Cloud 9- We'll be seeing you again!

Guest: Michele (SC)
Date of Stay: 04/08/12 Review Submitted: 04/18/12

We are a family of Dad, Mom, 10yo son, and 8yo daughter. Our favorite place to vacation prior to Cloud 9 was Disney---that's right, Disney! In fact, we have had annual passes there for about 4 years. We never go to Disney during Spring Break bc of the crowd level, so this year we opted for the mountains as opposed to the beach and I am so glad I found Cloud 9 on vrbo.com ! WE are only 2hrs and 15 minutes away from our newest found favorite place. I was not surprised when both my children cried when we had to leave after our five night stay. I don't know where to begin other than with Janet. Even though we didn't arrive until 9:15pm, she connected well with us and the kids in an unassuming way. I was nervous about the owner being "own property"; yet she was unobtrusive and at the same time available. My children learned so much in the time they spent with her, helping out just a bit here and there. Cows, bees, chickens, checking on the blueberry plants, the saw mill. My husband and son hiked a trail on the property and got quite a workout. The fresh eggs were a treat. We were less than 15 minutes from Asheville and were able to go to Biltmore and also to Chimney Rock, but other than that, we had "family" time. Janet has a 3" binder with personal recommendations/maps of local/Asheville attractions to go to; restaurants to eat at, etc. So, it isn't as if you arrive at the top of the mountain and don't know what to do next... So, the kids don't want to go to Disney this Summer; instead, they want to go back to Cloud 9!....If only I could find a way to trade our annual passes for Disney into an annual pass for Cloud 9. The accommodations were quite comfortable and well appointed. My husband still had his "man cave" in the basement and he and my son played air hockey down there and spent a little time on the gaming system. The scenery is breath taking. The deck extends the entire length of the back of the house; I valued the time I spent out there with my family just talking. There was enough relaxation to keep us happy, that's for sure. Oh, and laughing with my children in a hot tub under a starry clear sky was a "first" for me. Being able to bring our two small dogs completed the trip for us! Thank you, Janet and Jeff, for such a memorable vacation. The children haven't stopped talking about you or Cloud 9. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Many blessings, Michele P.

Owner response:Cloud 9...the Disney World of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I love it. We've been called the Walmart of Nature before but not Disney World. Kids on the farm, learning, happy, bonding with family...isn't that what a vacation should be? Thanks for the analogy!

Awesome girls trip

Cloud 9 was the perfect place for 3 college girlfriends to spend several days together. The cabin was very well stocked and so comfy and cozy. Location was great - only 15 minutes to Biltmore and/or downtown Asheville. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh eggs, honey, onsite hiking trails, fire pit, and hot tub. Janet has thought of everything. She has maps, brochures, detailed directions and instructions, etc. Would definitely go back again, and again, and again!

Owner response:Giggling 40 somethings? We have the perfect spot for you to escape your responsibilities just for a few precious days!

Our Mountain Getaway !

Guest: Gerald (Raleigh, North Carolina)
Date of Stay: 02/10/12 Review Submitted: 02/26/12

After another glorious 5 days at Cloud 9, two years in a row I might add. Our stay was fabulous from the gorgeous views to the totally relaxing home. It never disappoints, just becomes a second home to come back to. Janet is the perfect host and has taken so much pride in the farm and home. We also enjoyed the many hiking trails to visiting the cows and chickens. This visit was only made more perfect by watching the snowflakes while sitting in the hot tub. A very serene, peaceful, private and romantic getaway is what we all can use sometimes!

Owner response:So glad you noted the snowflakes from the hot tub. Yes, we keep the hot tub clean and well maintained throughout the seasons. We know that sitting out under the open sky in the Blue Ridge Mountains is what you come for! In fact, for you star lovers, especially Orion, you will have an unobstructed view of the eastern, southern and western sky. When the planets of Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Venus are in the night sky, you can easily spot them from Cloud 9. For you full moon howlers, come during a full moon week and witness that huge, orange ball glide over the mountains in the east and for a few seconds you can see the black silhouettes of trees outlined on it’s pitted, glowing face.

Family Holiday Gathering

Guest: Barb (Raleigh, NC)
Date of Stay: 12/21/11 Review Submitted: 12/30/11

Cloud 9 was the perfect getaway location for our family gathering at Christmas time. We came from 3 states so it was very convenient for all of us, as well as being just a short distance to Asheville and all it has to offer. The charming 1960's home was comfortable and roomy, with beautiful views of the distant mountains. The surrounding farm provides a peaceful retreat, and if we had had more time it would have been a delight to explore. Janet, the owner, had decorated the house for the holiday so it was especially cheerful. Janet shared her story of the farm, and her pride of place and the dedicated efforts on the farm are reflected everywhere. We enjoyed the eggs from her colorful chickens (the girls) and in turn shared some of our kitchen scraps with them. We spent time in Asheville, touring the Biltmore House by candlelight,(a real treat!), and eating at various terrific restaurants. Also, a trip to the Craft Center just north on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a given whenever we are in the area. Cloud 9 is not far from many attractions that we hope to see on a future trip. I highly recommend the aptly named Cloud 9 for its home-like peace and amenities.

