Home away from Home! Just got back from a great trip to the Gulf Shores. This was our first trip down there and def won't be our last. We traveled with a group of 12+ people. 9 adults, 3 kids. The Blue Bayou home was a great fit for our needs and Sue and Bill were excellent to work with! The home is large and has so much room for everyone. One of the things I liked best about the rooms traveling with little ones - was that there are multiple beds in the rooms. This allowed us to have the kids near us which was very helpful. The thing I liked least about traveling with little ones with this home is the fact that the backyard is very open to the canal and the pool - which is amazing, but limited the kids to life vests at all times :) The house has so many great accommodations from ping pong, to kayaks, bikes and everything you need to feel at home. The location is just a short distance from the main strip, so we still felt like we were in the mix of everything, but also enjoyed our privacy. Great Find Overall!Did you find this review helpful? From the time we walked in the door until the minute we checked out, we and our family/friends had the most enjoyable time possible. The description of the house was spot on and all of the amenities were just as described. There was more than plenty of space for our group of 15 people. The bayou in the back was so much fun; from kayaking to the plentiful amount of fish to catch (pinfish, catfish and even eel). Two big grills and a huge kitchen with a super long dining table made all the difference. One thing that blew us away was the amount of cabinet space! Our wedding reception of over 50 guests went great and we received many compliments on the Blue Bayou! I can't think of one reason for anyone to not stay at Blue Bayou.... but please remember to keep the noise/music down since there is no longer a noise curfew... if anyone can hear your music 40 feet off the Blue Bayou property lines, then the Orange Beach Police will be called. Don't let this keep you from visiting though because it was worth it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the great review of Blue Bayou! We are so pleased that your visit to Orange Beach was all you had hoped for and that your wedding reception was so great. We do strive to make your stay as comfortable, fun and relaxing as possible. Cooking a fresh catch on the big outdoor grill is an experience all our guests seem to love! We hope perhaps you will return to celebrate an anniversary some day!

We have now made this an annual family tradition to gather at the Blue Bayou! The house is perfect for the amount of people that reunite every April. We have made wonderful memories hanging out on the canal watching the boats pass by while enjoying a glass of wine and grilling Gulf shrimp on the commercial grade charcoal pit. The house is beautifully decorated in every room and couldn't be more inviting. Take a swim in the pool on a hot day or rent the neighbors pontoon for the afternoon, there is always something fun to do at the Bayou! Thank you for creating such a magical place for our family to meet every year. We truly feel like you have opened your house and your island lifestyle to us.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: THANK YOU! We are SO HAPPY that you look forward to yearly reunions to celebrate Easter and Family! We agree, the built-in grill by the Bayou is the place to hang out and enjoy your vacation! Even in chillier months the heated private pool is really great and the house is cozy even on a rainy day. We love to share our home and we really feel that we don't have renters - we have GUESTS. Check out our 2014 calendar and start planning your return visit!

Spent Thanksgiving 2012 and found Blue Bayou to be a welcoming and well equipped home. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and they put much thought and attention into details. If you have a boat this is an ideal location close to restaurants, marinas and the uninhabited Robinson Island which makes for a beautiful day at the Beach! We give it a thumbs up accross the board and we are regulars to the Orange Beach area several times per year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are SO HAPPY you had a great Thanksgiving holiday at Blue Bayou! We take so much pride in offering a home that we ourselves would enjoy. We think comfy beds and nice bedding and towels are really important when away from home. It's great that you all enjoyed lovely little Robinson Island - it is a favorite for us too. We also love to boat to the nearby restaurants and just cruise around the beautiful bays or out into the Gulf. We are so glad you had a great visit and hopefully made great memories for Thanksgiving 2012. Please come back soon! Susan and Bill

