Stunning Tuscan Cottage in the Heart of Sonoma's Wine Country
- Minimum stay:2 nights

- Wheel chair accessible:No
Set among the legendary hills of Glen Ellen that adventurer Jack London made famous in his novels, our Guest Cottage shares the same pristine views that drew London to settle here. Just minutes outside of the charming village, this sumptuous 11-acre estate enjoys complete privacy and is designed to fully embrace the wine country lifestyle.
Take the two-lane road from the village of Glen Ellen then up the private drive to Villa Bacchus and find yourself in a sunny, secluded retreat designed with every element you need to relax, play and celebrate with friends and family. Architect and nationally known artist, Dennis Ziemienski, created a stunning contemporary expression of wine country living that is in harmony with the land and its history.
The driveway circles around a tall fountain, and the main house, the guest house and the garage all border on the drive. The buildings design was inspired by Andrea Palladio, a Renaissance master, and one of the most influential architects in the Western world. His concepts have been translated into a sophisticated estate that surrounds you with luxurious details that satisfy all your desires for relaxation and recreation in an elegant, yet comfortable manner.
The spacious guest house (1450 sq ft) shares the architectural design of the main home and special design details abound. The ground floor has a full kitchen with birdseye maple cabinets, a Wolf range and oven, stainless appliances, a dishwasher and concrete counters with an adjoining dining area.
A faux painted arch opens to the large living room and its soft burnt umber walls, travertine floors and Venetian Murano lights that hang from a vaulted ceiling. Spend some quiet time in front of the fireplace as you enjoy the comfortable seating arrangement. Double doors lead out to a café table and chairs that face the central fountain.
The bathroom is on the main floor and features a tiled, glass-front shower, and a freestanding vanity with an ultra-modern sink on a “floating” concrete counter.
Tile floors in the entryway and the stairs are coated with a copper patina for a subtle metallic sheen. A bedroom suite occupies the entire second story with its views of the hillsides and glass doors that open to a “Juliet” balcony, which overlooks the central fountain. A king bed, desk and seating area make this a tranquil place to unwind.
The estate's owners (and their two dogs) reside in the main house and are available to assist you in planning your visit, but are far enough away to provide you with complete privacy.

As the other reviews indicate, this cottage is very nice. In addition to the beautiful setting, Joshua is the consumate host. Without being intrusive, he made sure we had everything we needed, gave us suggestions on where to dine and what we could do and even did some personal things for us during our stay. You will not go wrong if you choose to stay here. The location is just right for visiting Sonoma, Napa and also the coast. The property looks good in the pictures and it looked just as good in person. I would highly recommend staying at this property.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed at this property for a little getaway and loved every minute of it. The cottage is located about 5 minutes off of the beaten path making you feel like you are away from it all when in fact you are close to everything. There are wonderful wineries, restaurants and hiking paths within a 5 minute car ride. The place its self is nice. Very updated and cozy. Every night we lit a fine, lounged on the super fluff and comfy couch, drank wine and relaxed. It was heaven. Joshua was extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. He even had a cute little welcome package ready when we arrived. The only issue I had initially with renting this home is that they require cash or check upfront and do not take credit card or paypal. In the past this has been an issue so I was very reluctant but they of course turned out to be very honest and great to work with. I am a frequent renter off of the VRBO and would definitely put this place at the top of my list.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Better than advertised! You will not be disappointed in this stunning Tuscan cottage. My husband and I spent a week at the cottage - taking advantage of all of the amentities, especially enjoying a glass (or two) of wine by the fire on those cool California nights. Josuha was the perfect host, giving us helpful hints on places to eat and visit, while maintaining the perfect distance to give us privacy and quiet time. Glen Ellen is the perfect location, close to wineries, area hiking trails, and shopping. Kitchen is perfect for a homemade meal, although excellent restaurants near by. We will definitely return. I actually felt rested and recharged after my week at the cottage! Imagine, none of the hassels of a hotel - no elevator or hallway noise, no slamming doors, no housekeeping knocks on the door.....simply perfect. The pups are sweet, so even "non-dog people" won't be bothered or threatened. Enjoy!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I decided to visit Napa and Sonoma for the first time as an alternative to vacationing in our favorite destination, Tuscany, Italy. Joshua and Tim's guest cottage satisfied our desire to spend a week in a picturesque, quiet, tasteful and convenient estate in the midst of wine country. They could not have been more gracious hosts or more astute travel advisors. The accommodations were spotless, modern, and lovely: a great kitchen to prepare meals, a beautiful patio in the sun, up to date technology and a comfortable bed. Glen Ellen is an adorable little town with surprisingly good restaurants and certainly within an easy drive to vineyards, art and wonderful hiking. There is an excellent market in town as well. We could not have been happier with our choice of accommodations.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tuscan Cottage. Everything was top quality and beautifully maintained. We cooked several meals during our stay since it had a great kitchen and top quality appliances. The location is very quiet and peaceful. We slept with the windows open every night and it was always very comfortable. Joshua was extremely friendly and helpful. He gave great recommendations for restaurants, wineries, and places to hike. Don't miss Jack London State Park. We highly recommend this as a place to stay in Wine Country. We have stayed at many VRBO properties and this was our favorite experience.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Beautiful villa in heavily forested hills. Quiet. Many deer. Very helpful hosts. In my opinion, this is the most beautiful area of the Sonoma/Napa valleys. Plan on returning.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My wife, toddler, and I really enjoyed the time we spent at the Cottage. It is in a very peaceful and idyllic location in the small town of Glen Ellen. There were many delicious eating options nearby as well as a multitude of wineries for tasting. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and very spacious. You can tell the owners take a lot of pride in their home, from the beautiful landscaping around the house to all the little details in decorating the cottage as well as the exterior of their home. Lastly, we really appreciated the owners Joshua and Tim for their hospitality. They were extremely courteous and really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you! We hope to visit again someday.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We enjoyed a delightful, last-minute, 3-night stay at Villa Bacchus. The guest house is fantastic, comfortable, and peaceful. Only the best materials, appliances, fixtures, and appointments were used to construct and decorate the cottage. The grounds are beautiful, and we were also provided access to enjoy the great views in back of the main house. Joshua and Tim were impeccable hosts, yet we only saw either about once a day, so we felt quite private. They also provided excellent tips for restaurants, stores, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: We have been living in the Sonoma Valley since 1998. We came to the area thinking we had found a place for vacations and weekends and like many others found that the setting and the lifestyle were so suited for us, that we settled here permanently. We have two beautiful and friendly Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs who love nothing better than to lounge outside and drink in the sunny weather! We have traveled extensively around the world and have yet to find a location that matches what we have found in Glen Ellen!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Beyond the obvious wine tasting - which is certainly a remarkable benefit of the area - Sonoma is perfectly situated for a wide variety of sports, culture and culinary delights. Tennis courts are readily available; both road and mountain biking are some of the best in the country; and, there are several world-class golf course just minutes from cottage. And Sonoma is at the heart of the culinary revolution in America. There are several weekly farmer's markets within a short drive and countless world class restaurants.