Owner response:We are glad you enjoyed the million dollar view from Cloud 9 along with the winter passive solar feature.(This home was written up in the newspaper for being ahead of it's time in the 1970s with it's solar amenities...SW facing, large floor to ceiling windows to capture the heat and light for the winter weather.) Hey, thanks for being ecologically minded by saving your food scraps for the chickens and recycling. When you are on a farm...it's easy to be "green."

Four adults and two dogs just shared an unforgetable memory of our lifetime. If possible we definitely would have stayed longer. Janet is the hostess at Cloud Nine but she could just as easily be the hostess of Biltmore itself. We would recommend a stay to anyone and truly believe you will leave with a smile on your face. "Cardinals and Wildcats from the Bluegrass"

Owner response:Wise words from Unknown sources seems to fit your feelings on Cloud 9: "Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have." and "The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to make others so." Thanks for your kind words!

Honeymoon Vacation

Guest: Dan (Indianapolis IN)
Date of Stay: 11/07/11 Review Submitted: 11/15/11

My wife and I recently enjoyed our honeymoon at Cloud 9 on the way home from our destination wedding. What a great choice we made to stay here. From the moment we arrived to Janets property we saw how well kept and naturally decorated everything was. The cabin was secluded and comfortable. We have never been to a rental that was so ready to be lived in. Janet provided all the dishes and cookware we needed with many non-perishable items and papergoods. The house has every amenity you need, including huge flat screen tv with premium cable. The trails on the property were enjoyable, and we are still impressed with how well Janet maintains this relaxation haven. We will be back by ourselves and to bring the rest of the family. So dont think twice, Reserve this rental while you can. Thanks for everything Janet and it truelly was a pleasure meeting you. Dan and Sarah

Owner response:It's always such fun to meet happy, enthusiastic people such as you. I'm glad you felt Cloud 9 Relaxation Home, our 3 bedroom house, was a "cabin" because that means you thought it was cozy. We do have a Heavenly Hideaway Cabin # 118964 but since it was unavailable when you wanted it, Cloud 9 offers that feeling of being on top of the world, yet the quiet of hearing the falling leaves hit the ground (no highway noise)and having the outdoors at your toe tips. Note to readers: Dan and Sarah requested a honey tasting of the varietals NC offers from Beekeeper Janet. It's always a lot of fun when your tastebuds squeal in ecstasy with first-time tasting of the premier honey of the Appalachian Mountains...Sourwood and the buttery flavor of Tulip Poplar honey.

Perfect house for family of 5 with dogs.

Guest: Elizabeth (Atlanta)
Date of Stay: 09/30/11 Review Submitted: 10/05/11

This was a perfect place for us to stay with out 15, 13, and 9 year olds and 2 dogs. The 9 yo had a great time feeding chickens and cows, the 13 yo loved the big flat screen TV and WiFi, and the dogs had a blast swimmimg in the fishing pond and playing in the woods on the hike to Buzzard's Roost. The house was clean, well kept, and every time I needed something, it was there. It was also easy driving to Asheville, restaurants, and the movie theater. Thanks for a great, happy family weekend.

Owner response:The truth is, getting the kids outside, away from texting or gaming, is indeed a family miracle! Glad Cloud 9 could help.

Highly recommended and truly dog friendly

Guest: Connie (Merritt Island, Florida)
Date of Stay: 09/22/11 Review Submitted: 10/03/11

We just enjoyed our second stay at Cloud 9. As a couple with two small dogs, the home was more space than we needed, but the view of the mountains and proximity to the fire pit (for us) and the yard area and view of the chickens (for the dogs) were big pluses. Not only is the farm a beautiful and expansive place to just hang out, the people and activities on the farm are as much of a draw. We enjoyed our participation in beekeeping, feeding the chickens and the fish, and having our own private (and rather strenuous!) hiking trail right on the property. Everything is well-kept, and Janet and Jeff could not be friendlier. This will continue to be our "go to" place in North Carolina!

Owner response:Dog children are quite welcome! Thanks for being so interested in my honey bee apiary. Besides looking the view from Cloud 9 hill and picking blueberries in July, observing the honey bees in their partitioned part of the cow pasture is my favorite place to be. This is my favorite quote from Shakespeare's Henry V: "For so work the honey-bees, Creatures that by a rule in nature teach The act of order to a peopled kingdom."

Cloud 9

Date of Stay: 09/09/11 Review Submitted: 09/22/11

We just got home from an amazing stay at Cloud 9! It was 2 families each with one small child. The house is so clean, had plenty of room, and had everything you needed to fully use the kitchen. Janet is the kind of host that thinks of everything and makes such an effort to ensure the best visit possible. I have a crawling baby and she was able to go all over because it was clean and there was very little that she could get into. Janet also had a crib and highchair we put to use. The outside is even more wonderful! The deck is relaxing with a view that goes for miles! They have so many activities right on the property...feeding the chickens, collecting the eggs, feeding the cows, playing by the pond, feeding the fish, and miles of trails to hike. Janet includes a detailed book including maps about the area and local attractions. As I said, Janet has thought of everything! She loves her home and we are so thankful that we got a chance to enjoy it with her! We have found the perfect place for our vacations!

Owner response:It's always fun to see "discovery" on the face of a child for all things outdoors and watch the faces of the enthusiastic parents watching them! I'd be pleased to have you return.