We so enjoyed our stay in your spacious & comfortable home. This was our second visit & we hope to return again next year. Your lovely home is so roomy & bright that we were able to enjoy friends & family each day. Whether it was a cook out or finger foods, there was plenty of room for everyone. With 5 comfortable bedrooms, we were able to get a good nights sleep & start a new day enjoying coffee on the balcony (a favorite). We appreciated the addition of the hammock, (a great place for a peaceful nap) & the bikes this year. Some enjoyed the kayaks again as well. Having an elevator is an added plus for those who cannot climb stairs. We were close to shopping & restaurants, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the peace & beauty of the area. A special thank you to the couple next door who manage and care for the home. They were great too! Thank you Bill & Susan for the many extras. Hope to return next year!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are thrilled that you loved Blue Bayou as one of our returning guests! We are so glad your friends and family had a chance to enjoy each day together. The kitchen is roomy enough for a large group which is important and we agree that coffee on the balcony is very special...quiet and peaceful. In the morning you can sometimes catch a glimpse of large fish and even dolphins in the Bayou! We are glad you enjoyed the kayaks again and also the addition of the hammock and the bikes! We so appreciate the wonderful couple next door who are our property managers. They really look out for Blue Bayou and are so helpful to all of our guests whether dealing with the occasional small repair or with great advice about restaurants or best fishing spots. We also hope you will be able to return next year! Bill and Susan

Wow! What a great property the "Blue Bayou" is. Our family spent a week relaxing at the beach and playing family games and doing puzzels together. What a way to bring the family together. I had my seven grandchildren present, so I was in heaven. Oh, and did I mention the great meals we cooked for each other in the spacious kitchen? There was plenty of room for all. We had five families represented with plenty of parking for cars, trucks and trailers. However, we did have a family member missing this year. My brother had found the "Blue Bayou" for all of us to enjoy together months ago. He passed away in May and therefore was unable to go with us. We had a beautiful memorial service for him under the spacious boat dock and spread his ashes in the Bayou. He loved the water and I know he would be happy to know he was a big part of our wonderful week at the "Blue Bayou". We also enjoyed the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area as well. We took a Dolphin tour and saw a dozen or more. We fished, swam at the beach which is just a short few minutes away and of course we did some shopping. If there are any scrapbookers out there contimplating the "Blue Bayou", there is a great store called Gigi's and the local restaurants are outstanding. I guess you can safely say...We enjoyed our week immensely.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so happy we were able to provide a comfortable place for you and your family to reconnect and to celebrate your brother’s life. It sounds like you really bonded with your grandchildren and of course they will always remember this trip. How cool that you saw the dolphins. The kids must have loved it! There really is so much to do in the area, and it’s close to all the action and yet it is so much more peaceful than the busy condos on the beach. It would be great to make Blue Bayou an annual vacation destination and your home away from home. It sounds like there may be a Family Vacation 2012 Scrapbook in the making! Thank you for adding to the layers of memories that make our home so special to us. We welcome you and your family back anytime!

We had a wonderful vacation at Blue Bayou. Our family enjoyed this home so much, it accomodated all our needs, so spacious and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the pool, kayaks, fishing and boating for sightseeing and travelling to some wonderful restaurants. Our next door neighbors were very nice and helpful. Blue Bayou home is #1 as a vacation rental home in our opinion, the best vacation home we have rented. We had so much fun just getting out and riding in the boat, went to see the fireworks by boat, went to The Wharf by boat and out to some of the smaller islands to jet ski and swim. We will definitely be going back to Blue Bayou home in the future. Bill and Susan, thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality, and for making our stay at your home such a pleasurable one. We will have some wonderful memories of this time together with our family. We wish you both well and thank you again for all your kindness.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so thrilled that you had a wonderful time at "Blue Bayou"! Orange Beach is such a special place that grabs a place in your heart and that you want to return to year after year. There's always so much going on in the area and then you have the peaceful home on the Bayou to come home to. We hope that you will be back to have more fun and to make more memories...there is so much more to do than you can possibly accomplish in a week and there are always new and exciting things to do on the Gulf. Thanks for visiting and we hope see you again!

