My family, my parents and my brother's family stayed here in July of 2011. Absolutely beautiful home and we would come back again in a heartbeat. It is a bit cost prohibitive, so we probably couldn't afford to come here every year, but it is a truly lovely home.

About: This is a single family home, we have owned it for many years for our private use. My husband and I are in the medical profession and have 2 children in middle school. We are from the Chicago area and grew up with a love of the Great Lakes. Truly a national treasure, Lake Michigan was a favorite summertime destination. We searched for years for the right setting along the shores of Southwest Michigan for a vacation home. The first time I saw the wooded winding road leading to the property and saw the gorgeous lakefront I knew this was the place for us. We love to travel, but with small children and full time jobs, we couldn't get away enough. With a property like this, we could be on vacation every weekend. The privacy and beauty of this location are hard to beat. We have 110 feet of private frontage along the beach which is wide and sandy. You can walk for miles along mostly private or semi-private beachfront. And you can hear the sound of the lake from every room in the house. When it is windy this sound can be overwhelming, but this makes for the best body surfing conditions you can imagine! On calm days, you can barely see the water lap upon the shore, but you can still hear it from the house. Fall asleep or read a book to the sounds of the lake. It is amazingly soothing either way. So many friends and family who come to stay at our home ask what there is to do around the area. Well, there are unlimited fun and exciting spots to visit from our home base. But we always warn guests that once they hit the beach they are not going to want to leave the property. We love to share our home, it is a wonderful spot to enjoy with family and friends. A huge plus of having a home this size, is that you can all spend time together and still have quiet private time to yourself. We have spent many family holidays at the lake. Even Christmas is spectacular at the lake. People ask “Well couldn’t we get stuck there in the snow?” and I say “You can always hope!”
This location in Southwest Michigan has so much to offer. The sunsets are the biggest draw for me. The small towns, orchards and wineries lead us on beautiful drives through scenic rolling hills. I love harvest time the best! Specialty restaurants, local festivals and events provide all kinds of diversions. From here you can easily drive to Chicago, Ann Arbor, Detroit and so many other exciting cities. My favorites are the small towns you never heard of that each have something unique to offer. If you live a drivable distance to Southwest Michigan you will be amazed at how "on vacation" you will feel without traveling far from home. If you have never been to the Great Lakes you really must come here. The Great Lakes are a national treasure accounting for over 1/5 of the WORLDS fresh water supply. If you have ever been to a small lake or an ocean and wished you could combine the best things about both...welcome to the answer to your dreams! When you look out over our beach you will think you are on an ocean. But feel the sand and the clean fresh water on your skin and you will know the joy of the Great Lakes. It is staggering to imagine that you could sit on a length of clean private fresh water beach, the envy of hundreds of beach-goes who fight for a space for their towel, and see only your children splashing in the water. We are extremely lucky to have found this spot in the Midwest that is in so special in so many ways. There are a lot of fabulous places in the USA and the world, but often there is a high price to pay to visit there. You must fly long distances and pay high rates everywhere you go and stay. Then on top of it you are surrounded by hoards of other travelers and inconveniences. Give me a quiet spot on the beach with all the luxuries of home and all the privacy of a cabin in the woods and I am truly going to feel the benefits of a vacation!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
There are many benefits to this property In addition to the prime 110 feet of private lake Michigan frontage, we are nestled in 10 acres of wooded sand dunes. You can hike or jog the beach, the access road or the deer trails. On the beach we set up a 10 x 10 canvas shelter every summer to provide shade. Without the sunshade there is no break from the hot sun and sand. It is almost 5 degrees cooler under there! If you have little ones you will appreciate not having to fret quite so much about sunburn. We also have a huge firepit built right on the edge of the woods overlooking the beach. Countless hours have been spent making s'mores, hot-dogs, or just watching the sun set. The house has everything you need to feel at home. Fully equipped kitchen, huge dinning room, piped gas grill, 2 laundry rooms, theater room and scores of books games and movies to keep you all having fun if you ever stay indoors. We have a full basement with a kitchenette area that has a second refrigerator, micro, coffee maker and counter-top eating area so two families could have a little space to themselves. The 3rd level loft tops the living areas with a "secret" ladder and entryway where kids can read, play games and "camp-out". Hours of fun and games awaits the kids and all they need to bring is a little imagination and maybe their favorite blankie. Rock hunting and searching for beach treasures is also a favorite pastime. We have collected many remarkable things off the beach including: geodes, fossils, beach glass, shells, bones, and driftwood. Please don't burn the driftwood, it is far to beautiful! Stargazing is amazing on the beach, you can see the milky-way and if you watch the astrological calendar you may get lucky and see some shooting stars or meteor showers. The unique setting on this critical dunes area affords a fabulous learning experience for kids and adults alike to explore a one of a kind ecosystem. The possibilities are endless!
