~~LOCATION~~
Our home in Castello is a rustic two-story stone building that dates back to the medieval period nestled high in the hills of Northwestern Tuscany above the village of Valdottavo in the Serchio River Valley.
~~OUR HOME~~
~~Our home is situated high on a hillside with the Apuan Alps in the distance overlooking three beautiful valley towns.
~~Our Patio has outstanding views, surrounded with variety of trees and plants. Our White Fig tree’s succulent fruit goes perfect with a glass of white wine. Pomegranate trees, as well as Rosemary, Lavender, and Jasmine plants add a special fragrance to the outdoor dining area.
~~The grapevine shaded terrace provides a perfect spot to relax and watch the sun setting over the Apuan Alps. In addition, the patio is ideal for sunbathing and outdoor dining.
~~For outdoor enthusiasts, right out front there are trails for biking, hiking, or just taking a leisurely pasagiotta.
~~The house is a traditional Tuscan country home furnished with antiques. Terracotta tiled floors and white stucco walls complement the exposed beams made from ancient chestnut wood.
~~The first floor consists of a kitchen equipped with the basic essentials as well as a fireplace providing that extra glow during the winter months and candle lighting in the summer to add a special ambiance to your romantic evenings. In addition, the first floor has a dining/sitting room with a West view, great for sunsets.
~~The second floor has one bathroom and two bedrooms; one queen size and the other bedroom containing two single beds. At the end of the day you are bound to hear the soulful hoot of our resident Owl from your bedroom.
~~There are two private parking spots suitable for small cars located right outside of the house.
~~PROXIMITY TO CITIES & TOWNS~~
A corner of Tuscany that is off the beaten track, away from the hustle of tourists this natural gem has many areas to be discovered; world famous biking, quiet trails and awe inspiring views of two mountain ranges; Alpi Apuane Marble Mountains and Apennienes. With that being said, you are a short drive to many towns and cities;
~~The house is a short 15 min. drive to Lucca; 1 hour to Florence; 45 mins. to the Pisa Airport; and 40 mins. to the beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi. Carrara, and Montecatini Spas are also about 40 mins. by car.
~~LOCAL FARE~~
~~There is great local food shopping within the towns of Valdottavo and Borgo a Mozzano. The shopping ranges from freshly butchered meat, baked goods, fresh pasta, pizza, etc. Let’s not forget shoe shopping.

we spent three nights in castello and it was amazing! the house sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful tuscan valley with a stone deck perfect for eating relaxing dinners and drinking wine. we had a great time exploring the surrounding countryside and the people were fantastic. we loved our stay and definitely recommend castello if you're looking to get away and enjoy the best food/wine/scenery/experiences that tuscany has to offer.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: We just love the thought of sharing our special place with the hope of our guests creating wonderful memories that will be with them for a life time. One of our favorite things to do there is to have a relaxing dinner outside on the patio and watch the sun set over the mountains. This is a true Tuscan experience .

My husband and I stayed at this lovely home in this most amazing location. The house and location that you see are exactly what it looks like, but being there in person was so much more spectacular. Situated high atop the mountains, it feels like the world is at your doorstep. The owners went out of their way to make our stay a delight making sure the house was emaculate, full of all the amenties we could ever need and giving us great suggestions and tips from siteseeing locations, shopping places, that perfect little local restaurant that had the best pasta I ever had. And the olives! And the mozzarella! I drool still thinking about them. The city of Lucca is absolutely charming and is a short drive from the house. We highly recommend this beautiful home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: As travelers ourselves, we know how stressful planning a vacation can be, so we try to ease some of the stress and make your stay a memorable one. In addition, we just love our home and want to share it with others.

My wife and I spent two weeks of our honeymoon in Castello, and it was simply fantastic. An excellent location from which to take day trips to the mountains in the north, the sea to the west, and you are an ear's shot from Lucca which is a real treat. The view is remarkable, you really can't get it through the photos. The local towns are great, small, but you're within range of any activity you could think of. The hosts were fantastic, they left us a nice bottle of bubbly and a beautiful candle holder as a wedding gift. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: Stephanie and I have a friend nearby who has lived in the area for many years. We visited him on a regular basis until one year we decided to find a place of our own. Our main residence is in the Hudson Valley of the great state of New York. When not in the Hudson Valley, we are in Lucca enjoying a glass of Prosecco and attending fantastic Festivals .
Why the Owner Chose Valdottavo:
We have visited many places in the world, but have found none as magical as
Castello and the friendly local Contadini.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We find great pleasure in treking the woods of Castello with the local dog and lunching at one of the local mountain restaurants, or walking down the goat trail to Valdottovo to visit the 'bar' for an espresso.
Let's not forget the simple joy of reading a good book on the patio.