Our family of 13 really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Bayou. The owners make the house so comfortable and clean, ready to move in for a weeks stay. We had grandchildren from ages 2 to 12. They used the pool, the kayacks, fished, played on the pool table, used the playstation, and used the hammock. Nearby activities that we enjoyed were Adventure Island with games, and rides. Also the children went to ride on go carts out on Hwy.59 called The Track. They loved Souvenier City, last but not least they visited Build a Bear at the shopping area at the Wharf. There are some really wonderful restaurants close by, one being Doc's, Original Oyster House, and Tacky Jack's. We made a lot of pictures, and this is a vacation that we will never forget. Thank you William and Susan!Recommended for: Adventure seekers
Owner response: We are so happy that you had such a great time at "Blue Bayou" and that the kids had so much fun. I'm sure they will always remember their vacation on the Gulf. It would be great to make it a tradition! There really are so many entertaining things for kids to do including the Alabama Gulf Coast zoo and great adventures like The Track, Waterville, Mini Golf and so much more. Just swimming, shelling and building sand castles make great memories for kids as well. I'm glad they enjoyed the kayaks, the pool, the ping pong and Playstation. Thanks and we hope you will return to "Blue Bayou"!

We were blown away with how beautiful and relaxing our visit to the Blue Bayou vacation home was. A short drive from the airport, and a short canal ride to the gulf! We so enjoyed hanging out at the pool, fishing in the canal and cooking on the outdoor grill. Our guest rooms were more than comfortable, spacious and definitely set the scene for our vacation. We will be back next year with our kids! Thank you for helping us to create new family memories. Fondly, The Jameson'sRecommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: We are so glad you had a chance to relax and enjoy Blue Bayou and Orange Beach! Eight of us stayed at the house at the end of March. Six adults and 2 childres (ages 16 & 10) All of us had a blast. The house was very clean and the beds more comfortable than the ones we have at home. You do not find that often! Stores are conveniently located but you are off of the main drag so ever the spring breakers were not a problem for us! If you go, make sure you see the Blue Angels in training. The elevator was a blessing for loading in everything and avoiding the stairs. We had wild life in our backyard and chameleons on the deck! We had 3 large SUVs and had no trouble parking them on the drive.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are so happy you all had a great time at Blue Bayou and that everyone found the beds so comfortable! We think comfy beds and bedding are an integral part of a successful vacation and we always look for this feature when we vacation, so this was a priority for us when furnishing Blue Bayou for our guests. We agree that it’s great having the Publix grocery store less than 5 minutes away. They carry all the usual grocery staples as well as gourmet and specialty items in their awesome deli section. It’s nice to have the CVS Pharmacy right there as well and there are lots of surf shops close by where you can pick up beach towels, beach toys or flip-flops! The Blue Angels practicing overhead should not be missed – they practice every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at around 8:30. We are lucky to be able to offer the convenience of an elevator for those who are unable to navigate stairs or just want the convenience of bringing groceries and supplies easily to the upper level. We also love the wildlife and our visits from “Harry the Heron” who stops in each morning and at dusk along the Bayou. We look forward to your return visit...we hope you think of Blue Bayou as a place to call your ”Home away from Home”!

Our family spent a week enjoying this wonderful home. It it so large that my kids even got lost a few times. Plenty big enough for two large families. Orange Beach was beautiful. From out boat we could see the bottem15ft deep, off of the beach side. Lots of dolphins. The fishing was great. Caught a 40lb snapper. Whew... what a workout! We will definately return and stay here again. The owners make everything seamless.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Our family of 25 met at Blue Bayou and shared one of the most memorable Thanksgivings any of us have every had and this would not have been possible if not for William and Susan's beautiful and accomodating Blue Bayou Home! Everyone had plenty of room and bathrooms galore. of course only 15 of us stayed there, but most of the time we had 25 people there at any given time and everyone was comfortable, felt at home, and loved the view. Weather was great, the beaches in that area are beautiful and very close. We hope to go there again in the near future! Thanks Bill and Susan from all of us!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for such a lovely story about your Thanksgiving Holiday at Blue Bayou! We have had some great stories from guests who needed a place to get together and reconnect. Each story means so much to us and we are truly grateful to be able to share our home. We were fortunate to recently host our own family reunion at Blue Bayou and as they say “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.” We are happy you could savor those moments. Blue Bayou is a great house, but the families and friends who love it make it a home. Thanks so much for being our guests. Hope you will come back soon! Bill and Susan

