Truro house description
Built in 2010, our V-shaped 1440 sq. ft. house has an elegantly open feel to it. The sky-lighted cathedral ceiling arches expansively over the living room-dining room-kitchen, and the whole area is paneled in light pickled pine.
The main room opens out through two large French doors onto a lawn encircled by Cape Cod pines where you can relax on adirondack chairs or sit around a glass table with umbrella. A propane grill sits on the lawn near the house for evening cookouts.
To the west of the main room is a spacious post-and-beam screened eating porch that provides refuge from the summer sun and a quiet place for reading or conversation.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a stainless steel refrigerator including large freezer and ice-maker, a dishwasher, gas stove, and microwave. A long birchwood island separates the kitchen from the living room area. Furnishings include a comfortable modern sofa, two cherry rockers, a wood stove, and off to the side an antique cherry dining table with seating for six.
You enter the sleeping wing of the house through a lighted hallway that has a utility room (with washer and dryer) and a full bath on the left, and two bedrooms on the right. Both bedrooms have their own closets and large sliding glass doors that lead out to the lawn. One of the bedrooms has a twin bed with a twin trundle that slides under it. The other has a double-sized fold-out sofa (with an extra foam mattress for softness, if you wish), and a high definition TV connected to a blu ray DVD player for streaming Netflix movies.
At the end of the hall is a master bedroom suite that includes its own private bathroom with shower, a roomy walk-in closet, and two desks. This bedroom also has large sliding glass doors that lead out to the lawn.
The sliding glass doors in all three bedrooms have pull-down blinds that screen out the sunlight in the morning.
Outdoors there is ample parking both in the dirt driveway and on the back lawn. There is also an outdoor shower and a storage area for refuse on the back side of the house.
On beyond the back lawn and down the hill there is a geological dip in the land (which people on the Cape call a 'kettle'). We've made a little trail that winds down into the woodsy kettle and offers an inviting walk.
Just a half mile to the east of our house are the beautiful beaches of Cape Cod Bay, and about a mile to the west is the National Sea Shore with its many spectacular ocean beaches. Five miles to the northwest is charming old Provincetown which is bursting with museums, concerts, movie theaters, spas and salons, superb restaurants, and water sports.
North Truro is a quiet village, and our house is in a woodsy little cul de sac, but nearby there is all the tourist entertainment you could possibly dream of!
Keywords: This house is set back from the road on a small cul de sac close to Cape Cod Bay.

About the owner: I'm a psychologist with a private practice in Northampton, MA. My wife, Katharine, and I live in Northampton, but I have been enjoying summers in Truro since 1960. I love the sun, the beaches, the surf, the biking and the hiking, the food, and of course the people, many of whom I've known for 50 years! Truro is paradise on earth for me!