My husband and I have been vacationing in the Asheville area for over 15 years. This is the first time that a rental property has had everything on our wish list! Cloud 9 is perfection. We have two dogs that always travel with us and we could not have been happier with Janet's stunning property. How lucky for us that she decided to take her childhood home and open it to the public giving us an opportunity to enjoy it too. Our only regret is that we had just a week at Cloud 9. Not only is Cloud 9 the VERY BEST place we have ever rented, Janet herself adds to the whole experience, from the freshest eggs to the treasures from her garden, she makes Cloud 9 a truely unforgetable place. We will be back, often. Dianne,Jeff, Lola and Maddie Johnson

Owner response:Oh, so you liked the edible flowers I brought from the garden to decorate your salads? I've never had guests bring their own vacuum cleaner before and wipe the dog nose prints off the sliding glass window before leaving! Thanks for leaving the home in good shape.

Outstanding choice when visiting Asheville, NC

Guest: Diana R. (Raleigh, NC)
Date of Stay: 08/30/11 Review Submitted: 09/05/11

We've just returned from Cloud 9 having enjoyed every aspect of our stay. This is a delightful home: it's well equipped, extremely comfortable, meticulously clean, quiet, very private, and ....it has great views! The outdoor decks and patios are perfect for dining while watching the sunrise or sunset. Just down the hill from the house, there are hiking trails, a small pond, picnic areas, a badminton grass court, horseshoes, and so much more. Children will enjoy feeding the fish with the food provided at the pond. They might also enjoy feeding the chickens and the cows on the property. There are large flat screen TVs and high speed Wi-Fi for those needing to stay in touch. Janet and Jeff are very accommodating but never intrusive. The fresh eggs and honey were much appreciated! We've rented several homes in or near Asheville, and Cloud 9 has been the best and the most convenient. It's a straight shot to I240, giving easy access to downtown Asheville in a very few minutes. We look forward to returning next time our travels take us to Asheville. Thank you, Janet and Jeff!

Owner response:You've said it all! And I think what makes Cloud 9 so comfortable is all the natural light that comes in from the bank of southwest facing sliding glass doors that all open out to a large deck. You could go all day without ever having to turn on a lamp or light. The outdoors beckons and isn't that what you come to the mountains for? On top of all you've expounded upon, your crowd were the perfect guests...leaving Cloud 9 tidy and neat!

Great place for a reunion with friends

Guest: Jerry (Long Island)
Date of Stay: 08/18/11 Review Submitted: 09/10/11

What a great place to get together with friends. Clean comfortable house, deck with a view, we got to watch an amazing light show from the lightning in a thunder storm over the top of the mountains miles and miles away. Ashville is a fun city to tour, walk the streets, good food and we spent a full day at Biltmore (well worth it). The owners were very attentive, we learned a lot about their farming activities and worked along with them on some (our choice). Definately recommend this to all.

Owner response:This was your second visit to Cloud 9 bringing a different set of friends each time. Yes, 3 couples do make a fun get together especially with late night card games on the deck under the LED lined canopy. And, you made our chores light and fun by pitching in. Ahhhh, fresh air, sunshine, animals and farm life!

My husband and I and our favorite friends had a wonderful vacation in Asheville. The house and property were beautiful. We also had great weather. The house is in a great location - secluded but yet near to Asheville. It was nice to have an entire house to ourselves. We could cook, watch TV, enjoy the hot tub, and our favorite - sitting on the deck and enjoying the views while sipping wine with our friends. The house is clean and spacious enough for a large group.

Great family vacation spot

Date of Stay: 07/31/11 Review Submitted: 09/06/11

Our family had a great time at Cloud 9. We came as a family of 4 with 2 dogs and 2 grandparents. Janet was so helpful and friendly throughout our visit. Every day the kids got to feed the chickens and collect eggs. We loved feeding the cows...even got to help move them to a new pasture! My kids are still asking about Miss Janet and when they can see her again. Lots of great day trip adventures in the area. We went to Santaland, river rafting, Lake Lure, Biltmore Estate and Asheville throughout the week. Definitely recommend this for a new and different family vacation.

Owner response:You sure did a lot...so that's why you booked 10 days instead of a week! I witnessed a lot of family bonding time with digging for worms in the compost, fishing in the pond, wrangling the cows down the road as we moved them to the next pasture from the safety of your slowly moving SUV, feeding the chickens your table scraps and the family raft trip that you talked about for days after. Thanks for being so friendly to us as well.

Cloud 9 is excellent for a family holiday

Guest: Celia (UK)
Date of Stay: 07/24/11 Review Submitted: 08/11/11

We travelled from the UK to meet up with our son and family who live in Missouri. We all had a great time, and made full use of what was on offer - hiking in the forest, lounging in the hot tub, barbecueing, sitting around the fire pit, feeding the chickens, getting lessons in beekeeping, picking blueberries, biking and studying the wildlife. The house is spacious and well equipped and most attractively furnished and decorated. We had a warm welcome from the owner, and would like to back some time, perhaps when it is not quite so hot! We found various nearby places to explore and liked Ashville, and white water rafting in particular.

