RARE SMALL CHALET allows privacy and peacefulness of a vacation home at the size and price of a 2 BR condo. We welcome many honeymooners and small families. This is a family home rather than a typical condo, making it a comfortable retreat for both active guests and "home bodies." Private hot tub and winter shuttle. The guest unit of the chalet has a spacious layout of 1200 sq. feet and is furnished with family antiques from around the world. Fresh flowers, coffee beans, heavy terrycloth robes, down comforters and a boot/glove dryer are a few of the extras that make your stay at Cleftstone special. The chalet has both a residential and a guest unit, each completely private from the other. The owners are a local Steamboat family who are available for any needed concierge services. The chalet is cleaned and maintained with care by the owners. National Forest access is 50 yards up the road with excellent snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking and biking trails.
SUMMER: Hiking and mountain biking trails can be accessed directly from the chalet. Front deck with hot tub is situated on a small front lawn and looks out at beautiful National Forest. Great sunsets and the creek across the road provide a beautiful, peaceful backdrop.
WINTER: Cleftstone Chalet is 1 min. from the Thunderhead Express Lift (which goes to the top of the gondola) but a world away from the crowds of the base area. Located in Burgess Creek Canyon, the views of the upper ski area slopes and National Forest are spectacular. Private shuttle picks up every half hour and runs to the Thunderhead Lift and the Gondola/Base Area. Evening shuttle runs to grocery stores and restaurants. Rental car not necessary in Winter. Private deck, front yard for snow play and hot tub.

Perfect family chalet to enjoy Steamboat Just returned from what the family unanimously voted the best ski-holiday ever! The fantastic Steamboat snow conditions (almost daily dose of fresh powder), variety of slopes, friendly and welcoming people and the spectacular Steamboat winter carnival were all important ingredients. But we were extremely pleased with our choice of Cleftstone Chalet as our place to stay. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left it felt like home. A warm & welcoming atmosphere, with all the amenities, great beds with luxury bed linen. Cupboard of games, tv/dvd with several movies. A well appointed kitchen already stocked with more than the basic seasoning, oils, sauces etc.. And of course the hot tub! As added bonus: Emily as the friendly next door neighbour watching out for us, cleaning the pathway of snow and generally making sure we had everything and more what we needed (for example cleaning our car of snow before we left). Emily can also help you out with ski-lift passes etc. at better rates than you would be able to get online. Although not ski-in/out the chalet is located only a few uphill turns in the road from the Thunderhead Express Lift from where you can either ski down to the Gondola Base area or start your day of skiing. The Moving Mountains shuttle buses that stop (almost) in front of the house provided a perfect way to get to and from the slopes. Although probably not recommendable in general, on a few occasions (with fresh snow falling) we were even able to ski back to the house from Thunderhead. The only houses with better locations are the few true ski in/ski out houses located on the slopes. However I would recommend having a car available whilst staying here to do shopping, visit downtown Steamboat etc. For those renting gear, this will also enable you to get a great deal at the One-stop Ski Shop at Yampa & 11th in downtown (~half of the cost of the rental stores closer by the slopes). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly consider it top of our list when we return to Steamboat, Ski Town USA!

This property is the best at Steamboat! It is a very spacious and well kept 2 bedroom/2 bath unit with luxorious ammenities. We had 6 people there at one point and everyone had a bed - no one slept on the floor/air matress. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook meals in. You have WiFi, shuttle service around the area, and a toasty fireplace (perfect for warming up at the end of the day) included when staying here. The washer/dryer is nice to dry out your clothes or wash and wear the same thing multiple times so you don't have to pack as much. The hot tub is fantastic and there are 6 robes on the property, which are perfect to wear to walk across the deck to the hot tub. I've only had robes provided at high end hotels and this is one of my favorite amenities, so this chalet blew my expectations out of the park. You are literally steps from the Thunderhead lift at the ski resort - this place is better than ski in/ski out hotel rooms! I will not stay anywhere else in Steamboat!"

My husband David and I got engaged @ Strawberry park and then I was even more surprised by where we stayed. Emily was amazing, we had fresh flowers and champagne. It was such an intimate and cozy experience we have been back since and will always prefer to stay at the Chalet. I am very thankful for our wonderful experiences.

We have stayed here many times, both in winter to ski & summer to enjoy the area. David & Emily are hosts that are there when you want them & scarce when you prefer privacy. We wouldn't think of staying with anyone else. A wonderful home away from home!! You will NOT be disappointed!

Just got home from Steamboat and truly enjoyed our stay at Clefstone! It is a wonderful chalet that had everything we needed. There was plenty of room for all five of us and the view from the living room is beautifu! I was very comfortable and felt at home at this chalet. My son loved playing with the dogs. They were so funny! My friend Sheila booked this chalet and she couldn't have found a better place. Can't wait until next time!
