“A fun stay, great pool and grounds.” The studio with the sofabed was uncomfortable even for a Despite those two problems the North shore location is great, the kitchen had everything you need, the pool and grounds are tropical and scenic. It is a long walk to the beach on a steep paved walkway but they offer a shuttle cart to and from the beach. The beach is great for snorkling and has a sandy shore. Do'nt be one of the many tourist who walk out onto the coral reefs, the reefs are living organisms, it looks like rock but it's not. I noticed too many people were doing this. Area recommendations The North Shore is the best place to go in my opinion. We just returned from a fantastic visit to Kauai's north shore. The Hanalei Bay in Princeville is the perfect place to experience this island for the first time. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, we had a beautiful view of the back of Hanalei valley. It rained hard the last few days of our trip and the kids counted 20 waterfalls on the mountains! Pretty much everything we needed was provided, however the coffee was the one thing lacking. We were hoping to experience true "Kona" coffee instead of the usual hotel fare. (We did eventually find our coffee-mecca at Hanaleitown's Java Kai.) It was hard even to get our kids away from the amazing swimming pool at HBR. Both the pool and jacuzzi use the salt purification systems so there was no chlorine experience. Waterfalls and lush tropical plants surround the pool and spa. The landcaping and views are the best we have seen. We visited Lumahai Beach on our third day on the advice of a local and were not disappointed. We were treated to a "bali hi" sunset that rivaled any award-winning photograph. The people were extremely friendly and helpful from booking the place to housekeeping to the women at the front desk. The resort is huge and there is a whole fleet of electric carts to take you around... not to mention moving our considerable luggage. One of the greatest simple pleasures was to be able to wake up early and walk right down to the beach (alongside the princeville hotel). We heartily recommend Hanalei Bay and will surely return next year. About the owner: My wife and I stay in Princeville, Kauai almost six months a year. Hanalei Bay is one of our favorite places. The view is always spectacular.
Why the Owner Chose Hanalei Bay Resort:
Everyone is very friendly. We play tennis everyday at 3:30PM. There is no need to make reservations or book courts. People just show-up and play. They always make room for you. The golf is excellent also.