Owner response:It was so encouraging to see you all coming back from a hike about the morning time I was feeding the chickens. Watching the morning mists rising over the pond and pastures along with the quiet is something many people don't get up for. I admired the energy of the kids, riding our bikes down the hill to the valley, waving at me in the garden, then riding up the mountain driveway just to explore. I know you come from the UK each year to a new part of the country, but I hope you will return to Cloud 9.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cloud 9. It was the perfect place to share with close friends. We had fun touring the Asheville area and then kicking back with a glass of wine and a BBQ dinner on Cloud 9's comfortable deck that offers an amazing view of the surrounding mountains...not to mention the simple joys of feeding the chickens, hiking the trails, lounging by the pond and picking blueberries...all included in our stay at Cloud 9! Thanks again, Janet! We definitely want to come back!

After a fun but busy (& a bit chaotic) wedding weekend, my husband and I spent our honeymoon at the Heavenly Hideaway cabin at Cloud 9 Farm. Cloud 9 is the perfect rural retreat. We were delighted to find freshly baked bread and farm-produced honey waiting for us when we arrived! The Heavenly Hideaway cabin is beautifully constructed and contains all the amenities for a relaxing holiday, including a well-equiped kitchen, gas fireplace and grill, comfortable bed, plush towels, and hot tub on the deck. I appreciated Janet's referral to a local massage therapist, who provided excellent in-home service. My husband and I both loved the quiet beauty of the farm and hiking in the forest dotted with mountain laurel in full bloom. If you're looking for a relaxing escape surrounded by the beauties of nature, proximity to Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains & Parkway, and a proprietor who intuits all the little details that please and refresh her guests, Cloud 9 Farm is an ideal place. We highly recommend it and hope to visit again soon!

Owner response:Ahh, yes, the bread...whole wheat with a dash of Cloud9 honeybee honey for aromatic flavor, baked just for you. And May is the perfect time to see the abundance of mountain laurel blooms on the property...more wedding flowers for you!

We had the great pleasure of sharing Cloud 9 with two other couples and what a grand time we had! The views are amazing as are the owners! The property was lovelier even than described and there was so much to do, whether you are a "go out everyday and see the sights" or a "relax and soak up the mountain ambiance"! We loved the chicks and gathering eggs, sunrises and sunsets on the glorious deck! And, yes, the rooster was in fine voice for our whole visit. The Biltmore is a must for those who enjoy history and Mother Nature at her best. We would whole-heartedly recommend this vacation get-away and can't wait to get back ourselves. Thank you Cloud 9!!!

Owner response:Three couples are a perfect fit for a vacation at Cloud 9 Relaxation Home and I see you took advantage of the Sunday-Thursday discounted prices. It was fun for some of you to pitch right in with farm chores...repainting and freshening up the tiki heads and carved hawk that day. Thanks for teaching us Mexican Train Dominoes that you so enjoyed one evening out on the deck. Hope to see you again!

Our time at the Relaxation home was too short! Janet is such a wonderful person and a great host. The house is nice, but the best part is all of the outdoor activities. Peaceful, quiet and views! Our kids had a wonderful time feeding the chickens, cows and just exploring. The first day Janet took us in her 4x4 vehicle for a tour of the property. All in all, it was a blast! We definitely be going back.

Owner response:Kids love it here on the farm. They were so enthralled with the chickens that they didn't miss a single feeding ...morning and late afternoon. And you told me, they don't get to run free much at home with all the traffic to watch out for. So much to explore and so little time. Please plan a longer stay than 2 days next time!

If you are searching for the perfect get away, search no more!

Date of Stay: 03/19/11 Review Submitted: 03/26/11

After extensive searching on VRBO for the perfect get away for our family of 6 we were thrilled with online listing and photos for Cloud 9. Honestly though, the pictures don't even scratch the surface! Cloud 9 is immaculate, perfect for families and dog friendly (Bailey our Golden). The house is equipped with everything you could imagine; clean bedding, fully stocked kitchen, huge clean BBQ, and super clean hot tub. We honestly could have stayed put all week. We visited Dupont Falls Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caves & downtown Asheville. The fresh eggs upon arrival were delicious & our 3 kids thoroughly enjoyed helping Janet everyday with their chores including feeding the chickens, cows & moving fire wood. Our trip included several hikes on property, bon fires, roasting marshmallows & making smores. Janet is warm and sooo accommodating. We also enjoyed the daily sunrise and sunsets with the beautiful 360 view of the mountains, a nice change from Florida. WE couldnt have asked for a more perfect setting for our vacation. Upon returning to Orlando our 3 year old was in tears as he stated I dont like our house I want to go back to our new house & feed the chickens. Also, please note that Cloud 9 is a GEM, please respect the house & the memories, we avoided wearing shoes in the house & treated it as our own, literally sweeping the floor on our way out! Janet thank you again, we had a fabulous trip & look forward to returning!

Owner response:When you said you wanted your kids to do "chores" it was fun to have them help with stacking the outdoor fire pit wood, feeding the chickens, scooping the cattle feed into the bin and "driving the tractor" or at least they pretended. Imagine, wanting to do more "chores" on your vacation! All three were well-mannered and a pleasure to have visit. And thanks for keeping the house mud-free on those rainy days by kicking off your shoes!

