has floor to ceiling windows with amazing curtains, a huge antique armoire with his and her sides, air conditioning, and its own speaker system for your iPod. It also has a private full bath with a shower built for two, custom stonework and heated towel rack. The two guest rooms have cherry parquet floors, antique armoires, air conditioning and hotel quality queen sized beds. The luxurious guest bathroom is of modern design and just rebuilt with an all glass spacious shower, heated towel rack and closet washer and dryer.
Weekly rental is from Saturday to Saturday with possible discounts for more than a one week stay. Winter rentals are available at very attractive rates.
Our apartment is self catering, for people wanting local holiday accommodation rather than a hotel. You can buy food, cook your own meals, wash your clothes, go for a run, chill out and have a good night’s sleep - a home away from home, amongst the locals. Before you arrive, the staff has thoroughly cleaned the home. It is clean, fresh and stocked with initial necessities (e.g. paper products, soap). You’re in someone’s home, and you’ll feel a part of it in a very special way.

It's such a pleasure to deal with the owner of this apartment, Katherine and her agents. They were kind, honest, professional and prompt. The apartment itself is beautiful, clean, roomy, and centrally located in the historic part of town. The bathrooms and kitchen are modern and updated. And the laundry has both washer and dryer (not common in Europe). It's truly a gem. Thank you Katherine, for your hospitality.

My friends and I enjoyed this luxury apartment immensely. It was worth all the $$ and even the 96 steps (including the landings) up and down were well worth it. The surrounding environment, including the two restaurants below us, was exactly what I dreamed of. The authentic antique furniture, even a Napoleonic mirror!, flowered balconies, the up-do-date appliances were unexpected, but much appreciated. We did need help from time to time and it was provided by a wonderful young gentleman who did all he could to make our stay comfortable. I didn't really expect to like France all that much, having heard many negative stories, but I came away with a deep love for the people we met, the many kindnesses shown us and its incredible history and beauty. Finally, I send my deep appreciation of the exquisite remodeling and the interior decor. It gladdened the soul as well as delighted the eyes. Thank you so much.

This rental has it all! Charm, location, clean, spacious, wonderfully updated. The kitchen and baths were beautifully updated, and the baths were the largest I have ever experienced in europe! I can't say enough about our stay. It was beyond expectations. Close to restaurants, shops, tram and train. Wonderful location for exploring the south of France. We were welcomed by Monique who generously stocked us with coffee, bread, butter and jam, so appreciated after a long flight and drive. Owners left many restaurants and shops in the area, and our best meal was at Bistrot td'Alco, one of their recommendations. If you are looking to enjoy the French lifestyle, this is the place for you. Shop at the halles, or markets, take a stroll for croissants in the morning, wonderful day trips await, Nime, Avignon, the beach. I would definitely recommend this lovely apartment to friends and relatives. The only downside was we only had a week.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

This apartment is a very special find, restored to a very high standard and superbly placed to enjoy all that the city of Montpellier offers. It has tons of lovely antique features and furniture but the facilities are nothing but modern and well equipped, you feel like you are in a beautiful French atmosphere with all the mod cons. Everything is spotlessly clean, well stocked and very well maintained. There was hamper waiting for us on our late arrival which was very welcome and gave us a good breakfast until we had chance to get to the shops. Within a three minute walk there is a bakery, wine shop and cheese deli, possibly the best in Montpellier plus a 'corner shop' and lots of other shopping. There is a great little restaurant tucked away just opposite the front door of the building and to the right but as with all great cities there is lots of choice. We certainly recommend and will hopefully revisit the apartment again soon.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

My husband and I spent four days in this apartment in the center of Montpellier last fall during our trip to France. The renovation of the apartment is amazing--we saw photos of the "before" and "after." The plaster detail, color choice, chandeliers, flooring, and antique furnishings all contributed to the feeling that we had stepped back to an earlier and more elegant time period. On the other hand, the up-to-date bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances are a clear reminder of how convenient modern living can be. The ceilings are high, beds are extra long, mattresses and linens are luxurious, towels are plush, and the kitchen is fully equiped for cooking. We were happy to see that the apartment had both a washer and a dryer. The neighborhood is full of interesting shops and good restaurants. We went around the corner every morning to purchase warm croissants at a local bakery (one of several), then ate them at the cafe at the ground floor of our building. We tried three area restaurants recommended by the apartment owners, two of which were within a few blocks of the apartment, and loved all of them. We are now big fans of duck confit. There is a Michelin-rated restaurant in a local hotel that offers a tasting menu (including local wines) for under 100 euros. It is supposed to be three courses, but other small courses appeared in between the original three. Our meal lasted for several hours. We will definitely go back--both to that restaurant, and to this lovely apartment in beautiful Montpellier. Note that there is no elevator in the apartment building, and the high ceilings translate to a couple of long flights of stairs. The walk up is a good way to work off all those croissants!
