Security deposit issues
Security deposit issues
Owners seemed to believe that as renters we made a poor judgement in not contacting them when we noticed that the Maine bathroom had a slow drain in the shower. As renters we did not think it was an issue and did not have a problem we dealt with the slow drain. By the third day the property manager knocked on the unit door and said water was leaking into a lower unit. He also said kitchen sink was leaking. We were told not to use the shower. We contacted owners at that time who called a plumber and issue was resolved the next day. We could not use that shower ,Owners accused us of using it before plumber came . We did not we utilized the other one. Plumber indicated to us drain was very clogged and build up could not have been from us. Plumber also indicated to use that the pipe needed to be replaced and he would tell owners. At this point we went back to the vacation and thought all was ok. Unfortunately we returned home and after a month of waiting for the security deposit we contacted the owners. We were told by owners that we would not be getting the security deposit back. They accused us of letting the shower overflow. They accused us of using bad judgement in not calling them about the slow drain. They made us pay for the leak into the other unit.We were very upset because we took very good care of the unit and felt we deserved the deposit back. So my rental cost me extra money. So if you are willing to Pay the rent plus the deposit no big deal If you want your security deposit back good luck. Be very careful and contact owners for everything!Do not be like me and assume its not a big deal.money was not the issue here. As a renter I did nothing wrong and had to pay extra money ,not my idea of good owners.not my idea of a good rental.never had this happen before. As a renter I think they should have worried more about how we felt about Having to not use that shower for a day. As owners they made us feel it was are fault and the plumbing issue somehow was something we should pay for. We were victims of bad timing. They may have unclogged the drain but it is just a matter of time before it happens again. We did not overflow anything ,therefore , leak is still there. Good luck if you rent this because it may happen and you will pay. I wrote this review because I rent all my rentals by looking at reviews. I hope I can help someone make a good decision .

Owner response: We would like to clarify a few statements that are incorrect in tenants/renters' statement. The MAIN bath that is in question is a STALL SHOWER with approximately a 4" lip and NOT a tub/shower unit. First, it was not the 3rd day; it was 4th day that we were contacted of the issue. The issue was resolved on the 5th day of a 7 night stay. With the tenant/renter checking in on Sat of the week before and never call until Wed, obviously, the shower was used. Yes, the plumber confirmed that the drain was clogged but at no time informed us of a "pipe" needing replacement. We never accused them of causing the "clogging" of the drain nor of bad judgement. We did indicate that if the drain was sluggish, we should have been notified sooner than the 4th day of the stay. Anyone who is familar with a condo setup, ie someone above and someone below, would understand that in order for a unit below to have leakage, it is not a one time "spill on the floor." According to the building manager, "tenants kept showering and shower was overflowing." We finally rec'd the bill for the plumber and we asked the tenant/renter split the bill o/o their security deposit. We promised that we would send the remaining security deposit and we have. At no time, did we say that we would charge them for the damage in the unit below. We have no idea how much that charge will be due to the fact that the ceiling has to dry out. In fact, we stated that we would incur that charge. A couple of other tidbits that the tenant/renter neglected to state. Our family, a family of 6, was in our home the week before they arrived w/ NO problems whatsoever. Even though our check in time is late in the afternoon, we allowed the tenant/renter to arrive early. Also, we as well as the husband were not present when this whole situation occurred. Lastly, we're not sure of anyone else but when we would rent from a Landlord and there is something wrong, we would always call the Landlord and let them be aware of the situation. It's just common sense.
i came here with my brother my mom and 2 people from church i loved it it was really nice i wouldnt say for having kids because its dangerous with the balconies being up so high i stayed on the 14th floor but all in all i liked it and so did the people i was with i was young and still remember this hotel

Great Unit- We had a wonderful stay!
Great Unit- We had a wonderful stay!
I've been coming to English Towers for over 30 years. It is the best building in OC! Most units we've stayed in over the years have had gone from dated decor to rather well done yet worn furnishing. This unit was just perfect. Kind of a beachy New England feel. Every thing was newly painted and hardware recently replaced with brush nickel. The tile floor and carpet could not have been a year old. First Class unit all the way. The Master Bedroom, Family room and Dining room were great as well. The owners were very pleasant and responsive.
