Maui on a Budget - Large Plantation Home by Beach $99 Apr/May Special
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Why spend an extra $50 - $200 per night on where you sleep? Why not spend that extra money whale watching, snorkeling, fishing, dining, or experiencing Maui's endless activities?
Take advantage of the most affordable vacation rental in West Maui. This cute, spacious, and very clean 2 bedroom 1 bathroom home is located in beautiful Napili on the oceanside of the Lower Rd. The two bedrooms include a master bedroom with a newly purchased (April 2013) Posturepedic Queen bed, and a second room with a trundle bed (beds can be joined to make a king bed or split to make 2 twins). Newly renovated, this quiet home offers a fully furnished kitchen, and very spacious living and dining room areas, everything you need to be comfortable without the outrageous cost.
This plantation home sits on a large 10,000 square foot property with plumeria, guava, mango, and banana trees. A five minute walk takes you to a beautiful, quiet beach where sunsets are magnificent. A 10 minute walk takes you to the Napili Plaza where all the ameniites (post office, ATM, grocery store, restaurants, beauty salon, and snorkel set rentals) are available. A gas BBQ and a washer/drier are also at your disposal. Depending on what is fruiting in the garden or on the trees, fresh fruits and veggies may also be available.
The property owner, a recent doctoral graduate in marine biology, lives in a studio connected to the main house. If he is not off-island on a research cruise in some remote part of the world, he would be happy to advise you on where to experience the best of Maui's underwater beauty. A very people friendly cat named Ali'i (Mr. Lee) also lives on the property and always seeks human affection. So if you dislike cats, this rental is not for you. Otherwise, this can be your home away from home while you explore the beauty of Maui.

We have been to Maui several times and have never before rented a place like this as we usually go with the "packaged deal" We are so glad we decided to do things a little different this time because it was truly the best vacation we have ever had on Maui. The house was perfect for our needs, the new bed was very comfortable, the kitchen very well equipped. The house was very clean and well taken care of as well as the yard and surrounding areas. We enjoyed the owner Mark just as much as the house, he is a very nice guy and we really enjoyed talking with him and even enjoying a great Mai-Tai together. I really have no complaints to report!! We will see you next April Mark..Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: You guys rock! Thanks for the great review and the great mai tai. Look forward to seeing you guys again next year, and maybe this time you will get to see the manta rays.

House was clean and fairly big with a nice living room and kitchen. Second bedroom has two single beds. Home is close to everything on west Maui. Nice beach with lots of turtles within a couple of minutes walk. Owner very helpful! Even helped arrange to deliver golf clubs to airport the day we left.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was my pleasure and thanks for you nice words. Maybe I will see you back again next year. Aloha

Just what we needed. Comfortable and easy. There was lots of room, and had all the amenities. The kids had a great time (5 and 4) playing in the yard with the cat, picking fruit from the trees, making flower leis. The hammock in the back yard was a bonus. Short walk to a couple of beaches and shopping. Quick drive to everything else. Special thanks to the owner who helped cut open coconuts for us and take us peanut picking. Good luck with the Manta Ray research!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for the kind words on our rental. A great pleasure having your family stay with us. We look forward to your return in years to come or perhaps we will see you sometime in Victoria. Mark

I would highly recommend this home away from home, especially to other families with young kids. Having a house with a great yard meant that the kids always had something to do - spotting geckos and lizards, birds, exotic plants or playing with the resident cat Mr. Li. The house was spotlessly clean and looked exactly as pictured. The location was awesome, with groceries and good beaches for kids both very close by. Also a good base for exploring other busier parts of the island, and a peaceful place to come back to at the end of the day. The owner was very knowledgeable about all aspects of Maui and extremely helpful when asked.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. I saw some future biologists playing in the yard chasing geckos. Good luck with your work and we look forward to your return to Maui. Mark

LOCATION: Excellent, small beach within walking distance approx 1/3 mi from front door CLEANLINESS: Excellent, spotless AMENITIES: Basic, no beach chairs, toys. Great for families. The queen mattress and twin mattresses felt well used. We appreciated the foam topper on master bed but not an adequate solution.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Well I broke down and got a brand new Sealy Posturepedic Langley Plush Queen Mattress and box spring for the master bedroom. There are beach chairs, maybe you didn't see them. Thank you so much for choosing my home and for the kind words on the rental. I hope to see both of you again next year.

