- The New Orleans JAZZ FEST in late april and early May is within walking distance to the house, as well as VOODOO FEST in City Park. Also, the longest Mardi Gras Parade is the Endymion Parade which starts just 1 block away on Orleans Ave and goes down Carrollton to Canal Ave. And for those who love to run Marrathons, City Park hosts some of the best in the US, and we have housed many runners for these events. Also, the Lakefront Marina has several competative Regattas during the year and we have also housed different contestants for these races. And since we are so close to The New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park we have hosted many visiting artists who have stayed at our home while putting up displays of their artwork at the Museum....moreless

Even more charming in person, this house is comfortable and spacious. Excellent restaurants are nearby and so is the grocery store if you want to fill up the kitchen. It is also very close to the bus or trolly for quick access to the French Quarter.

This apartment in mid-city is fabulous - exactly as pictured. We stayed here with our teenage son and had a great time. Spacious apartment, nice and quiet area for sleeping. Comfy beds ... great kitchen. Dorothy was a gracious host - leaving a welcome gift along with chocolates, snacks, coffee and creamers. There's a grocery store (with wine + beer) a short 7 minute walk away and City Park is 5 minutes away as is the St. Charles Streetcar (although we didn't use it). New Orleans is a great city for visiting ... easy street parking if you have a car. I'd suggest taking the streetcar if you visit the French Quarter as parking is at a PREMIUM there. Good restaurants nearby - Finelli's at Carollton is good for a quick meal. If you want creole, Neyows on Bienville (a 10 minute walk) is DELISH and really inexpensive. Great place ... recommended!

Amazing place to stay!
Amazing place to stay!
Our hosts Dorothy and Bill were wonderful, great ideas about where to go. You MUST eat at Toups down the street! The house, as well as accommodations are beautiful, add super comfortable too. The beds are better for a wonderful night sleep than what I have at home. There was a welcome basket; coffee and creamer waiting for us. There are so many nice touches that the owners provide, like cocoa; chocolates etc. This neighborhood is quite at night, with friendly people all around. If you are arriving with a car, street parking is easy enough. For a night/day out on Bourbon street, or the French Quarter-take a cab...call United, they are there within minutes, much less hassle than parking in those areas. When I travel back to NOLA, I will definitely stay here again.

Owner response: Thank you Michelle for staying with us. We try to provide the best accommodations for our guests while staying with us like the comfortable beds you mentioned, and the little extras to make your stay memorable. We look forward to seeing you again. Dorothy
The house was great. I live in the neighborhood and love the area. I was married at City Park (only a few blocks away) and had the bridal party stay at the house. Everyone loved the house, especially the balcony. Six people stayed there comfortably, with two to a room. They also appreciated that there was a well stocked and clean kitchen and a washer/dryer. All around great place.

My wife and I were touring the Southern States for our honeymoon and had the best four nights in New Orleans thanks to Dorothy and the gorgeous apartment. Beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and in a great location, this accomodation has it all. Now back in a cold, wet Scotland and already dreaming about our return to New Orleans and the perfect apartment.

Very nice place to stay
Very nice place to stay
We stayed for 6 nights in this lovely apartement with 4 adults. We had a great time and the location was great. You can hop on the tram in less then a 2 minute walk. The only thing that was a bit inconvenient was that you have to share a bathroom and toilet with 4 adults, but we could have known that before we booked. The owners were very nice and helpfull and we would recommend this appartement to everybody who would like to stay in a great appartement in New Orleans.

Our family traveled to New Orleans as a surprise birthday gift for my husband. I am so happy that we chose this beautiful vacation rental. The property description was right on and the apartment was clean and spacious. Dorothy was friendly and very accommodating providing information pamphlets on local attractions with maps. This property is blocks away from a beautiful park, restaurants like Fellini's and Parkway Bakery where we had delicious pizza and po'boys. The trolley is a couple blocks down, hop on that and make your way down to the French Quarter or over to the Garden District. We would definitely stay here again!!

Authentic New Orleans
Authentic New Orleans
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Dumaine. Having stayed in hotels in New Orleans, this is definitely much nicer. The location, the comfort of the home and the friendliness of the proprieter were all remarkable. To be able to stay in an historic place in such a history rich city just added to our overall experience. Definitely a place to return to.

We all had a lovely stay. The beds were very comforable and it is hard to beat the location and value. Plus we were able to access nextflix too- great way to unwind after a long day of eating and sightseeing. The owner was very friendly but didn't bug us. She gave us helpful info about signtseeing, where to eat and the amenities of the apartment. I already recommended the place to two friends. The property was clean and very well maintained.

Why the Owner Chose Mid-City:
This home has raised two generations of the same family since 1940. The home was originally occupied by 10 people, mother and father and 8 children, so the need for a large home. Later there was no need for all that room, thus the upstairs was made into an apartment, and at one point was rented out. Wanting room for family get- togethers and children and grand children visiting, we decided to use the upstairs for both vacationers and family.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
When you come to New Orleans you walk back in time to a leisurely, southern way of life. The people are hospitable and very friendly. You can sit on your front porch with those tall Greek columns and look out at the people walking by, but not without saying a friendly, 'hi, how ya'll doin?' Or sit on the upstairs front balcony late in the evening, listening to music and drinking a glass of wine and maybe having some gourmet cheese and crackes you just happened to pick up at the nearby market. Then if you want to take in the New Orleans JAZZ FEST in late April and early May, as well as VOODOO FEST in October, you just leave the house and walk to the Fairgrounds for JAZZ FEST not far away, or to City Park for VOODOO FEST, without having the burden of parking and paying for a spot and then still having to walk to the Fairgrounds! Or, you can take the Street Car that stops on the corner of Dumaine and Carrollton just a few steps away, and go to the French Quarter, (about 2-3 miles away), and Downtown, or transfer onto the St Charles Street Car line to visit the famous Loyola and Tulane Universities. There are numerous reataurants within walking distance, 2 just steps away from our home, and others along Carrollton and Bayou St. John. Our local Supermarket is about 2 blocks away and has gourmet as well as everyday and local cooking essentials. Also, in 2013 we will be having a new shopping complex with additional restaurants and businesses and a new Supermarket just a few blocks away. And for those who like the friendly atmosphere of our local taverns, there are 2 within walking distance, one being right around the corner from the house. All in all, the home is in a quiet, safe, professional neighborhood where you know your neighbors and where everyone looks out for one another and helps one another. There's no other place quite like this neighborhood and city, my New Orleans.
