Enjoy stunning mountain views from the open space beaver ponds or recreation path that this 'eco-home' sit on, in the historic neighborhood of Bill's Ranch just SE of Frisco. This hand-built home was constructed of recycled material blocks (known as RASTRA or PERFORM-WALL) that have 2-3 times the insulating value of most homes, along with exposed beams (plus trim and most wood in the house) made from local pine-beetle-kill logs. In-floor radiant heat is offset by a wood-burning stove in the main living area. On a recent 'green homes tour' this home was a favorite of many participants!
You'll drive down a recreation/bike path to access this house, and from here, can ride or walk to many beautiful viewpoints, including Rainbow lake which is only 1 mile away, and downtown Frisco for shopping and dining, also a mile away. We lock off the garage when we go, but you can still park several cars in the driveway off the recreation path.
Our family, including two kids & two dogs, live here as our primary residence, so when you come for your vacation, we're on vacation as well! Kids and dogs are welcome!! Seniors or people with disabilities may have a hard time with the stairs accessing our home, or the ladder leading to the kid's loft which can be used as a sleeping area (2-3, depending on how adventurous!).
Cool summer days and nights can be enjoyed on the outdoor patio beside a small stream and gas BBQ grill. Snowy winter nights can be enjoyed by the wood-stove inside the 'cozy great-room'. The half-bath upstairs shows some of the history of this area, with pedestal sink made of a full section of pine log. The kitchen is complete with modern appliances, except for the antique gas stove-oven combination (Wedgewood, from the 50's). Pilot lights are always burning on this unit, but we have C02 detectors in the house for safety.
Downstairs you will find the three bedrooms, full bath (with a soaking tub), washer and dryer. These are small to medium sized rooms, as we like to be together upstairs, or outside! The queen bed is in the adult bedroom, the double is in the girl's bedroom, and the twin bunk-bed is in the boy's bedroom.
Did we mention how close we are to Breckenridge, Keystone, A-Basin, Vail, Copper, or Silverthorne-Dillon? A free bus from Frisco will take you to any of these places, except Vail. Copper is 6 miles (15 minutes), Breckenridge 9 miles (20 minutes), Keystone & A-Basin 15 miles (25 minutes), Vail 25 miles (depending on the pass conditions and I-70, 30 minutes) close. Frisco is your place to shop and find great places to eat.

"We had a wonderful time. Thank you for allowing us to stay here. Your house is awesome! The kids loved the loft, we loved the decor. You have sold us on radiant floor heat. We always thought it sounded good but now we know if we ever build our dream home it WILL have radiant floor heat. We also discovered ski Cooper while we were here. One of the nice ladies at the visitor center recommended it so we skied Copper 2 days, and ski-Cooper 2 days. What a blast. We love both! Thanks again." About the owner: We are the local naturopathic doctors. We'll be on vacation (with our kids and 2 dogs) while you stay in our house, but you can stop and see our main street tea/herbal apothecary (Backcountry Herbal Apothecary) and clinic. There are massage practitioners and an acupuncturist there! We love whitewater kayaking and skiing (telemark, if you care) - pretty much any human-powered pursuits outdoors. You will see artifacts of this lifestyle on the walls of our house.
Why the Owner Chose Bill's Ranch:
Amazing town (Frisco) with breath-taking scenery, reminiscent of the Alps. Whitewater kayaking is in all directions, from backyard tenmile creek and the blue river, to the Arkansas river and mighty Colorado about an hour away. Skiing is everywhere, and the fresh powder unequalled. The community of this area is replete with amazing locals & part-timers.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This property is in a quiet corner of wetlands and woods, with great views of the Colorado Rockies. Our home was hand-made by us, with special attention to playful details that make families feel at home. And, your dog is welcome!
