Estes Park cottage description
The place 'Where Memories are Made!'
Historic and cozy getaway. This comfortable cottage is an ideal getaway for families, or for the couple who would like some privacy and space. You can't get any closer to the river as the back patio looks out over the river, and so does the screened porch. If you want to get a little closer, open the gate and take the few steps over the river. You can fish from the steps or just take in the sound and feeling that only running water can provide.
Enjoy the private master bedroom with oversized log Queen bed.
The 2nd main floor bedroom has a queen size bed with a window that opens to the river.
The loft is a fun place for the kids to be with two twin beds and open playing space.
Extra guests can sleep on the Queen sized sofa sleeper in the living room with a new memory foam matress.
Full kitchen comes complete with eating and cooking utinsels, microwave, oven, stove, and fridge.
We hope you enjoy our 'River Run Cottage' as much as we do and that this spot will leave you with memories that last a lifetime, and the desire to come back year after year!

We stayed at the river run cabin over the 4th of July. There were 4 adults and 4 children, we will definitely be staying there again!! The beds were comfortable, the childrens space was clean, we loved being able to eat right next to the river and watching netflix or playing games in the evening. We went fishing but weren't lucky enough to catch anything. The bathroom was a little small, but it wasn't a problem since we were expecting it. Everything looked exactly like it did in the VRBO video, and everything was exactly as described. Thanks for an amazing vacation!!

Close to Estes Park and the River
Great historic rustic cottage right next to the river. Very spacious for us, two people and a small dog. Loved the quirks that come with an older place, and loved the screened in porch, could not get any closer to the river without being in it! Our timing was off on the weather, warmer than normal but the cottage stayed pleasant inside during the day with all of the windows open, and was comfortable at night. Have a nice fenced in area for a dog, but our guy is picky, he must have grass, and this time of year, there wasn't a patch to be found so we had to walk him in front near the road. We just made sure we went every morning to the awesome dog park in Estes so he could burn off some energy and take care of business first thing. Nice people there and the town also has a good dog daycare. The only reason I did not give 5 stars, is that the bathroom is TINY and takes some coordination with multiple people, and the enclosed patio area needs a good cleaning, if nothing else to remove all of the cobwebs that I am sure accumulate frequently. Maybe the cleaning service needs a reminder...

Owner response: We are happy you enjoyed your stay by the river. If you're ever back in the area look us up again. We start our demolition on the bathroom at the end of this month, so next year we'll have a nice, new, bigger, bathroom! I am sorry about the cob webs. The cabin was cleaned two days before your arrival and I'm afraid this time of the year the cob webs outside are a daily fight. Thanks for leaving the cabin nice a tidy! We hope to see you again in the future.
The good; the sound of the river is great, beds are comfortable The bad; Be prepared, VERY SMALL bathroom, no storage for food or clothing The ONE bathroom is 2.5 by 10 feet. Sit on the very small toilet and you bang your head on the wall opposite. You get one towel per person for the week and no washing machine. Totally inadequate for 8, we were 4 and hated it. There were two wire hangers in the entire house. One dresser in one bedroom, along with the one downstairs closet. Be prepared, your clothes will be on the floor, draped over furniture or in the suitcase. The small bedroom has no space at all, it holds the bed and you use an office space off the living room with no door as your closet and changing area. The upstairs bedroom, which was used as closet, was so hot at the end of the day as to be unusable. The small windows and small fan provided little relief. You eat in the porch by the river. Be prepared, bring your own trays to carry food and dishes because none are provided. There were lots of trips to carry our meals in and out up and down the stairs. The kitchen was incredibly small with no storage space for any food. Be prepared, bring some boxes for strorage. The assortment of beat up pots and pans was the worst I had ever seen in a rental. The coffe pot was very dirty. There is no dish washer so plan time to wash and use the limited counter space for the drying rack. There are no small plates. One big plate per person. 8 would stretch the limits. There were no wine glasses or wine opener, when asked about it the owner just said no. So bring your own if you want to have a glass by the river. The location does not provide very good cell phone service. Be prepared. There is no tv, save Netflix. Be prepared if you want more than PG you will have to call and ask the owner to allow it. When we looked at this before we left there were no negative comments and the positives looked pretty good. After we arrived and saw the limitations we looked again and noted that the owners had submitted most of the comments. Can't recommend this to more than two small people. We will not be returning to this cabin but if you choose to stay just be prepared.

Owner response: Dear Renters, We are a little surprised by this review. The items discussed here are clearly spelled out in our listing and shown clearly in our video. In case you didn't notice, our cottage was built in 1905... I suspect that there are some rentals that are as spacious as you would like, but please "be prepared" to spend 2 or 3 times more than the River Run rates. Feel confident in knowing that all comments are from River Run renters. If they include a star rating the comments are from those renters that have taken the time and energy to submit a review after their stay. Those comments that do not have a star rating were input directly from the comments left in our guest book. If mismatched pots and pans are a frustration to you, if you need a kitchen larger than that shown, or if walking down the 5 or so steps so you can eat next to the river is to much, then perhaps this is not the best housing choice for you. However, if you know how to wash dishes by hand, like the cozy feel and history of a cottage built on the river in your grandfather's day, and like the sound and feel of the river; we think you will enjoy River Run as much as we do! Thanks, Shane & Lisa

Great location right on the river. Plenty of room overall at the cottage. Kitchen and bathroom are a bit small, but no big deal. Lock on the front door is a bit tricky. Overall, a great place to stay that I would like to go back to. I would recommend to friends and relatives. Very fairly priced and the listing described it well.

