Hoisted over a gentle cliff overlooking the deep waters of the Samana Bay, the peace and sights that can be found in la Casa del Mar are unique and impossible to find in any other house or hotel in the peninsula.
During the whale watching season, from early January to late March, female whales and its calves gently frolic just off the shore in front of the house. In the distance, male whales jump over the sea surface thrusting their heads straight up in the air in order to show off their strength and attract females.
La Casa del Mar overlooks as well the peninsula valleys. From the rear porch or from the mango garden startling sunsets with mellow shades of purples, reds and golds contrast with the palm trees and hill contours to make scenes that are peaceful, serene and beautiful.
By night, quietly laying by the pool or in the sea garden, the transparent skies unveil millions of blue stars making the house a magic place for stargazing.
Keywords: La Casa del Mar is a two story, 3,230 square feet villa located in a 39,800 square feet plot of land. The house has two porches (overlooking the sea and the valley) that double as independent dining rooms, infinity pool, jacuzzi, two gardens, barbecue, open air dining room by the pool and internet connection

First let me say if you don't like bumpy muddy roads, don't like lizards or insects or chickens or cows, don't speak some Spanish, or if you are afraid of random power outages, this is NOT the place for you. But if you love gorgeous vistas, wide open spaces, ocean breezes, cool pools, modern simplicity, and no TV, this is HEAVEN. The house is open to the air and sitting anywhere in the house or on the property is lovely. You are close enough to town to go shopping for groceries and catch a boat to the lovely nearby beaches. Yocasty is incredibly helpful and efficient - exactly the kind of friend you need in a new environment to get the best out of the week. We especially loved the kitten that "came" with the house. We'll be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Jocelyn, Most grateful for your kind words! It took us a good year to find the place where the house now stands. We wanted just what you described, a place having one leg in heaven and another on earth! We were too extremely careful in choosing who our agent in Las Galeras would be. The house was a family dream and we wanted a kind, understanding, sincere and hard working person to act in our name. Best regards, V

I stayed in Casa del Mar for a week in august and would like to express my great satisfaction of the house, localization and service. The house is wonderful, in a very quiet location, with some amazing views and lawns. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the nearest town and it feels very pleasant. The house is perfectly cleaned every day by a very nice lady who was always available and eager to help. Once she left, we had a security guard staying at the gate of the house and we felt very safe thanks to him. We had a few issues with the water tanks that were resolved immediately. I felt that Yocasty, who rents the house, was very efficient, attentive and fast to respond to any queries, questions or issues that may arise. We were touched by her kindness and she certainly made our vacation very relaxing and worry free. I recommend this house to everybody who is in need of a very peaceful vacation, a total retreat from the world, you will be delighted.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear David, We are very grateful for your kind and encouraging words and for taking the time to write a review of our home. We sincerely hope we will have the opportunity to host you at la Casa Del Mar one again. Kind regards

Every part of my stay at Casa del Mar was stupendous. The staff, the view and the house were beyond what we had dreamed. I grew up and go to the DR often and thought I knew all the right places to stay until my arrival at Casa. Yocasty and her staff greeted us with refreshments and a handy list of local contact numbers, none of which I needed as they took care of everything. The house is well laid out, beds and furniture are comfy and amenities are up to date, including wifi which we also didnt need. I love this house so much I wanted to keep it to myself and not write this review. ;) Great for a romantic week or a family vacay, Casa is perfect. So much so we booked for the holidays!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Dear friend, We are delighted to learn hat your stay at our home was so pleasurable. The house staff, our agent in Las Galeras and ourselves do our utmost to provide our guests with a nice and comfortable stay. We sincerel wish to see you again soon! Warm regards

Yocasty: 11 Stars. Owners: not even half a star. Unfortunately the house was infested with cockroaches. The day I arrived I had to kill a huge spider on my kids room. Later the same day a second big spider was found in the bathroom while my wife was bathing my younger son. After that I decided to close that room because I couldn’t find the second spider. I thought it was uncomfortable but understandable given the location. The house is “open” to the outside on the living room area and close to several trees. The problem began at night when the cook was preparing the meal and I had to kill a huge cockroach. I thought it came from outside because it was really big. Unfortunately another one showed up 20 minutes later. When I was ready to go to sleep I went to the kitchen for a glass of water and three big black roaches were on the kitchen counter and one close to my kid's room. After that I couldn’t sleep all night ensuring the bugs will not get into my kid's bed. Yocasty was extremely helpful and call an exterminator the next day. We tried to stay one more night but I had to kill 7 more roaches the following night. There is a serious problem in the kitchen since all are coming from below the counters. Some of them even showed up on the beds the following morning which was disgusting. The owners offered us to refund only part of the cost of the rent after spending only two days of hell and no sleep. Beware of the owners!!! I wish they could wake up with a roach in their bed like I had to do while I was at their house to understand how I feel. Yocasty Artiles was able to relocate us at a local hotel with no view but at least friendly staff. If it wasn’t for Yocasty our vacation would be completely ruined. Las Galeras is amazing and you could try to rent a house from Yocasty BUT STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!Owner response: Dear Juan Pablo, Many thanks for taking the time to review our property. Rest assured that we will take your comments on board for contantly improving the service we provide to our friends and customers.