We so enjoyed our two wk. stay @ your lovely home! This clean and well kept home and yard (with plenty of parking) is located in a peaceful and quiet neighborhood. Bill & Susan have furnished it with everything you need, and then some. Each room is comfortably furnished, & the elevator made it possible for those unable to climb stairs to enjoy time with family & friends as well. For us this was a real plus!! The spacious home provided plenty of room to entertain & enjoy friends. I would certainly recommend this home. The owners were great to work with which was an added bonus. We had the most perfect vacation at Blue Bayou! We have a large family with 8 grandchildren, so we definitely used the space. The description was very helpful, everything was totally clean, and the owners were so kind as we were inquiring about our stay. They also have wonderful neighbors who were helpful. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a family vacation. Parking is always an issue for all of us, but not here. We took boats. The guys loved the fishing and kids loved going to the little beach islands to look for seashells. We also got to see the dolphins playing. Great time was had by all! We had a large group (12 adults + kids) stay at Blue Bayou and everyone LOVED it! It is such a beautiful home and very spacious. The neighbors on each side are very welcoming and friendly. We loved the pool and the recreation room. A lot of us went kayaking. (It is only 5 minutes to the ocean by kayak!) We even saw an alligator in the canal early one morning!!! There are several beaches within a 5 minute drive. All the beaches we went to were beautiful, not crowded, and had plenty of parking. My family and I went to Orange Beach for the first time. We had the awesome pleasure of staying at the "Blue Bayou Home" and boy did we enjoy. We had a lot of serious issues that we were dealing with in our family. Naming a couple, death of my brother and husband, cancer, and report of fatal heart disease. We needed to get away and enjoy each other to embrace the gift of life. The home was able to accommodate our large group ( 18) without challenge. Everyone enjoyed fishing in the canal out back and swimming in the pool. The kayaks were a first for my sons which they completely loved. The beaches are very close to the home. At the end of the stay, reality began to set in and no one wanted to leave the home. This experience was truly a blessing for our family. It is truly a home away from home. We can't wait to come back next year! ( or maybe this year?) who knows!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

I just returned home from Blue Bayou and can't wait to bring my family back next year! Blue Bayou is a beautiful home with ample room for a large family or multiple families. We had 13 people in our party, and we all slept comfortably....in fact, we had plenty of room to spare! The interior of the house looks like it belongs in a Pottery Barn magazine...a very laid back and comfortable beach style. We felt right at home when we walked through the door! Cotton Bayou offers such a great sense of community...especially for boat lovers! The neighbors are incredible and you can charter a fishing trip right next door! You wouldn't believe the size of the red snapper our guys came home with. My husband, an avid fisherman, said it was the best charter he's ever been on! The beautiful outdoor space, boat slip, private pool, and fabulous interior certainly make Blue Bayou a great find for families visiting Orange Beach. I am counting the days until next summer!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for visiting Blue Bayou! We still can't believe the size and quantities of Red Snapper you all caught that week. We can't wait to welcome you again next year! Bill and Susan

We had a blast at Blue Bayou and I am planning a return trip with some fishing buddies to take advantage of the canal and fish cleaning station that even has running water and a sink. Fishing guides are plentiful in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, and can pick you up right at the house and be in the bay within minutes. The house has been recently renovated and decorated with all new really great furnishings. The canal is right out the door and its a short boat ride to the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It's also close to the beaches, fishing (obviously I love to fish), restaurants and shopping. The weather was great with really warm temperatures. My wife and I loved the very well equipped kitchen so we could cook a great meal at home when we were not going out to eat. There are tons of cool restaurants and bars that are really nearby. We also loved grilling out on the deck and we even cooked a few steaks on the built-in grill down by the canal while listening to music. WiFi is provided and there are several big flat screen TV's. Each of the 5 bedrooms is nicely furnished and include TV's. The pool was awesome and perfect for cooling off on a couple of the hottest days. We highly recommend this great vacation getaway and we can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so happy that you loved your stay at Blue Bayou and we hope you'll be back soon. The fantastic fishing is a great reason to visit the area and with the Gulf being so close Blue Bayou is the perfect location! Bill and Susan