Couldn't use the shower!
Couldn't use the shower!
The bathroom is terrible in this cabin! There is no water pressure. Sludge in the drains backed up into the shower and we could not use it for our 5 days. Although we let them know about the problem they only came to snake the drain the night before we were leaving for the new guests arriving the following day. Although they allow dogs they complained about dog hair that was transferred to their furniture and claimed they needed to steam clean their furniture. Although we left the cabin neat and tidy, and the cabin is quite rustic, they complained about the condition we left it in. We have rented many places in Estes Park and for the price this place is nothing special. We won't be renting this place again as it seems their rules and expectations are ridiculous considering the cabin is very rustic. Treating your dog with frontline 3 days before you get to the cabin? Come on! No smoking, anywhere on the property?! We had smokers, were they supposed to walk down the road to smoke, they always smoked outside. We did not bring a kennel for our dog as he is 85 lbs and it would have taken all the space in our car. But we kept him in the back room with the stained indoor/outdoor carpet and made sure he was walked and went outside to go to the bathroom. I even brushed him to keep the hair to a minumum. These owners are very picky, and complained about us so they would not have to reimburse us for the backed up shower which we plunged continuously so it would not leak onto the floor.

Owner response: Dear Renter, We are sorry that your stay with us did not exceed your expectations. We work hard to get the reviews and reports that are exhibited by the rest of our tenants. We do feel it is important to point out a few items of clarification for individuals who may read your review: - We offered to come up to look at the drain when you reported it to us. You were heading out but said you would call back if it was not remedied by the time you returned. You did not call back until the night before your departure which is when we came up to fix the drain issue (even though it was after dark and you said we didn't need to). - While we are pet friendly and allow our guests to bring their pets with them, we are also driven to ensure that River Run is clean and enjoyable for our non-pet renters as well. As you mentioned, our contract requires our pet owners to kennel their dogs when they are gone. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture. If you can not agree to these terms, please do not sign the contract while full well planning to violate the terms of the agreement. Because of this violation, our entire cleaning crew had to spend an extra hour to properly prepare the cabin for our next guests. -We are a non-smoking facility. This is clearly spelled out in our site, and in the contract. It is again emphasized in the letter you receive before arriving at River Run. If you can not agree to these terms, please do not sign the contract while full well planning to violate the terms of the agreement. Thank You, Shane & Lisa
Great Family Getaway
Great Family Getaway
This cabin was perfect for our family getaway. It sleeps 8 comfortably and is ideally located on the Big Thompson River about 10 minutes outside of town. It is literally only steps away from the river. There is a screened-in porch to eat meals outside with a propane grill to prepare dinner. The porch swing in the backyard is a great for relaxing. There was even a wood stove outside, but due to the fire restrictions in Colorado, we did not use it. We loved the decor, especially in the living room. Netflix is a nice touch for the watching movies. There are family board games and children's toys for the little ones to enjoy. There are many small touches like this that make this cottage getaway special. The kitchen has most of the basic condiments and spices, along with cooking utensils, pots and pans, and enough dishes for up to 8 people. There are plenty of blankets for everyone to use. There was even a zip-line for outdoor fun. Even though it is on a busy highway, inside the cottage we never heard the traffic. But, the sound of the river was so relaxing and wonderful to fall asleep to each night. We loved the fact that there is a lot of history to the cottage with many small touches that make it special. We highly recommend this little cottage and will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Estes Park.

Owner response: So glad you enjoyed your stay next to the river. We hope to see you again at River Run Cottage.
My husband, daughter and son-in-law, two small grandchildren and I rented River Run Cottage for our vacation in Estes Park. The cottage and our overall experience was exceptional. The cottage was clean, adorably decorated and situated perfectly on the Big Thompson River near the town of Estes Park. The cottage was clean, the beds were very comfortable and the kids loved the upstairs bedroom which they considered to be their own little retreat. We fished, made s'mores and enjoyed the beautiful view of the River from the outdoor swing every evening and during the day explored the RMNP. We had a very memorable trip and were even able to bring our dog with us. Thanks to the Walkers for letting us use their vacation home and their hospitality. We will definitely be back in the years to come and highly recommend River Run Cottage as a perfect place to stay in Estes Park.

Great Cabin on the River
Great Cabin on the River
We booked River Run for seventeen days and wish it could have been longer! The cabin is just down the canyon from Estes. However, once you step out on the back deck, enjoy a meal at the large table in the screened porch, or simply sit in the fenced back yard, you are only aware of the soothing sounds of the river and you have plenty of privacy and have the backwoods sensation of what Colorado was like decades ago. Our grandson loved watching the trout swim beside the steps. The Walkers have a picture in the den of their large family. The cabin makes you feel so much at home that you leave with the sensation that you are now part of that wonderful family.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We can't say enough about the environment of this cottage and the feeling of history one feels while staying here.