Fun in the Mountains

We had a wonderfully relaxing "mini-vacation" at this house. The views are great. I was totally entranced by the "fifties" look of the house. The house is so homey and warm and the hospitality is unbeatable. We ate in the "favorite" places that Janet recommended, drank our coffee by the fireplaces and soaked in the hot tub. Our little Westie, Harley, loved the farm. Even the rain couldn't dampen the fun. We took home a jar of honey, a handful of daffodils, and good memories. Thanks so much.

Owner response:Ah, yes, homemade, mosaic- tiled, kidney shaped coffee tables...family heirlooms that are kept here is what you noticed. They go good with the modern furniture after all! I'm glad you discovered how close we are to the Arden/Skyland area of Asheville so you could visit your son a hop, skip and a jump away. The nicest people come visiting with their dogs!

Quite, Serene, Peaceful! Janet's cabins are the most relaxing places to spend some time if you need to get away from the world and just "be". My husband and I have spent the last two years at Clound Nine Farm celebrating my birthday and have already reserved a spot for 2012. We quickly decided after our first visit that sight seeing was definitely out for the weekend, all we needed were our PJ's, each other and the cozy fireplace. I can't imagine a better way to spend the time! Janet goes out of her way to make sure that everything you could possibly need is at your fingertips. The hot tubs under the stars would have to be ranked at the top of that list. Thanks again for another wonderful weekend, can't wait til next January! The Rhews

Owner response:AND you had a great idea that you told me about...making the futon in the main room into a flat camp-out place, that with all the videos you brought and the fireplace, who would care about site-seeing on a cold weekend anyway. Just so glad Heavenly Hideaway met all your needs! See you next year! Janet

Wonderful Christmas and hospitality!

Guest: Jen (Clearwater, FL)
Date of Stay: 12/23/10 Review Submitted: 01/13/11

This was the first time we had shared Christmas away from home...and this will definitely be a place that we share many more! This was definitely a Christmas to remember. Janet was so accommodating with everything. On Christmas Eve day we walked the property and cut down our own little "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree. On Christmas morning we woke up and it was snowing! We had never experienced a white Christmas together, so this made the trip that much more special. It snowed all day long, and was so beautiful looking out thru all of the sliding glass doors along the back of the house. The views are definitely to die for. We even got in the hot tub while it was snowing and enjoyed a nice glass of wine. The rest of the week was spent doing alot of r&r, which was greatly needed. We did get out one day to go to visit The Biltmore, which was also beautifully decorated for the holidays. Had lunch at the Corner Kitchen, which was delicious. Janet was the ultimate host while we were there, making sure that we had everything we needed. The house was definitely like being away from home...very comfortable and inviting. The kitchen had everything a cook would want or need. We even had fun helping with feeding the chickens and picking our own eggs for breakfast...nothing like a farm fresh egg! Thank you again Janet for an amazing stay, and making our Christmas so memorable. We will definitely be back for another stay, but this time in the spring so that we can enjoy the flowers and trees in bloom!

Owner response:So you're the ones that brought the snow on Christmas day! LOL Yes, the 16 ft of sliding glass doors are very impressive. It's hard to tell the back from the front of the house because those sliding glass doors look out on the 300 sq ft deck and the long-range view of the mountains. When you walk in the front door, that's the view point you see through the living room. And your "Charlie Brown" tree was really two skimpy white pine tied together with my tree stand and your homemade ornaments and lights. It looked fabulous! You sure know how to plan for a great time!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful home with us. We loved the chickens, cows, trips to the garden (greens, squash, peppers and parsley), outside fires, bikes and most of all the beautiful views. The girls loved the paddle boat and all 3 kids loved your company. They just knew a new adventure would happen whenever we saw you. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing week. Note from Janet: Yes, the kids enjoyed picking up the Chinese Chestnuts...enough to have "chestnuts roasting on an open fire." literally...(the camp fire). They are sweet and good and some how make you feel closer to nature by eating them!

The Heavenly Hideaway cabin and the farm really are the perfect getaway. Although the cabin allows pets, it smells brand new and has everything you need. The hot tub is also sparkling clean and has a private woods view. You may be able to find a cabin that is as nice as the Heavenly Hideaway, but the best feature of this vacation rental is the farm and the farmer! You feel so welcome here, as if you’re visiting a relative or old friend, and you have 200 acres to explore. The farm has a little bit of everything –during my stay, I received a dozen eggs as soon as I arrived (one still warm from being laid), picked my own raspberries, watched as a young visitor fed the cows, and sat by the pond for a relaxing dinner and just to read. Janet is great about discussing and explaining the sustainable methods she uses in producing honey, raising Angus beef, and growing blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, in addition to a large vegetable garden. I could have participated in more, and plan to next time, but it was enough to sit back and soak in the quiet. The farm also has woodland trails - the hike to Buzzard’s Roost is the longest (about 1 to 2 hours, depending on how long you stay to take in the view); it is just long and strenuous enough to be invigorating. If you like to travel with your dog(s), the whole property is very dog-friendly, as is the Asheville area in general, even the Biltmore estate! I’m already looking forward to my next visit to the area and can’t imagine staying anywhere else!

