We drove down from St. Augustine over the school's spring break to visit Legoland and we brought our dog with us. Everyone loved this house! The yard is fenced so our dog could roam the yard and enjoy all the shade back there. We had a great time at Legoland and Bok Tower Gardens. Andrew was great and we were very impressed with Winter Haven and some of the local resturants he suggested. The whole trip was very relaxing and a great 3 day get away.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This home is a great place to stay. We stayed here for a Legoland trip. The home had more than we needed to make for a great vacation. The owner is very helpful in making sure that you have an enjoyable stay. The home has plenty to offer. We enjoyed starting out the day looking for the tortoises and seeing what they were doing. The home is in a peaceful quiet area and has restaurants and shopping close by it. The pool area was great and it made for good place to relax and unwind. We would definitely recommend this home to others and we are looking forward to the possibility of staying here again in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family ennjoyed our stay in the House of Tortoises very much!! We found details attended to that we have never found in other rentals, the owner was friendly and helpful, and the space of this gorgeous, architectural design-house was great for personal space for many AND entertainment space for our family of 17, including family from the area who enjoyed this space rather than their own homes!! We had little ones and old ones so the activities were varied but there was room for everything...and we enjoyed as many of the amenities as our 6-day stay allowed!! We hope to stay here again in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This house is amazing. We were staying in central Florida to visit relatives. Not being able to be in the ideal Florida beach environment. This house has it's own pool and bar area, along with being secluded. It was our own private oasis. The owner is a really great guy. Real good people. The foliage surrounding the house, as well as, in the private back yard is amazing. The house also has all the amenities you could ask for. We cooked complete meals in the kitchen with every utensil you could ask for. The bathrooms were stocked with TP, soap, and conditioner. The turtles that live on the property were amazing to watch in the morning. The house is also close to Cypress Garden Blvd, where you can find any store or restaurant. I definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with style.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a great time at the beautiful Casa del Tortuga! Unique architecture and landscaping with an artist's eye made for a fun vacation experience. The description and pictures were right on target....the property was clean and well maintained. The owner was particularly pleasant and eager to please...made us feel right at home. Of course the tortoises are a most unique attraction, as is the coy pond. The pool area is really pretty...lots of seating poolside and it's a beautiful place to relax. All the beauty of the outdoors is brought inside though because two sides of the house are virtually solid glass! Our grandkids who came to visit us had a wonderful time, as well! Definitely recommend for families, couples or anyone else!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This property has so many amenities we could not use them all during the week of our stay. We were in town visiting relatives and found the location is convenient to both Tampa and Orlando. The owner Andy was the host with the most! He actually adjusted our check in date up a day and made our stay more than we could have expected. We were out most of the day at the hospital and the DVR allowed us to record shows we usually watch and the full kitchen was stocked with every appliance you could ever need (except cupcake tins which I bought and donated - enjoy!) We even adopted the neighborhood cat and fed the fish as if they were our own pets. We shopped at the local grocery and liquor stores, and ate and many of the local restaurants (Andy's and Pasquale's are highly recommended). All of these exceeded our expectations. We looked at different locations in Central Florida and found Winter Haven was the best of all the nearby towns. We even had our anniversay dinner at the Italian place in downtown. We thought the beds were very comfortable as well as the other furniture. As close as we could get to being at our own home. There is no way to describe how incredible this property is - you will not be disappointed. We will definitely return next summer!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family of 5 was coming to WInter Haven to visit Legoland and we were looking for somewhere to stay that would give us a little more room and privacy than a hotel room. We came across the Casa del Tortuga listing and were pleased to find that it was available for that weekend. As soon as my kids saw photos of the house, they were excited by the prospect of staying there. The photos on the listing were accurate and the house ended up exceeding our expectations. The property owner met us to give us the key for the weekend and gave us a tour of the house and grounds. He was an excellent host and made sure we knew where to find what we needed and how to work all the lights and electronics. The house itself was terrific, but the rest of the property makes the place even more special. The landscaping is beautiful and there is a wonderful outdoor area with a pool, bar, and grill. My kids were as happy (or happier) to spend time at the house as they were to be at Legoland. Overall, Casa del Tortuga gave our family a wonderful place to relax and spend time together when our time at the park was done each day. We would highly recommend this home for either a short or extended getaway. It was great for our family and would be great as a place for a few couples to get together for a weekend, also.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Beautiful home, very clean with all of the amenities you can think of. Our family spent the weekend since we were celebrating my son's birthday at Legoland, which was only less then a mile away. Pool was clean with a spacious backyard. Definitely recommendable for a family of 6 people.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About: Hello. My name is Andrew. I have been creating this resort-like atmosphere for the last 7 years at my house, here in Winter Haven, FL. I live in the pool house at the back of the property. I am available to answer questions, make quick repairs, or you may think of me as your own concierge of sorts. I have a remodeling business and have used my resources to make this rental property into a beautiful and relaxing place.
Why Winter Haven:
I bought this home from my Uncle 7 years ago. He is a landscape designer and artist. The house was built in 1966 in the style of the famous local architect, Gene Leedy. The house was built with modern architectural form into a gracious subtropical world of natural abundance. My Uncle shaped much of the landscape over a 12 year period in which he owned the property. After I purchased this little slice of paradise, my Uncle and I joined forces and the place started evolving. Lots of decks, outdoor living spaces, places to sit and relax and commune with nature.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The most unique part about this house is the openness and the view of the outdoors. You get a sense of being outside and can watch the natural Florida wildlife from the comfort of the air-conditioning. The 10 foot high, vine-covered, concrete block wall surrounding the courtyard provides privacy from the world beyond the wall. There are currently 8 red-foot tortoises living in their own custom habitat inside the wall. You can relax in the living room and watch these little guys for hours. It's easy to forget where you are. Every one of my friends who see Casa del Tortuga for the first time have a similar reaction... 'I can't believe this place is in Winter Haven.'