Las Galeras is not like Las Terrenas, on the other side of the Samana Peninsula, or other areas like Punta Cana with it's tourist filtration. It is tranquil and beautiful, unaffected by mainstream tourism, and I hope it stays that way. La Casa del Mar is everything Las Galeras is: tranquil and untouched, yet offers a fair degree of elegance and sophistication. The front view is remarkable: even though you are at some distance from the sea, the incredible vista seems to place you at waters edge. (There are no accessible beaches in front of the house, rather cliffs) During one of my six times here, in February, with a pair of high end binoculars, we could see numerous whales- at least 60 I think during our stay. They are quite far away and cannot serve as a replacemnet for going to see the whales by boat, as we did, yet nevertheless spectacular. The charcteristic that MAKES this house for me is the country setting. Not only are you provided a great view of the sea, but also lush, hilly countryside from the other direction. Your only neighbors are cows and chickens, and a few humble Dominican homes nearby, but not overlly close. It is really an ideal setting. The short, rough drive in seems a warning for those who desire luxury. Sure, this is an elegant house in most respects, yet the natural setting (you are on your own) and here and there bugs due to open design concept make it in my mind a house for nature lovers, or a very, very good house to get away from all for the newly matched or those just wanting to stay put and "chill." If you remain in the house the whole stay you will miss the spectacular beaches and pastoral scenery,(Best to have a 4 whell drive here; in fact, getting to the house really requires one.) My fave is Playa Fronton, which is best accessed by boat from Las Galeras. Also, be sure to eat at El Cabito. Getting there is a TREK, however the meal is worth it. Be prepared to wait at least an hour for your food. If you are of the adventurous type, place your order then jump the 40 or so foot cliff, but be warned: if you can't climb the rope ladder, be prepared to tread water for 30 minutes or more until a boat comes to take you back to Las Galeras!!!! Yocasty, the house manager, completes the positive experience for the house. She is friendly and laid back, sincere and helpful. Rosa and I have become friends with her. For meals in, make sure to talk to her- she can help with your seafood requests. A cook is available for xtra charge,Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Tom, Many thanks for your kind, thorough and helpful review. My wife and I deeply appreciate your decision to stay at our home in Las Galeras and are very grateful for your view. I believe that you clearly capture in your review what our house is and offers, and what it doesn't. We did put a lot of time and effort in building our dream house and it is now, that we don't live there, our pleasure that other people enjoy La Casa Del Mar.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hola Cybthia y Marcos.

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I, together with two couples with kids, stayed in La Casa from 16 to 28 December. What to say? Well, it was truly amazing! My family and I have been spending our holidays in this part of the Dominican Republic for 7 years now. And we have never, ever stayed in a place that comes anywhere close to La Casa in terms of beauty, peace, tranquillity and relaxation. To start with, all web pics are accurate and exactly reflect the house, its views and surroundings. We have stayed in places that either used heavily photoshoped pics or are plain fakes. In this case what you see is what you get. The views are magnificent, the house furniture and finishing elegant and graceful (one of the sofas had a couple of stains left by a previous rental, but will be replaced by mid January we were told), the bed mattresses truly comfortable (my husband suffers from back aches), the kitchen is well equipped and the fact that there are three distinct dinning areas with three different views is simply unique! And the views from the infinite pool and the Jacuzzi are picture perfect. The real state agent, Yocasty, was extremely diligent and helpful, as the house staff was at all times (the fact that the price includes maid services is a great plus when you travel with kids!). I have already recommended La Casa to our closest friends and relatives (our Christmas facebook pics in La Casa have been a cause of massive envy!!). For us, the price of the house rental compared against what you get is more than fair.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: We are a family of 4, plus a stubborn dog, that travel the world since the 90´s. We lived over 5 years in the D. Republic and loved so much the place and its people that we put our savings in building the house!
Why the Owner Chose Samana:
Our daughters, water girls!, were born in the island and since they were few days old we used to spend wonderful weekends in the area. We wanted a place of our own that had uninterrupted sea views and from where you can see the whales.. and we found it and built the house of our dreams!!
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
During the whale watching season, from early January to late March, female whales and its calves gently frolic just off the shore in front of the house. In the distance, male whales jump over the sea surface thrusting their heads straight up in the air in order to show off their strength and attract females.