"Large Plantation Home" is a very misleading description of this rental. We were disappointed with it in almost every possible way. The house is located on a small, poorly landscaped lot close to the road. The inside is uninspiring and had some deep, unresolved maintenance issues--seemed like mildew to us--and insect issues. The owner is a nice guy, but this is not a nice rental. We stayed one night and then asked for the rest of our money back.Owner response: We are terribly sorry that one of you had such bad allergies on your first night, definitely not a good way to start your vacation. Some people are much more sensitive to the VOG (volcanic fog from the Big Island) than others and it was particularly bad the day you arrived, perhaps that was the issue. Why your experience was so much different than all my other guests is not clear but nonetheless, we will strive to do better, and we do wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

The house was perfect for our family! It was spacious and clean. The kitchen was stocked with cooking utensils, so a trip to Costco was all that was needed. Our four children ages 10-13 had a great time snorkeling with the sea turtles nearby. Mark graciously provided information about the island and beaches whenever we had a question. Thank you very much, Mark! We will remember this vacation for years!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was my pleasure and thank you for choosing to stay at my place and I hope to see you guys again next year. Aloha, Mark

Although this would be the perfect fit for a family with kids, it was ideal for two couples seeking a week away from the hustle and bustle of our lives in California. We were very active during our stay, but always enjoyed coming back to the private, spacious, and clean home. Mark was very kind and even promptly responded to our very early phone call when we locked ourselves out of the house before braving the Road to Hana. There are great beaches, restaurants, snorkeling, and other activities near by! We will return not only to Maui, but to this very house. Maybe next time we'll bring the kiddos. Just maybe!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We very much look forward to your return. Take care and it was a pleasure meeting all of you. Mark

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was incredibly clean and spacious, and I would highly recommend it. We really appreciated Mark's helpfulness, especially when our little one got sick on the last day, and we weren't sure if we would be able to return home as planned.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: A pleasure having your family stay with us and glad to help anyway I can. Take care and maybe we will see you again next year. Aloha, Mark

Aloha! We stayed at Mark's plave for 10 days and enjoyed every one of them. The house was very clean and provides anything you need, plus a lot of beach stuff that you can use and very nice tasting guavas in the garden. The house is located in an area close to a lot of very nice beaches where you can surf, boogie board, snorkel or just swim. Napili Market is only a few minutes away where you basically find anything you need. Thank you very much.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: Welcome to my beautiful home. I'm originally from Montreal, Canada, but found my paradise here on Maui where I have lived for the past 15 years. I am a marine biologist having spent the better part of my last 20 years studying whales and dolphins all over the world. More recently I obtained my doctoral degree learning about Maui's manta rays. Now I spend most of my time devoted to my non-profit, The Hawaii Association for Marine Education and Research, Inc., pursuing its mission to preserve Hawaii precious marine resources through sound research and education. I look forward to telling you all about the beauty of the underwater world available to you just offshore of my beautiful home.
Why the Owner Chose Napili:
I spent the past 15 years studying the endangered humpback whale here in Maui, the best place in the world to study them on their breeding ground. Where else would anyone want to buy a home?
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The home is located on 10,000 square feet with beautiful plumeria, guava, mango, and banana trees. It is 15 minutes north of Lahaina, close enough to gain access to all their activities and restaurants while enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the upper west side. The sunsets are spectacular from the beach only a 5 min walk from the house. Bring a beach chair, a beverage, and soak in the beauty. A ten minute walk up the hill is Napili market where the post office, grocery store, ATM, and restaurants are available for your convenience. Or stop in at Boss Frog's for some affordable snorkel gear and enjoy the many turtles, fish, and beautiful corals. Listen closely and you just might hear humpback whales singing.