Owner response:For an office gal, you sure are observant of nature! I like your play by play photos of a large mushroom poking through the ground, unfolding to its full mushroom-ness while you were here. It's easy to imagine the fairies dancing around these magical 'shrums here in the mists of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was fun to see your pooch come alive with each new smell encountered. I believe he regressed in years to a young spunky pup by the end of the week!

Cloud Nine Relaxation Home is Wonderful!

Guest: Janet (Chipley, Florida)
Date of Stay: 08/21/10 Review Submitted: 08/29/10

My husband, Ron, and I had a wonderful vacation at Cloud Nine. Janet was so gracious and anticipated our every need. She also allowed us to bring our dogs--they have never been boarded and think they are people! The dogs had so much fun hiking in the woods and smelling all the new smells. We learned a lot about Janet's stewardship of the land. It was fascinating and encouraged us to try to do the same at our small farm in Florida. Cloud Nine is just a short distance from the Biltmore Estate and Chimney Rock and so convenient to everything. We definitely will make a return visit.

Owner response:Note from Janet: It was fun to be "interviewed" by you for your local TV Outdoors With Ron show. I think you will work it in to your show as a place to go for sportsman to escape the heat of Florida, Alabama and southern Georgia. Thanks for the publicity in your locale. This same month of September, Cloud 9 is featured as a "Top Farm Stay" in the NC section of Southern Living!

What a wonderful place!

Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 02/03/11

Our family just loves the Cloud nine rentals! We always have a great time visiting and even went to a picnic at the pond with folks staying at the resort. We played horse shoes and sat by the fire and the kids and dogs ran around and played in the water. The hot tub is so nice to relax in and it is very comfortable in the wonderful house with the beautiful furnishings. There is a very nice fireplace and plenty of room to relax. We can't wait to come back and enjoy the fresh eggs again from the chickens on the farm. Next time I will be taking some of those juicy blueberries home with me. Lots to see and do in the Asheville area! I highly recommend their rentals for anyone who wants mountain splendor!

Owner response:Peterson Pond is a perfect place for you to play with your dog. Thanks for the photos you sent of your dog fetching and swimming...so cute. And, you were the first to use our new fire pit by the creek, made with a rocks in a ring from the farm with a standing stone for the fire to lick as it flames up. Come again!

Great for family reunions

Guest: Jerry (Kansas City, MO)
Date of Stay: 07/25/10 Review Submitted: 08/15/11

We travelled from Kansas City to meet up with my parents who flew in from the UK for a week at Cloud 9 and it was everything we could have hoped for. Being unfamiliar with the area we had a great time exploring around Asheville - there is a lot to do and it is always great to come back to accomodations as nice as this. The house itself is first class in terms of decor, comfort, cleanliness, amenities and layout - perfect for our party of 6 and certainly there was room for more. The propoerty itself is set in wonderful surroundings - large enough to be explored in their own right. There are some really nice walks and bike trails right from the front door. Janet was the perfect host who made our time there very special. My daughter very much enjoyed the bee keeping demonstration and we are still working our way through the wonderful honey made there. We certainly hope to return and would highly recommend a stay at cloud 9 to anyone considering a vacation or getaway to this area.

Owner response:Your daughter thought she'd be afraid of the honeybees but I gave her the smoker to hold (along with being fully protected in a child-size bee suit) and she gained so much confidence, she didn't want to leave the apiary! I always invite renters to experience inside the beehive with me as I have since 1995. Your teenage son had quite an insect collection of found moths, katydids, bugs by the end of the week. Your family loves the science experience of a vacation on the farm.

The Perfect Venue for Our Family Reunion

Guest: Allan and Kathy (Fairview)
Date of Stay: 07/02/10 Review Submitted: 07/12/10

We couldn't have picked a better place to hold our family get-together during the 4th of July week than at Cloud 9 and Heavenly Hideaway. With up to 30 relatives and friends visiting from San Francisco, Chicago, Georgia and Florida, we made the farm our hub for fun. Eleven spent their nights there with the rest staying in other family's homes but enjoying the days at the farm. Relatives spanning four generations found plenty of things to do on the farm-- biking, hiking, fishing, blueberry-picking, campfire story-telling, hot-tubbing and just lazing on the deck. But by far, the best time was spent at the pond where the kids of all ages caught and released bass; played soccer, football, badminton and horsehoes; swam; competed in family games; and took the youngest of the brood on paddle-boat rides. The highlight was the fireworks show at the pond put on by Jeff with great precision and an emphasis on safety. The house was big enough to accommodate our large group for dinners on the deck and patio. Whatever we needed-- extra chairs, a larger cooler, a small tent-- Janet and Jeff provided it. They also let the kids feed the chickens and cows. Jeff let the older boys drive the "quad" while Janet let them get up close and personal with her bees. As hosts, Janet and Jeff couldn't have been nicer if they had been family-- which they now are, at least as honorary members.

Owner response:You sure used every corner of the property with your "tribe." We had a blast being invited to be a part of your 4th of July family. The readers need to know that we used my extra bee suits to view the apiary. And I think your boys were a little disappointed that my honeybees were so docile and unperturbed (I raise them that way.) At least they each had a chance to hold up a frame of honey for the camera.

2nd visit of what we hope will be many more to come.

