“We all need to recharge our batteries from time to time. If you like peace and quiet, and a gentle, relaxing shape to your day, you won’t find a better place than Sanibel, or a prettier, more romantic setting than our house at Gulf Pines.”
“You’ll love the community pool and tennis courts, right across the street from the house.
And when you want to walk in the sand, collect shells, or catch some fish, you are less than five minutes from the warm waters of the Gulf. Just turn left out of the house, and walk for a minute to the beginning of our private beach path. Under the dappled shade of sea grapes and palms, this magical path leads you to what is one the finest (and quietest) beaches on the island. It must be the loveliest way to get to a beach, anywhere in the world.”
Recently remodelled, with new bathrooms, kitchen and bamboo flooring, you’ll feel right at home the moment you arrive at our 3 bed/2 bath romantic island hideaway.
Built, like most the houses at Gulf Pines, on stilts, all the living accommodation is on the first floor, with a 2-car garage and workshop below.
Nestled among the palms in this delightful beachfront community, the house has everything you need for a relaxing and revitalising vacation.
The open plan living and dining room is light and airy, with a vaulted ceiling, and sliding glass doors onto two screened lanais, a small one at the front, and a larger one at the back of the house.
The kitchen has all-new appliances and granite worktops, with a counter than opens onto the dining area.
For your entertainment and communications with the outside world, the house has cable TV and WiFi (Wireless Internet). There is a 32” HD TV, a DVD, and a Stereo (with CD Player and iPod dock) in the living room.
With a newly-appointed ensuite bathroom (with bath) and vanity area, the master bedroom has a queen size bed, along with a full-size closet, and has sliding glass doors that lead directly onto the lanai at the back of the house. From there you can step out onto the deck, and then walk down to the steps to the garden. Full of mature palms, including three giant Washingtonians, the garden, with its pretty shell path, is a lovely and peaceful place to be.
The second bedroom has a queen size bed and a full-size closet, and is right opposite the second bathroom, which has a new vanity unit and shower. Just wait until you use the shower for the first time – it has a ‘pebble’ floor, and it feels great on your feet, a bit like standing on a riverbed.
Next to the bathroom is a closet with a washer and dryer, so there’s no need to go downstairs to do the laundry.
The third bedroom is currently being used as a den/study, with a sleeper sofa, armchair, a desk, and a flat-screen HD TV (with iPod dock). It’s an ideal place to set up your laptop and let everyone know what you a great time you are having.
If you prefer not to use the air conditioning, the bedrooms and lanais each have ceiling fans, and with sliding lanai doors open, the gentle gulf air feels lovely on your skin.
Below the house you’ll find the garage, with a workbench, and a sink. There is another refrigerator (great for beer and frozen fishing bait), plus beach chairs, fishing gear, and two bikes.
If you haven’t used the bike paths on Sanibel, you should try them out this trip. It’s a fun and healthy way to get around, and everyone is so friendly.
From the house you are about five minutes from the bike path that goes up to Captiva (a long ride), or in the other direction towards the shops and restaurants of Sanibel. We are close to the excellent facilities of the Sanibel Recreation Center, where you can swim, work out, or do water aerobics any day of the week. Just past the Center is the entrance to the famous Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge, a magnet for birds, and birders, from around the world.
If that sounds like a lot to do, you can always just potter down to the beach, and wait for the dolphins to show up – usually around 11.00am.
Gulf Pines is a very special community. Established over 30 years ago, 110 wood-frame houses share this haven of peace and tranquillity with lots of wildlife and native vegetation. We have so many beautiful birds, such as osprey, ibis, heron, and egrets, plus one of Sanibel’s three nesting pairs of bald eagles, right by the entrance to Gulf Pines. There are gopher tortoises, raccoons, and even a family of otters.
Many of the owners have their second homes here, and come to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, to slow down for a while, and get back in touch with nature.
“It’s very tempting to just switch the world off, to relax, to sit and talk, or read under an umbrella on the sundeck, or enjoy a cold glass of wine or a beer on the lanai. Watch the eagles and osprey sweep overhead during the day, or gaze at the enormous blanket of stars at night. With its shell roads and no streetlights, Gulf Pines is truly at one with nature and its timeless beauty.”
Please note: The City of Sanibel does not allow rentals of single family homes for less than a month.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Gulf Pines:
My wife and I have been coming to Sanibel from the UK for over 25 years.
Despite the many long-haul flights, it’s always worth it.
The minute we cross over the causeway and onto the island,
we feel we have arrived, again, in paradise.
Our families have followed us too, with parents, siblings and children all enjoying the unique qualities of this special place.
We used to own a condo on the island, and now we have our lovely beach house. It is a place of so many happy memories, and with many more to come. We hope you will enjoy it just as much as we do.
Martin and Sharon Cull
If you would like to find out more, please email in the first instance if that's possible. As we are based in the UK most of the time, to save you the trouble (and cost) of calling, we can call you back, at a time to suit you. Just leave a number for us to call you on. We do check our emails several times a day, so we will get back to you right away. Thanks.
