NEW SOLAR ELECTRIC SYSTEM - WE MAKE POWER FROM SUNSHINE!
SeaGarden Cottage is a two-story home just over a block from the beach, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay in the classic seaside town of Dewey Beach. It's the quintessential beach bungalow, built in the 1930's but recently expanded and remodeled. Beautifully appointed and well maintained, it combines traditional beach cottage charm with modern comforts and amenities (including high-speed wireless Internet). It's our treasured escape from the hectic world and we're pleased to share it with you.
Pull into the semi-circular driveway with room for 3-4 cars (one parking pass provided for on-street parking as well). Enter through the bright front porch with picnic table and butterfly chairs into the main living space centered around a large sofa, 44' flat-panel TV w/Blu-Ray player and stereo system, stone fireplace and wood-beam walls, opening into a sun-filled dining area and gleaming galley kitchen with complete cookware, utensils and dishes. To the right is one bedroom with built-in dresser, two small closets, a chest of drawers and full-size bed, adjoining a full bath with tiled walk-in shower, and a knotty pine paneled den with Ikea Beddinge Lovas sofabed, a closet, 32' flat-panel TV w/VCR (and many tapes, mostly for kids).
Upstairs is the large master bath with tub, laundry room with stacking washer/dryer and closet space, master bedroom with an extremely comfortable queen-size bed and chest of drawers, and third bedroom with antique twin beds and a crib, a chest of drawers and a large closet.
Our vacation home by the sea is perfect for families (crib and highchair provided) or couples seeking a cozy retreat just a short stroll from the ocean and local restaurants. Walk out the front door and you can see the dunes and in a couple minutes you've got your toes in the ocean! After a day at the beach rinse off in the private outdoor shower (hot & cold water), cook out on the fenced rear deck and relax on the enclosed porch. On cool evenings curl up by the glowing gas fireplace. Or hop on your bike for the short ride up Bayard Ave. along Silver Lake to downtown Rehoboth, or take the stunningly beautiful 8-mile cruise south through Delaware Seashore State Park to Indian River Inlet with its immense undeveloped beach and bathhouse w/concessions (plus great striped bass and flounder fishing!).
True to the name SeaGarden Cottage, in season (~June-Sept.) there is full vegetable garden for you to pick and enjoy, along with various herbs and flowers as well.
As usual with beach houses, you'll need to supply your own bed linens and towels (except for crib sheets/blanket).
Our rental process is easy: 1) You can 'Book It' instantly (we'll respond within 24 hours), OR 2) contact us via email using the form on this page. 2a) We'll email a temporary reservation confirmation and contract for you to fill out and send back with a refundable deposit within 7 days. (We usually take the deposit by check and just hold onto it w/o actually depositing in the bank unless necessary.) If the contract is not received within 7 days, the reservation is released. Your vacation week is confirmed when the contract and deposit are in our hands and you receive email acknowledgement. 2b) First half (50%) of rent is due 8 weeks before check-in (OR upon reserving if booking online through this website) and the balance 4 weeks later. After receipt of the final rent payment we will email access details and additional info to help make your stay enjoyable and relaxing.
In season (June-Sept.) we typically rent by the week, but will sometimes consider a 4-6 day mid-week rental when we can use the weekend ourselves. Off-season (Oct.-May) has a 4-day minimum; please contact us via email for off-season rates and availability. SeaGarden Cottage is usually winterized and unavailable for rental from November through March.
We do not rent during late Spring / early Summer Graduation/Senior Weeks.

Be sure to checkout this nice modern playground located one block off the bay on the corner of McKinley Street and Hayden Road. Lots of fun for your little (and not so little ones). The Jolly Trolley picks up at Swedes St. on Rt. 1 N. and S. going to and from downtown Rehoboth Beach every half-hour or so. By far the easiest and funnest way to get around without spending half your night searching for a parking place. Best $2.50 you'll spend all week! Most of the trolleys are open-air but some are big cushy vans. http://www.jollytrolley.com/map.html...MoreCollapse
Car: Not Necessary
Usually 2 beach chairs and 2 bikes available. Dewey is the skimboard capital of the mid-Atlantic! Boards and lessons (inc. free clinics) available from Alley Oop Skim or East Of Maui Surf Shop. Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: Lee is the bioinformatics & IT director at the Johns Hopkins Center for Inherited Disease Research, Kathy is a social worker with Hospice of the Chesapeake. We love to garden and to travel far and wide but love even more coming home to our beach house in Dewey - and now our garden is here and you can share in the bounty! This really is our vacation home and our favorite place so we come to Dewey Beach every chance we get.
Why the Owner Chose Dewey Beach:
Our families have been coming to the Rehoboth area for generations, but we looked for a place at the beach for over 10 years before we found and fell in love with SeaGarden Cottage - the beach house of our dreams. Dewey Beach is the prototypical beach town, two blocks wide with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Rehoboth Bay on the other. There are dozens of restaurants from coffee shops to pizza (Grotto, Mama Celeste's) to Mexican (Que Pasa - scrumptious fish tacos) to fresh local seafood and steaks (Port) to seafood (The Cove - also has all-you-can-eat crabs) and delicious American fare (Woody's Cafe). Anything you can't find is just a mile away in Rehoboth - including the incredible Blue Moon and Back Porch restaurants, sushi on the roof at The Cultured Pearl, and the original Dogfish Head brewpub! There are many watering holes like the world-famous Starboard and arguably the best live-music scene of any Atlantic Coast beach town. There are several beach supply shops, a marina where you can rent a boat (can also rent jet-skis at Ruddertowne) or put in your own boat, and just down Rt. 1 is the Old Inlet Bait & Tackle that has absolutely everything for fishing (including a rod/reel repair shop), crabbing and clamming. Whether you love reading on the beach all day or shopping at the tax-free outlets or taking the kids to a water park or spending evenings on the Boardwalk (personally, I've never lost my love of Skee-Ball), or board-sailing the back bay or surfing or skim-boarding the ocean waves, or taking in an incredible live music show at the one & only Bottle & Cork or having crabs outside at Ed's Chicken & Crabs or a truly fine meal following drinks on the roof deck at Two Seas or fishing for that big striped bass from the jetty at Indian River Inlet (or drifting for flounder on the sandy flats of the bay or from the fishing pier in Lewes) or just shelling and enjoying the waves on the beach, it's ALL here within a stone's throw of SeaGarden Cottage!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
SeaGarden Cottage is cozy and comfortable but there's plenty of room so it never feels cramped - a small house that lives big! It has space enough for eight yet is small enough to feel like a private retreat for two. SeaGarden Cottage a true original that has been been lovingly maintained and gracefully updated. At SeaGarden you can park your car and not have to get in it again until you leave (unless you want to, of course). You can walk out the front door in the early morning and stroll down the wide beautiful beach then stop in for breakfast at Sunrise (old-school diner - friendly cheap and plenty) or Sharkey's (breakfast burritos!) or at the Fifer Orchards market down the street (where you can also pick up some gourmet groceries, fresh veggies, fruit or flowers). Walk down to the corner and jump on the open-air Jolly Trolley to do some shopping (and, perhaps, buying) or just check out the Boardwalk. Or walk the other way towards the bay and put your kayak in at the cute little Read St. park while your kids play on shore. We love picking fresh tomatoes and peppers right outside the back door all summer. We love riding our bikes to Fifer Orchards market and into Rehoboth for dinner. We love walking hand-in-hand to take in a free music festival at the Rusty Rudder entertainment complex... and then walking home through the cool ocean breezes late that night. We love the laid-back Dewey Beach attitude - 'It's a way of life!'