Guest: Tommy & Kathleen (Elkton, FL)
Date of Stay: 06/19/10 Review Submitted: 07/05/10

Having returned from our 2nd week's stay at HH, we are already planning for our next and, hopefully, longer visit. Although our FL temperatures followed us into the mts., the wonderful addition of the new glider on the porch allowed lovely early morning and evening relaxations; especially seeing the deer and hearing the different bird calls. As for restaurants; we once again enjoyed the Tacos and Beer, the Bistro at the Winery at the Biltmore and Cedric's Tavern at the same location. Different type foods; each excellent. And, we cannot recommend too highly a leisurely visit to the NC Arboretum and The Shops of Southern Highland Craft Guild.

Owner response: I'm glad you booked a week to do all the adventures you wanted to do! Come again!

Excellent Experience at Cloud 9 Farm

Date of Stay: 06/10/10 Review Submitted: 06/15/10

Many, many thanks for sharing your beautiful home, Cloud 9, with us. We had such a glorious weekend. The weather was cooperative most of the time. Our party on Friday evening was such a huge success--plenty of room to move around. We made good use of the dining room as well. Laurey's catering did a super job with the food. We enjoyed the blueberries on our cereal. Asheville was great as a luncheon place--went to Modesto's at the Arcade. Jim and Susan's wedding at the Homewood was so very elegant. And brunch on Sunday at Tupelo Honey Cafe out toward Hendersonville was wonderful. Thanks for being so generous with all your things. We loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone touring Asheville area.

Owner response:I was so glad to give you the home-away-from-home venue for your family party. I liked how you brought purple and white decorations and did a remarkably quick party face lift to the dining room turning into a gala buffet by just arriving in late afternoon, vroom, vroom, vroom...party place by 6 PM! Guests need to know that I have all the platters, serving utensils, punch bowl and cups, little salts and peppers, and trays you will need to do this. PS Laurey of Laurey's catering is a bee keeper friend1

Date of Stay: 03/25/10 Review Submitted: 04/01/10

The online listing and photos for Cloud 9 made it seem a little too good to be true. But when we arrived I saw that the listing did not do it justice. This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The house was clean and well-maintained and so many little touches that make it a perfect place to stay. We used it as a place to unwind and it was a great hub to visit so many surrounding places. Asheville, Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Lake Lure....just minutes away! Don't miss historic downtown Hendersonville and Asheville's Farmers Market! Will definitely plan a longer stay next time. We walked a couple of mornings at daybreak...peace, quiet, back to God's nature. Even heard several tom turkeys. Janet gave us a dozen fresh eggs upon arrival and it was a big hit with my husband! The temp was a little cool but did get to enjoy the hot tub at least once. THanks Janet for a great stay!

Owner response:You sure packed it in for those 3 days...you must come back when you can just relax. Gee, you got up earlier than me and I thought I was the farm girl! And, yes, it's the beginning of turkey mating season and they roost in the woods just below Cloud 9. It IS fun to hear them gobbling in the trees.

Wonderful Spring Getaway

Guest: LBG24 (Columbus, OH)
Date of Stay: 03/21/10 Review Submitted: 03/30/10

We visited during our daughter's college spring break. From snow to 60 degree sunshine, the hot tub was a hit, as well as the chickens and fishing pond. With 2 adult daughters, the bedrooms insured everyone had their own space, and the living areas were welcoming and bright. Photo's in listing were very accurate to the house. I liked not having TV's in every bedroom; quieter and more social! This was one of the most well equipped houses we have ever rented from VRBO. We had everything we needed, and Janet's shopping service was a plus to have food waiting for us when we arrived. Relaxing, quiet and yet close enough to Asheville for dinner. Janet provided answers as we needed. Would definitely rent again if in the area.

Owner response:Note from Janet: I noticed that you really took time to enjoy family, just kicking back and enjoying the beautiful sunshine on the deck with the daffodils nodding in approval. Well equipped? Yes, I keep the kitchen items that I would want to use...cinnamon, hot peppers, salt grinders, a cup of that proverbial flour/sugar and plenty of plastic containers to store left overs in if you cook here. Thanks for noticing!

My family of 5 from South Carolina, New Mexico, and Kentucky stayed at Cloud 9 for a week during Christmas 2009. We found the beautiful farm with the use of our GPS devices. Although the area was freshly blanketed with snow, the drive to the house had been cleared. We crossed a stone bridge covering the mountain stream as we passed the farm's black Angus cows and blueberry bushes on our drive to the house. We were delighted when we saw the house perched on top of the ridge. The back deck spans the length of the house, affording the living room, den, and every bedroom a mountain sunset view. The house was well decorated for Christmas, and we piled our presents under the pretty living room tree. The kitchen was well equipt for our big Christmas dinner and for the many breakfasts that we prepared during our stay. One morning, we had fresh eggs, gathered by Janet from her own cute, fat, chickens. The decor of the house is comfortable, but has a beautiful, creative touch. The master bed is hand carved, tables are cleverly designed, and there were too many great ideas for any designer to take in. We had fun one night just reading the books that are in the bookcase. The hot tub was hot and just outside the bedroom doors. It was such fun sitting in the hot tub with snow all around. Of course, after the hot tub, we enjoyed the big screen plazma TV and the gas fireplaces. All of us had a good night's sleep because of the wonderful beds -great mattresses, quality sheets, and plenty of covers. Janet provided us with everything we needed to enjoy the house and the great area surrounding it. While we were there, we went to the candlelight tour and dinner at the Biltmore Mansion, ate a delicious German dinner nearby, viewed the Gingerbread House competition, and watched the sunset at the romantic Grove Park Inn. Janet's attention to detail and her concern for our well-being insures that the Cloud 9 Farm lives up to its name. We will always remember our white christmas in the mountains, and we intend to stay there again someday.

