Capannori house description
Built in 1710, this gorgeous Italian home was gutted down to its beams from 2008-2010 and remodeled into a luxurious modern retreat. No expense was spared in the renovation, and you'll appreciate the attention to detail!
A gourmand's dream, the full eat-in kitchen was designed by a professional chef and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. It boasts an 8-burner double convection oven and indoor BBQ pit. Private cooking lessons, or a private chef can be arranged as well.
The main quarters of Casa Zio span the 2nd-4th floors. The second floor features a large, modern kitchen, living room, and private terrace overlooking the Tuscan countryside. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one ensuite, one guest bath) occupy the third floor and a stunning master suite — with a whirlpool bathtub — is on the 4th floor.
Two of the three bedrooms include an en-suite bath, the third bathroom (near the third bedroom but not en-suite), also doubles as a guest bath. All bathrooms were meticulously built and include details like handcrafted tile work, heated floors, and heated towel racks.
Imagine yourself enjoying a glass of wine on the private balcony, overlooking the Lucca valley and its picture-postcard Tuscan views. You'll think you're living in a movie!
If you're looking for an authentic Italian experience, this is for you! The house is located in a tiny town, where you'll get to know the locals as you stroll to the bar for your morning cappuccino.
Located just minutes from the town of Lucca, and a short train ride from Florence, it makes a perfect countryside home-base for an Italian adventure — or a private getaway where you can relax, cook and eat with friends.
There is also an apartment available for rent on the first floor: Appartamento Ronaldo is a one-bedroom suite with a bathroom, sitting room, and kitchen with a 4-burner gas stove and convection oven, with heated floors throughout.
Casa Zio and Appartamento Ronaldo share a street entrance, but have private interior entrances.

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: I am a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, and owner and chef at the Schellville Grill in Sonoma, CA.
Why the Owner Chose Capannori:
I initially came to Italy to learn more about the art of Italian cooking. While there, the owner of a restaurant I was working at said, 'You come here enough. It's about time you bought a home here. You love it here, buy a house!' She found this home for me, and the rest is history.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I love walking out my front door and greeting all the local old ladies on my way to the bar for my first cappuccino of the day. The local people are really one of my favorite things about coming here. On Sundays, I love sitting on the private balcony and looking over the Lucca valley.