Owner response:I wish I had taken a photo of how all your presents looked so great under the Christmas tree. It looked like home to me! Glad you enjoyed your stay and saw you bundled up, out walking off those meals. Isn't it fun to get family together?

We stayed at the couples cabin 'Heavenly Hideaway' on Cloud 9 Farm over a snowy weekend. Despite the extreme (yet gorgeous) weather conditions, we had a great time. Janet, the owner, went above & beyond to ensure we had everything we needed during the snowstorm & really took care of us. The property is lovely & the cabin was PERFECT! A wonderful "hideaway" that we expect to return to again! Thanks for everything!

What a wonderful cabin! Perfectly nestled in the hilly forest and completely private. The cabin was much nicer than we could have imagined, with many luxurious touches. Everything was there and thought of... We like to call the heavenly hideaway a morph of a cabin and a room at the Waldorf! We will be back soon for sure, and wouldn't stay anywhere else in Asheville.

Owner response:A lot of research and personal visits to other cabins are the result of Heavenly Hideaway Cabin on Cloud 9 Farm having the amenities that you enjoyed. Since you were here, we now have a hammock on the deck, HD television channels and a Blue Ray DVD player. You can cocoon all you want to together! Or study. We've had many people use the solitude to study for Boards, GREs or just plain catch up on reading!

Perfect spot for our family. We were able to get away and relax as much as possible with a 10 month old and a two year old. The house has everything you need and more and Janet was so kind to involve us in the daily activities around the farm. Men will love the great tv and sound system and the children will love all the outdoor activities. The property is cared for and you can tell Janet takes great pride in all that she does. We can't wait to spend another week or weekend at Cloud Nine.

Owner response:Oh,yes, sweet...a new HDTV. I hope the baby could sleep with the surround sound turned up like your husband likes it. LOL It was fun seeing your 2 year old's reaction to the chickens and cows. I think she liked the baby chicks the best...and roasting marshmallows by the fire. Hope to see you again soon.

Cloud Nine was the perfect retreat for family traveling from the Raleigh area to attend the June 13 graduation of our first grandchild. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery, hiking trails, farm life as well as comfortable and spacious accommodations. The deck was ideal for a sumptuous lunch for all 20 people and homemade ice cream later in the afternoon. Wish we could have luxuriated for many days.

We had a wonderful week at Cloud 9. I was so happy there, I did not want to leave. Janet and Jeff made us feel welcome at the farm. Janet gave us fresh eggs, vegetables, blueberries, and blueberry pie. Loved sitting in the hot tub watching the stars, feeding the chickens, feeding the fish at the pond, and letting my dog, Layla, run around on the property. The house was equipped with everything needed. We hiked up to Buzzard's Roost on the property, and went to Dupont State Park and Montreat for long hikes as well. We also checked out the galleries in Asheville, Biltmore, and Black Mountain. Couldn't have had a better vacation. Rhonda

The sun rises, the rooster crows and thus begins another amazing day at cloud 9 and the beautiful Asheville, NC area. Cloud 9 was close enough for everything we wanted to visit: Biltmore Estate, NOC white water rafting, LaZoom Asheville bus tour, Chimney Rock, and the triathalon...so yet out in the country. Tnaks so much for letting us pick blueberries, feed cows, pick eggs, feed chickens, and enjoy a great hot dog and marshmellow roast on the bonfire. PS Thanks for letting us ride bikes. Matthew, age 11 and Andrew, age 9 NOTE FROM JANET: Your sure know how to pack a lot of activities in a 4 day stay. And you came in the top half of the 200+people triathalon. Congratulations!

It is surely Cloud 9 all and more than one might expect. My grandson's high school graduation was enhance with the natural beauty highlighted here. Thanks for letting us have the graduation party here with plenty of room for family and friends to spread out. I like the swings. Luke, 6 years old My favorite thing was the air-hockey table. Also, I didn't get in the hot-tub. I loved looking outside at the great view. Lindsey, age 9 NOTE FROM JANET; That's what Cloud 9 is best at, giving you and your families a place to join together. Looks like you saved a lot of money, too, by "catering" it yourselves. Cloud 9 kitchen is easy to use to cook for large groups.

We had such a wonderful time here with our friends who are moving away...one last trip together before they go...4 adults and 6 kids. Feeding the cows, chickens and gathering eggs are all memories we will treasure. The photo op on top of the bales of hay might just be our Christmas card! Thanks for making it all easy and comfortable. NOTE FROM JANET; You are two amazing families, so prepared for travel with kids, so quick to make it educational for them with the outdoor nature walks, and yet I couldn't even tell 10 of you had been here, you left Cloud 9 so neat. Thanks1
